My husband and I are starting to seriously plan for a baby. Obviously I’m not pregnant yet, but I love names & thinking about them
My husband sometimes thinks my name ideas are crazy but I’ll give you a general idea of what I like.
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]
[name_u]Delaney[/name_u]
[name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] (ay-da - one of my fears with this is that people wouldn’t pronounce it that way & the other is that the child is going to have a life of correcting [name_f]Ava[/name_f] to [name_f]Ada[/name_f])
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] (I wish it weren’t so popular)
I work in a school so generally don’t like names with unusual spellings that you look at and don’t know how to pronounce. I would love to stay away from super popular names. We have a 3 syllable last name starting with L and ending with -an. Middle names will likely be either [name_f]Jayne[/name_f] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] since they are both family names.
Let me hear your ideas!
Edited to add - we have a dog named [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Nora[/name_f]) so that is out
Boy names I like include:
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] (actually my husband’s suggestion)
I love that you have a dog named [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]! That’s one of my top favorite names. I have a dog named [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], so I’m a big fan of smart feminine classy human names for dogs. :).
Anyway, onto names for a new baby!
Here are my thoughts on what you’ve got so far:
Girls-
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]-I kind of want to like this, but it just seems sort of trying too hard. Like something a celebratory would name their kid.
[name_u]Delaney[/name_u]-This is not my personal style, but I see the appeal. It has a pretty sound. Maybe a bit cutesy, but not bad.
[name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]-I don’t see the appeal of this one. It just doesn’t have a pretty sound to me.
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] -I think that this is simple and well known enough, that pronunciation shouldn’t be an issue. It’s actually getting a bit common, but is a very sweet old fashioned classic. I like it a lot!
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] (I wish it weren’t so popular)-Another nice smart classic, but it is way popular.
A few ideas:
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Holly[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Sparrow[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f]
[name_u]Vida[/name_u]
[name_f]Zella[/name_f]
Boys-
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] (actually my husband’s suggestion)-I love this! I have a nephew named this. It’s such a cool, strong yet soft at the same time, handsome name. He’s called [name_u]Shay[/name_u] most of the time, but I like both. [name_m]Just[/name_m] in case you don’t like [name_u]Shay[/name_u]/[name_u]Shea[/name_u], that’s something to consider.
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m]-I don’t know why I don’t care for this. It’s just too gruff sounding. Maybe that’s because griff and gruff look alike.
[name_m]Adler[/name_m]-This is kind of cute & different. Not my favorite, but interesting choice.
[name_m]Wesley[/name_m]-This is charming. The nn [name_m]Wes[/name_m] has a cool fresh sound.
If [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] is to common for you, my favorite of your options are [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]. Some other ideas:
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Mallory[/name_f]
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
[name_f]May[/name_f] / [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Macy[/name_f]
[name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]
Thanks for the input! I’m liking [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], and [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]. I have always liked [name_f]Margot[/name_f] but my husband doesn’t. I really like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] but there is already one in the family ”
@michellem We love [name_u]Shea[/name_u]/[name_u]Shay[/name_u] as a nn for [name_m]Seamus[/name_m]! For some reason we are much more aligned on boy names than girl names.
@hannahtruly we definitely have similar tastes in names! Thanks for your suggestions - I’ll definitely take some of these to my husband!
[name_u]Wyn[/name_u]/[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Bronwyn[/name_f] or Elowyn with [name_u]Wyn[/name_u]/[name_f]Wynnie[/name_f] as nn, but I don’t think they sound good with our last name I never considered it as a stand alone name.
I also love [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_u]Ren[/name_u]/[name_u]Wren[/name_u]. My husband LOVES [name_u]Clare[/name_u], which I like but don’t love. [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is definitely one I need to keep thinking about.
[name_u]Parker[/name_u] & [name_u]Shiloh[/name_u] are both names I love for girls but my husband doesn’t ” I love [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] and [name_m]Miles[/name_m] for boys, but probably not as much as [name_m]Seamus[/name_m].
I’m in a similar boat to you me & my partner are TTC currently as a result I’ve become even more obsessed with names! Girl names are the hardest for sure whereas for boys we’re sorted.
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] - I love this name I think it’s gorgeous & fresh sounding. I like [name_u]Marley[/name_u] as a nickname and I think teamed with something like a [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] it would be so effortless. My partner cannot get on board & thinks it’s weird
Suggestions that seem similar to me…
[name_u]Winslow[/name_u] [name_f]Jayne[/name_f]
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Harlow[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_u]Delaney[/name_u] - not my cup of tea despite the southern vibe that I normally love
Suggestions that seem similar to me…
[name_u]Riley[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_u]Penny[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] [name_f]Jayne[/name_f]
[name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] - I just think of [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] a chef in the UK also I don’t like the ains part of the name
Suggestions that seem similar to me…
[name_u]Kingsley[/name_u] [name_f]Jayne[/name_f]
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_u]Ellery[/name_u] [name_f]Jayne[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] - this name has risen in popularity because of the popular TV Show Peaky Blinders therefore I don’t think anyone would struggle with pronunciation. It’s a cute vintage choice.
Suggestions that seem similar to me…
[name_f]Polly[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Alba[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Jayne[/name_f]
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] - this is a classic that I’ve never been fond of personally but can see the appeal. I actually don’t think it’s that popular anymore I haven’t met a baby [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] in years!
Suggestions that seem similar to me…
[name_f]Rachel[/name_f] [name_f]Jayne[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Jayne[/name_f]
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
I really love [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]: it has a very intelligent vibe to it for me, perhaps because of the literary associations (poet [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]; the character from Heart of Darkness). [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is lovely too. [name_m]How[/name_m] about:
I am loving [name_u]Winslow[/name_u]! I also really like [name_f]Alba[/name_f] as an alternative to [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is nice, although I prefer [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] so we have the nn [name_f]Bre[/name_f] if we want.
I also love [name_f]Marli[/name_f]/[name_u]Marley[/name_u] or [name_u]Mo[/name_u] as nn for [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]. I really think I need to convince my husband on this name haha.
Based on the names you like I’ll suggest [name_f]Amerie[/name_f] [name_f]Jayne[/name_f] or [name_f]Alessia[/name_f] [name_f]Jayne[/name_f] for a boy [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] seems really cute.
