Advice on naming our twins girls!

My friend told me about this website, saying I just had to get your advice. So here I am!
My husband, [name]John[/name], and I already have three children, and I’m due in [name]January[/name] with twins!
Our kids are:
[name]Abigail[/name] [name]Olivia[/name] (3 1/2)
[name]Lucas[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] (3 1/2 - [name]Abby[/name]'s twin)
[name]Jack[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] (17 months)

We’re having 2 girls and need help picking their names. We like classic and vintage names, and aren’t worried about popularity.

We would love your advice and suggestions.
Here are some names we like:

Thank you,

I forgot to mention it, but our last name is [name]Ryan[/name].

[name]Hi[/name], [name]Casey[/name]!

Wow, two sets of twins? Congratulations! I’m an identical twin, too…

Anyway, [name]Abigail[/name], [name]Lucas[/name], and [name]Jack[/name] are great names. As for the girls’ names, I personally wouldn’t re-use initials. My favorites off of your list are [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Elinor[/name], and [name]Elizabeth[/name]. Would you do [name]Eliza[/name]? I think that is one step above [name]Elizabeth[/name], in my personal opinion, but both are great. I’d recommend [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Eliza[/name] in a heartbeat, even if they are very ‘Pride and Prejudice’ - they’re great! I really like [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Katherine[/name] and [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Margaret[/name].

Other names you might like with [name]Abigail[/name], [name]Lucas[/name], and [name]Jack[/name] are:

[name]Julia[/name] - Middle name?
[name]Lillian[/name] - Middle name?

I really like [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Ryan[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Frances[/name] [name]Ryan[/name]…

[name]Lemon[/name]

[name]Hi[/name]! Congrats on your second set of twins! I love the names of your children, and I love your list of potential names! My favorites are:

[name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] (I like [name]Lemon[/name]'s suggestion of [name]Eliza[/name], also.)
[name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Katherine[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Katherine[/name]

Beautiful, classic names!

I love [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Elinor[/name], [name]Elinor[/name] and [name]Georgia[/name], or [name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] to pair with your children.

Congrats on the twins! Your children have beatiful names.

All of the names one your list are lovely so you really cant go wrong with any of them. Here are some pairing that I think would sound nice:
[name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Elinor[/name] and [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Alice[/name] and [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Katherine[/name]

Thanks for all of the input!!!

[name]Lemon[/name]- We’re still in shock! My husband has a twin sister, and I have twin brothers, so it’s relatively common in both of our families. But, we still couldn’t believe it! Now I feel bad for little [name]Jack[/name], all alone in the middle. :frowning:

Sadly, we have eliminated [name]Elinor[/name] from our list. I love the name, but my [name]SIL[/name] just announced that she’s naming her daughter Elinora [name]Rose[/name] nn [name]Nora[/name]. But, we have lots of other great options.

We’ve also decided to eliminate all A and J names to avoid using the same initial twice. We’d still consider them for middles though.

Suggested names we like:
[name]Eliza[/name] - I like the name, but have bad associations with it. :frowning:
[name]Emmeline[/name] - I like this, but I have a niece named [name]Emily[/name]. That’s too close for us.
[name]Julia[/name]- my [name]SIL[/name]'s (DH’s twin) name
[name]Matilda[/name] - adorable, but still a little out there
[name]Ramona[/name] - same as above
[name]Frances[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it! But DH says it’s too out there. We like to stay in our comfort zone, in case you haven’t noticed.
We would use [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Ramona[/name], and or [name]Frances[/name] as middle names, though.

Suggested combos we like:
[name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name] Pride and Prejudice!)
[name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Katherine[/name]
[name]Katherine[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name]

Which do you like the best?
We’d love more suggestions too!

You have a really great list. You have excellent taste. When I thought I might be having girl twins the two I picked were Actually [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name]. They go great together, but I see you eliminated [name]Alice[/name] for a very understandable reason, though I’m also really sad to see [name]Jane[/name] go.

[name]Caroline[/name] - My favorite from your list of course. I love everything about [name]Caroline[/name].
[name]Charlotte[/name] - [name]Charlotte[/name] is also nice. Especially since you don’t seem like the to use [name]Charlie[/name] as a nickname.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] - Great history and a Wealth of nicknames.
[name]Georgia[/name] - A nice name, but I’ve never cared for it. I think of the state. Oddly enough I don’t have that problem for [name]Virginia[/name].
[name]Katherine[/name] - Same response as [name]Elizabeth[/name].
[name]Margaret[/name] -Same as [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Katherine[/name].
[name]Martha[/name] - Hasn’t really warmed up for me. I can only see the old lady-ness of it.

Secretly I’ve always though [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] would make cute twin names. They’re rooted in the same name, but sound completely different. I really like that. I think it’s Carolinus or something similar that was the original name, and [name]Caroline[/name] is the feminine form of that. [name]Charles[/name] is a variation of it, and [name]Charlotte[/name] is the feminine version of it. However since you want to avoid repeat initials you probably won’t like it, although they do not alliterate. Some people might disagree, and I can see why, but I really like them as a twin set.

