Advice?

My husband and I have struggled with infertility for nearly 6 years and we are finally pregnant with our first little one, who we just found out is a girl! We have had a boy name picked out for years and have always joked that because we are so prepared for a boy that we’ll surely have a girl. Now here we are, but we are thrilled!

The name we chose for a boy really means a lot to us – [name_u]Kai[/name_u] [name_m]Jacoby[/name_m]. [name_u]Kai[/name_u] is my husband’s middle name which he has always loved. My [name_f]MIL[/name_f] chose it for him because she knew he’d be her last baby and she wanted something she loved instead of something expected, even if she could only use it as a middle name. [name_m]Jacoby[/name_m] was my Great-Grandfather’s name and he survived the Holocaust and brought my family to the US. He has been honored by multiple family members now but I still love it.

Unfortunately when it comes to girl names we are at a loss. I think we’ve decided on using my grandmother’s name as a middle name which is [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. Because of our struggle with infertility and because we are both 35 this will likely be our one and only baby. We do love the idea of [name_f]Kailee[/name_f], pronounced [name_m]Ky[/name_m]-lee, but we think it loses some meaning without [name_u]Kai[/name_u] in it and [name_f]Kailee[/name_f] seems to be read only as [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f].

We’d love some suggestions of other [name_u]Kai[/name_u] names (if they exist?!) and/or other suggestions that work well for our little girl. Other names we like include [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f], and [name_f]Lena[/name_f].

[name_f]Kaia[/name_f], pronounced [name_u]Kai[/name_u]-uh is beautiful!

[name_f]Kaia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Kaija[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Kaiya[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

[name_f]Kaia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous!

Other ideas ~
[name_f]Kaila[/name_f]
[name_f]Kailani[/name_f]
Kaira
Kairi

Good luck

[name_f]Kaia[/name_f] is really pretty! [name_f]Kaila[/name_f] or [name_f]Kaira[/name_f] work too. You can search names beginning with [name_u]Kai[/name_u] for ideas.
We named our cat Maila (my-la) after a beach in Thailand Lamai with the syllables switched and my family said we should have saved it for a baby name. I was afraid Maila with that spelling would be mispronounced and would need to be spelled [name_f]Myla[/name_f] which lost the meaning. Our cat’s name is always mispronounces at the vet and even by my mother in law. From this experience, I don’t recommend the [name_f]Kailee[/name_f] spelling for [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f] but [name_f]Kailee[/name_f] “[name_m]Ky[/name_m]-lee” is pretty.

Use [name_f]Kylee[/name_f] or [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] for a girl [name_u]Kai[/name_u] sound.

I recently came across the name Achaia, which is pronounced Akaia and I’m sure could be sspelled that way.

[name_f]Kaia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is very pretty!

I think [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] are beautiful. [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] isn’t really my style, but [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is really pretty. However, don’t rule out more children. 35 isn’t old. You may easily become pregnant again. You just never know.

I absolutely agree with the above…

Although not my personal style, [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is lovely!

I live in [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m] City, where 35 is about the youngest a college-educated couple starts having children, and many of us manage to have two or more nonetheless!

I think most names spelled with [name_u]Kai[/name_u]- are going to get a [name_u]Kay[/name_u] pronunciation over a [name_m]Ky[/name_m] pronunciation. I think the suggestion of [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] is lovely and would actually be pronounced correctly more often than not.

My suggestion would be why not just use [name_u]Kai[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] for a girl if you really love [name_u]Kai[/name_u]?

Or what about a name with a similar meaning? [name_u]Kai[/name_u] means “sea” as do these…
[name_f]Maren[/name_f]
[name_f]Marina[/name_f]
[name_f]Moana[/name_f]
[name_f]Nerissa[/name_f]

That way if you do end up getting pregnant with another and its a boy you haven’t used a variation on the name you love!

Congratulations! My husband and I are expecting our first baby after ten years of infertility (we are 33) so I understand the struggle and also the feeling that this very may well be your one and only baby. When you try for years to just get one…believe me, I understand!

We have [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] on our list. I think [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is very beautiful.
We have friends who have a niece named Kaiana, which is also very beautiful and not heard very often. Kaiana [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would be really pretty!

I really like the suggestions of [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Kailani[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I’ll also suggestion [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] as a feminization of [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]/[name_m]Jacoby[/name_m]. [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] [name_f]Kailani[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would be really pretty if you want to squeeze all the honor names in there.
