Adult Name Change - Advice or Ideas?

I have always wanted to change my name. [name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Kia[/name_f], and I have always disliked it. Now that I am getting married, I would love to take this chance to change it. I only plan to change it slightly to make it not so complicated.

[name_f]My[/name_f] full name is [name_f]Kia[/name_f] M. [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]. Ideally, I would like to hyphenate it upon marriage. But it is not set in stone just yet.

[name_f]My[/name_f] idea so far are…

  • [name_f]Mia[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Jia[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Kiana[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Katia[/name_f]

I love the idea of [name_f]Mia[/name_f] and [name_f]Jia[/name_f]. I like that they will be a combination of my original first name and my middle name or my maiden name. I also think they sound much nicer than [name_f]Kia[/name_f], all while still feeling like it isn’t too much of a stretch from my original name. In other words, it still feels like me.

[name_f]Kiana[/name_f] and [name_f]Katia[/name_f] are just longer versions of Kia…I like it, but I don’t love it. I feel like it is the safest option, however.

I would love to hear your thoughts, ideas, and advice. I’m a little lost.

Thank you!

I get your dilemma! I have similar feelings about my own name, and if it’s possible when the time comes I’d also like to change it when I get married  So my advice would be: don’t go for the safe choice! This is your opportunity to finally be named something that you love, definitely go for the name that feels the most like “you” rather than the name that you think others would get used to more easily!

I don’t know if you’ve considered it, but another option is to keep [name_f]Kia[/name_f] as a middle name so that the people around you who are too used to it to switch (maybe your close family, for example) can still call you that, and use something that sounds very different as a new first name! [name_m]Just[/name_m] an idea that I thought I’d throw out there.

I personally like [name_f]Jia[/name_f] more than [name_f]Mia[/name_f], but they’re both solid choices, and you can’t go wrong with either one!

I love the name [name_f]Mia[/name_f], very pretty!
Also I like that idea ^ using [name_f]Kia[/name_f] as a middle (but probs not [name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Kia[/name_f] haha)

[name_u]Kit[/name_u] might be cute

Congrats on getting married!

[name_f]Mia[/name_f] feels like a good option! Solid and familiar and still feels like you.

[name_f]Jia[/name_f] feels more unique and distinctive, if that’s something you want, and I like the sound!

You might like [name_f]Gia[/name_f] too?

A few other ideas:

[name_f]Maia[/name_f] / [name_f]Maja[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lia[/name_f]
[name_f]Mira[/name_f]
[name_u]Mina[/name_u]
[name_f]Mila[/name_f]
[name_f]Keira[/name_f]

Maybe more stretchy:

[name_u]Josie[/name_u] (inspired by Jackson)
[name_f]Joanie[/name_f] / [name_u]Joni[/name_u] (inspired by Jackson)
[name_f]Jillian[/name_f] nn [name_f]Jia[/name_f]? (and inspired by Jackson)
[name_f]Milena[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mia[/name_f]
[name_f]Jeanna[/name_f] (like [name_f]Jia[/name_f], but also, a feminine name based on Jackson?)

seconding what [name_f]Maya[/name_f] said here! :purple_heart:

[name_f]Jia[/name_f] is my favorite from your list! I find it simple and elegant looking as well as sounding.

a few other suggestions based similarities to your current name

[name_f]Kaia[/name_f]
[name_f]Kyla[/name_f]

[name_f]Pia[/name_f]
[name_f]Gia[/name_f]
[name_f]Via[/name_f]
[name_f]Cia[/name_f]

[name_f]Gaia[/name_f]
[name_f]Fabia[/name_f]
[name_f]Rhea[/name_f]
[name_u]Ilia[/name_u]

Best of luck with this decision!

How about [name_f]Kira[/name_f]? (Keer-uh)
Alternatively could be spelt [name_f]Kiera[/name_f], [name_f]Keira[/name_f], [name_f]Kirra[/name_f], or [name_f]Ciara[/name_f].
I also love the suggestion of [name_f]Gia[/name_f] as another spelling of [name_f]Jia[/name_f], or [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] “Jia” as @Greyblue suggested - even though for me nothing beats [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] “Jill” You could also do [name_f]Julia[/name_f] “Jia” which feels a bit more intuitive personally. Something like [name_f]Gianna[/name_f] or [name_f]Giada[/name_f] “Gia” would also be nice.
To build on [name_f]Mia[/name_f], you could also do [name_f]Mila[/name_f], [name_f]Bea[/name_f] (Bee or Bee-uh, potentially short for Beatrice), or even [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] “Mia”!
Good luck on finding something you love!

[name_f]Mia[/name_f] is lovely. [name_m]Just[/name_m] ignore anyone who says it stands for missing in action because this was never my first thought until I read about it.

It makes sense since [name_f]Kia[/name_f] is the name of a car brand (The same reason some people find [name_f]Mercedes[/name_f] unusable).

[name_f]Kiana[/name_f] is lovely (despite [name_f]Kia[/name_f] becoming a potential nickname), however, I would 100% recommend changing your name to something you love rather than like.

I like both [name_f]Mia[/name_f] and [name_f]Jia[/name_f] for you!

I also thought of [name_f]Maja[/name_f] to honour your middle & maiden names.