The others I would pair together are [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Katherine[/name], and [name]Margaret[/name]. Mainly because they all have the same feel to me: Timeless classics with unlimited nicknames. [name]Liz[/name], [name]Lizzy[/name], [name]Beth[/name], [name]Libby[/name], [name]Betty[/name], [name]Betsy[/name], [name]Izzie[/name], [name]Liza[/name], [name]Bette[/name], [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Elsa[/name]. [name]Katie[/name], [name]Kate[/name], [name]Kitty[/name], [name]Kay[/name], [name]Kit[/name], [name]Kat[/name], [name]Kathy[/name], [name]Karen[/name]. [name]Maggie[/name], [name]Margot[/name], [name]Greta[/name], [name]Peggy[/name], [name]Maisie[/name], [name]May[/name], [name]Daisy[/name], [name]Margie[/name], [name]Madge[/name], [name]Rita[/name], [name]Peg[/name], [name]Megan[/name], [name]Meg[/name].

My personal favorites would be:
[name]Betsy[/name], [name]Elsa[/name], [name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Kitty[/name], [name]Kay[/name], [name]Kate[/name]
[name]Greta[/name], [name]Margot[/name], [name]Maggie[/name], [name]May[/name], [name]Maisie[/name], [name]Daisy[/name], [name]Rita[/name]

So you can really shape those three into any kind of feel with nicknames. Also beware that you give your girls room to eventually decide they want different nicknames. I think I prefer [name]Katherine[/name] and [name]Margaret[/name], but [name]Elizabeth[/name] is wonderful as well. [name]Margaret[/name] is probably my favorite of all other than [name]Caroline[/name]. I could seriously have like six daughters with different [name]Margaret[/name] names and still be happy haha.

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] & [name]Caroline[/name] for twins with the older siblings names.

Congrats on the twin girls!

[name]Casey[/name] -
Congrats on your second set of twins! We are expecting our second set in [name]January[/name], too, and they are both girls, too (others are b/g, too!!). My husband and I are at a complete and utter loss as to what names to give our new girls. Thankfully we have until [name]January[/name] if all goes as planned! As for your list:

[name]Eliza[/name]: Part of me likes it, but a bigger part of me thinks it is harsh sounding.
[name]Julia[/name]: This is on my DH’s list. I think it is a lovely name but I don’t like it enough to pull the trigger and use it for one of our girls.
[name]Matilda[/name]: I think it is a cute name with cute nn possibilities. It might be a little out there (I know my husband would exercise veto power over it).
[name]Ramona[/name]: I think this falls with [name]Eliza[/name] - sounds too harsh for a little girl (other than [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Quimby[/name]).
[name]Frances[/name]: [name]LOVE[/name] IT. This is my daughter’s name - it was my dad’s name and is my mom’s middle name, so we gave it to our daughter. Can’t imagine her being anything other than a [name]Frances[/name]. If you are uncomfortable with it as a first name, it would make a great middle name (but not with [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Georgia[/name] as first names, [name]IMO[/name]).

From your selected combos, I’m partial to the first three: [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Georgia[/name] (a fine, fine name!!), and [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name]. If you went with [name]Katherine[/name], would you call her [name]Kate[/name], [name]Kit[/name], etc., or stick with [name]Katherine[/name]?

I wish I had more suggestions to add to your list, but as I said above, we are pretty much bankrupt in the girl-names department.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the feeback!

After lots of deliberating, we’ve narrowed it down to 4 names.

[name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name]

We’d love it if you would rate them, or tell us your favorite and least favorite. [name]Feel[/name] free to explain.

Are [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] too matchy?
Are [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Georgia[/name] too themey? [name]Both[/name] states (well, [name]Carolina[/name]). My husband loves this because two of his favorite songs are Sweet [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Georgia[/name] on My Mind.

My least favorite is [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name]. I honestly love both [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name], but I really, really dislike matchy names for twins. I was so lucky that my mom didn’t listen to my grandmother when deciding on names for my twin sister, [name]Sarah[/name], and I - I would’ve been [name]Cara[/name]! Ugh. Anyway, not only do [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] start with the same letter, they have the same meaning and are derived from the same name. It’s a naming no-no, I’d say, even though they sound different.

