My daughter slept very well for the first few weeks but now she wants to sleep all day and stay up at night. I’ve been home with her for a while so I really didn’t let it bother me that much. I have to go back to work in [name]May[/name] & so it hit me that this isn’t going to keep working. Any suggestions how I can get this reversed? She’s actually sleeping right now and I don’t have the heart to wake her up. I though maybe you guys could give me some advise.
When my twins were about 2 months old I was desperate and I read several books ranging from Ferber to ‘The No-Cry Sleep Solution’ and the suggestions that helped our family the most were from was Healthy Sleep Habits, [name]Happy[/name] Child but Weissbluth. I highly recommend it. Good luck!
I liked the no-cry sleep solution as well, it has lots of things to try and is useful as a troubleshooting tool.
I always tell people about what worked for us because sometimes it helps. My daughter went from being up 2 or 3 times every night (usually for an hour) to sleeping 12 hours every night at 4 months when we did the following:
1-moved her to her own room (she was in a cradle in our room)
2- blackout curtains that literally blocked out all of the light in her room
3- air purifier (or fan, or noise machine), that is loud enough to block out all background noise
turns out she is just a really light sleeper and the combination of normal sounds, being in the room with us and light (even street light from outside our window) was keeping her up. Once she learned to sleep well at night she stopped wanting to catnap all day.
We love the white noise! We actually have a really old ipod and some old ipod speakers that we use to play a loop of it when they sleep. We take them with us when we travel too and have found it really helps them sleep in new places.
Wow, thank you very much for your input! Zealia & [name]Rose[/name] I’ll definately look into the No-Cry Sleep Solution. Thanks so much for the great suggestions. I can’t wait to try them!
The No-Cry Sleep Solution has been a big help! Thanks so much for the information. She’s finally getting regulated to sleeping more hours during the nights. You guys are great!
I’m so glad you found something that is working for your family! If you get stuck again I just remembered that you can actually email [name]Elisabeth[/name] Pantley (sp?) the author of the No Cry Sleep Solution. In desperation, I emailed her a while back and received a response that was pretty tailored to my situation. It was obviously a bit of cut and paste but it was all very relevant and helpful. It could very well be a member of her staff, but in either case it felt great to be heard and to get advice specific to my needs.
