I would love some advice! I’m trying to decide between [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], and [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]. I want a strong, striking name that’s known, but not too common, and I think those fit the bill (except [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] seems to be more popular than I knew!).
The middle names for all of them will be [name_f]Alice[/name_f], except for with [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. With [name_f]Ada[/name_f], the name will be [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Jeanne[/name_f]. (The A would be in place of honoring my grandma, [name_f]Alice[/name_f].)
I just feel like I’ve lost all perspective on these names. Anybody have a favorite or two?
I love [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]! It’s lovely, international. My favorite bearer of this name is [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] (what a gorgeous combo) of Norway, she’s very kind and smart. I’d say go for [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], for sure.
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] - Shrek.
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] - Images.
Not a fan of [name_f]Ada[/name_f], honestly. Sorry.
I adore [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. I think she is strong, striking, and fierce, while still being melodic.
To counter an earlier poster, I’m 27 so I grew up with Shrek and still don’t associate the name with that character at all. It’s been used for centuries and continues to be used plenty in the British Isles and the US, so that association doesn’t overshadow it in my opinion.
I perfectly undestand your opinion. As for me, I was born in the current centure and the Shrek movies were something really present in my childhood - and, I think, in the childhood of most people in my age. My sister & I were always watching Shrek, and I unfortunately can’t dissociate the name from the character. It’s a bit annoying because [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is a name with a lot of potential!

With [name_f]Ada[/name_f], consider that while it may not be super popular right now by itself, there’s a ton of [name_m]Ad[/name_m]- names for girls that are ([name_f]Adelyn[/name_f]/[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]/[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]/[name_u]Addison[/name_u] and so on), whereas the other three have very unique sounds.
I like [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] the best. I don’t think it’s too, uh, Shrek-y. But its popularity is very regionally dependent, and if you live in the US, you should look up how popular it is in your particular state–in 2017 it was the 57th most popular girls’ name in Massachusetts, and the 73rd most popular in Wisconsin, but it was only the 181st most popular in the whole US.
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is a lot. It’s very fresh-off-the-boat to me. Maybe if you live in Minnesota. [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is foreign but not too foreign, since it’s popular in the UK, and it’s less harsh.
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is the best!
I love nn [name_f]Immy[/name_f] and similarly Inny for [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]. [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] I find a little more harsh, I think I tend to think this with names that include “gr” (e.g. [name_f]Greta[/name_f])but it would be my second choice
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] gets my vote! Personally I don’t find it too harsh. You never know the names people are going to like, as evidenced on this thread, but it really only matters if you and your partner like it. I think it’s beautiful! [name_f]Ada[/name_f] would be my runner up
I may be a tad biased but [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is my favorite of the names on your list! [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] has a nice flow, and being named [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] myself it’s a familiar name that nobody has trouble pronouncing, but still uncommon enough that I’ve never met another [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]. Personally I think [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] has a bit more of an old fashioned sound than I like, but that may just be me and it still works with both the kind of name you’re looking for and the middle name [name_f]Alice[/name_f].
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] are 2 of my favourite names, and I love both with [name_f]Alice[/name_f], so easy favourites for me.
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is my favorite from your list followed by [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. They are both elegant and classic.
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is definitely the most striking and [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is lovely. I also like [name_f]Ada[/name_f]!
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]- is close to [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Addie[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] etc that it feels more popular
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]- it’s fine, I don’t mind the Shrek association but it is fairly common. I feel meh towards it.
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] - is surprisingly underused and outside the top 1000 in the US
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is in the top 1000, but barely. It’s striking and hasn’t caught on like [name_f]Freya[/name_f] has. (I know because [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] were top contenders but we had a boy)
I really like imogen and [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]. I wouldn’t hesitate to use either name.
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is my favorite!! It’s on my short list!
I like but don’t love the others. I think I prefer [name_f]Flora[/name_f] to [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] (I do have a bit of a Shrek association but I’m in the right demographic). I have pronounciation issues with [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is cute but [name_f]Addie[/name_f] is soo popular as a nn that it could get mixed in.