[name]Georgia[/name], to me, feels older or more vintage than your other kids’ names. You’ve got [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Jack[/name], but who is [name]Abigail[/name]'s twin, again? I want to say [name]Lucas[/name]. Is that right? Oh, well, whatever. Anyway, those are all relatively popular names that are classic and elegant and so sweet. Despite the fact that they are timeless, they do have a fun, young feel to them. [name]Georgia[/name], to me, is more old-school vintage, so it doesn’t seem to flow as well with the other names. That, and I’m a sucker for anything with literary ties, and ‘Pride and Prejudice’ is a personal favorite. So, my pick is, without a doubt, [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name]! What would you use for nicknames, if anything? [name]Lottie[/name] and [name]Ella[/name]? [name]Charlie[/name] and [name]Libby[/name]? [name]Lottie[/name] and [name]Lizzie[/name]? So many great options…

[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Ryan[/name] sounds pretty cute, right? Actually, I’d use a one- or three-syllable middle name to balance the flow - [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Ryan[/name] or [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Ryan[/name], maybe? I’m trying to find a way to work ‘Sweet [name]Caroline[/name]’ in there without using [name]Caroline[/name], even though [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] is lovely. I’m not sure about that with a sister named [name]Charlotte[/name], and I’m not thrilled with the sound of [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Ryan[/name], to be honest. Hm. [name]Neil[/name] [name]Diamond[/name]. [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Nell[/name] [name]Ryan[/name]? [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Diana[/name] [name]Ryan[/name]? I love that. Oh, maybe [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Diana[/name] [name]Ryan[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Ryan[/name] sound better, though…

[name]Lemon[/name]

[name]EDIT[/name] I also like [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] for the girls, but I think it would be nice for [name]Lucas[/name] and [name]Jack[/name] to get a shorter name in there like [name]Charlotte[/name]. [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Matilda[/name] is gorgeous, as is [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Frances[/name]. [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Frances[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Ramona[/name] are pretty, too! Oh, and [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Frances[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Georgia[/name]!

I love [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name], but I already mentioned why. If I had to make a pair using [name]Georgia[/name] I think [name]Charlotte[/name] goes the best with it. Best pairing with [name]Elizabeth[/name] would probably be [name]Caroline[/name].

The best pairing for me is [name]Charlotte[/name] & [name]Elizabeth[/name] for your twins (aka [name]Lottie[/name] and [name]Libby[/name]). Although I love [name]Caroline[/name], I’ve always felt it was best to have twin names beginning with different letters. I like [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Frances[/name] [name]Ryan[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Ryan[/name]. Best wishes!

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Casey[/name]! My favorites from your list ~

  1. [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] – I do have some concerns, however, that both names derive from [name]Charles[/name]. [name]Even[/name] though [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] are 2 of my favorite girl’s names, they may be too matchy!
  2. [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] – 2 classics, but [name]Charlotte[/name] is a softer sounding name than [name]Elizabeth[/name].
  3. [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] – 2 classic names that will never go out of style!

I vote for [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name].
[name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] are great too, but I think [name]Charlotte[/name] is a bit more fun and youthful. To me, it matches with [name]Abigail[/name] better.

Thank you for your advice. It’s really helping!

We’ve narrowed it down to two combinations!
[name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name]

Which one sounds better with [name]Abigial[/name], [name]Lucas[/name], and [name]Jack[/name]?

We love the name [name]Georgia[/name], but agree that is doesn’t really match our other children’s names. We’re hoping to use it for a middle though. I love the suggestion of [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Georgia[/name]!

  1. Which combo do you prefer?
  2. What do you think of [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Georgia[/name]?
  3. What middle name would you pair with [name]Charlotte[/name]? We want a three syllable name.

We really appreciate your advice.

I think both sets would be wonderful with [name]Abigail[/name], [name]Lucas[/name], and [name]Jack[/name], and I love [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] equally. I’ll vote for [name]Caroline[/name], though, since it has a bit of a more classic feel to go with [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name]. [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] is lovely! Middles for [name]Charlotte[/name]:

[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Rosalind[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Helena[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Sylvia[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Bianca[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name]

[name]Do[/name] you need middle name suggestions for [name]Caroline[/name], too?

[name]Charlotte[/name]. I just like the youthful, playful, almost whimsical vibe that [name]Charlotte[/name] has, and it seems to bridge the gap between [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] very, very well. I love [name]Abigail[/name], [name]Lucas[/name], [name]Jack[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], and [name]Charlotte[/name] - perfection!

Oh, [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] is lovely. It’s great and spunky and unexpected. For [name]Charlotte[/name], you mentioned a three-syllable middle name, and I agree:

[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Diana[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Francesca[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Gwendolyn[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Helena[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Isabel[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Julia[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Katherine[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Rosemary[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Tallulah[/name]

[name]Favorite[/name]? [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Matilda[/name].

[name]Lemon[/name]

I love [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] together, especially with your other kid’s names. The flow is great and the names compliment each other. [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] is great, as [name]Lemon[/name] already said.

Some other middle name ideas…
[name]Charlotte Adora
Charlotte Penelope
Charlotte Ines[/name]

Good luck and congrats!

(Sorry this is all i have time for)

[name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name]

My favorite of your combos is [name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name], with [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Georgia[/name] coming a close second. I think the fact that the latter mean something special to your husband is really sweet.
