Adventurous little Rowan?? Sibling to Lachlan.

[name]Hi[/name] all, thanks for helping out with your opinion. I’ve posted a while ago regarding our sibling name choices and husband and I have decided we both like [name]Rowan[/name]. Younger brother to [name]Lachlan[/name] and son of [name]Brennan[/name]. I’m not 100% sure on our choice, what do you think? A lot of people suggested [name]Callum[/name] in an earlier forum, however, we are not of complete Irish decent, don’t look anything Irish, and live on a Polynesian island in the South [name]Pacific[/name]. There is no real strong connection to [name]Ireland[/name] so I feel like three boys named [name]Brennan[/name], [name]Lachlan[/name], and [name]Callum[/name] in the house sound like we should be over in [name]Ireland[/name]. [name]Lachlan[/name] was named after friend from Australia. [name]Rowan[/name] seemed to keep with the sound of the other two guys in the family, without being overwhelmingly Gaelic sounding, just connecting the -an at the end of the name. What do you think? [name]Do[/name] you have any more suggestions?

A little help with our personal style/preferences: We are a very adventurous family, travel often, and spend most of our days in the ocean or the mountains. I don’t love hippie sounding names, though most people would call us hippies. haha. I prefer solid sounding masculine names that have a worldy feel to them. We selected [name]Lachlan[/name] from travels to Australia and hearing the popularity there, but not on our island. [name]Brennan[/name] was a name from his father’s favorite adventure novel.

His middle name will be Polynesian.

Thank you kindly.

I like [name]Rowan[/name], but I prefer it on a girl. But its still a great name. I’m not sure how it will flow with a Polynesian middle name, but if you like it go for it! Here are a few suggestions to go with [name]Lachlan[/name] if you decide to not go with [name]Rowan[/name]…

[name]Blakely[/name]
[name]Breccan[/name]
[name]Ronan[/name]
[name]Soren[/name]
[name]Tristan[/name]
[name]Hunter[/name]
[name]Dorian[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Talon[/name]

But I do like [name]Rowan[/name] a lot, I just think its getting very popular with girls.

I agree with bamms in recent years [name]Rowan[/name] has become the domain of the girls, unfortunate since we grew to love [name]Rowan[/name] Atkinson amongst others.

I don’t think it matters whether you live in [name]Ireland[/name] or not I think [name]Lachlan[/name] and [name]Callum[/name] would have made ideal siblings. Btw I am an Aussie and I love [name]Lachlan[/name] a lot.

If you want an alternative perhaps these will suit you?

I really like [name]Rowan[/name], and I know a few males with that name as well. I also like the suggestion of [name]Ronan[/name] .

I love this! Two of my co-workers have sons similar in age and they are named [name]Lachlan[/name] and [name]Rowan[/name]! I think the names go really well together! Great choice! Nothing new to suggest.

I tend to agree that [name]Rowan[/name] often reads like a girl these days. I do like it but it is also quite a bit more popular than [name]Lachlan[/name] and in my opinion, not as special. I really love [name]Lachlan[/name]. You wouldn’t go wrong using it, I just wonder if you can’t do better. It is so masculine, it would be nice to match that feeling. To me, [name]Callum[/name] is also a bit too popular with [name]Lachlan[/name] and not as special (although less so than [name]Rowan[/name]). I like the suggestion of [name]Hugo[/name], quite a bit. I would be tempted by [name]Hugo[/name] or something like:
[name]Hamish[/name]
[name]Diarmid[/name]
[name]Clarke[/name]
[name]Do[/name] you have another person like the original Lachlin you might like to honour?

I love [name]Rowan[/name] for a boy and I think it sounds great with your other names. However, I don’t think it sounds significantly less “Irish” than [name]Callum[/name]. It sounds very…UK to me, so I’d lump [name]Callum[/name] and [name]Rowan[/name] in the same group.

I love [name]Rowan[/name], and actually secretly prefer it on a boy! I think it goes great with your boys names! Best of luck to you and your family!

[name]Rowan[/name] is great for a boy! I don’t know why people insist on shoving it over to the girls’ side; it’s one of few truly unisex names out there. [name]Lachlan[/name] and [name]Rowan[/name] are excellent as brothers.

[name]Lachlan[/name] & [name]Rowan[/name] sound great together
[name]Rowan[/name] is very unattractive on a girl so the more boy Rowans the better

I’ve heard [name]Roan[/name] (single syllable), so that might be an alternative to [name]Rowan[/name]–although I’ve never known a female [name]Rowan[/name], so its all male to me!

[name]Rowan[/name] is a great choice.

I love [name]Rowan[/name] for a boy. I think it’s truly unisex - it is a tree after all. My only hesitation in your case would be the three N-endings, but that’s obviously part of the appeal for you.

Berries, what IS it about N-endings that we modern-day English-speakers find so appealing? Two out of four of the names in my future-sibset have N-endings. They’re not trendy names, but maybe my ears are drawn to them for that familiar sound? [name]Rowan[/name] is not at all trendy. It’s beautiful and sturdy. I don’t forsee it becoming wildly popular. But perhaps part of its appeal is its similarity to names like [name]Aidan[/name], [name]Owen[/name], [name]Evan[/name]… The N kind of seals a name. It’s soft but emphatic, like a book closed neatly with a thump.

Thanks everyone!!! I think we’ll stick with [name]Rowan[/name], unless something else jumps out at us in the next month! And now on to middle names…hmmmm…we want a one syllable middle name…any ideas?? My [name]Lachlan[/name]'s middle is [name]Finn[/name].
