[name_f]Callaia[/name_f] - When I saw this, I though of the nickname [name_f]Caia[/name_f], which is cute and bypasses the nickname [name_f]Callie[/name_f] if you don’t like it.
[name_f]Romilda[/name_f] - If you like the ‘ilda’ ending, you might like [name_f]Hilda[/name_f], [name_f]Tilda[/name_f], or [name_f]Swanhilda[/name_f] (I kind of like clunky antique names) and it’s worth considering that [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] has the ‘da’ ending, which is similar.
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f] - We recently named our cat [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] - my husband initially liked it more than I did, but this name has grown on me. I love [name_m]Zel[/name_m] and [name_f]Zelie[/name_f] as a nickname ([name_f]Zelie[/name_f] has a very french vibe to me). Some other variations are [name_f]Griselda[/name_f] and [name_f]Selda[/name_f].
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] - This could get you the nickname ‘[name_u]Tavi[/name_u]’ which is similar to another name on your list, [name_f]Tova[/name_f].
Other names I like on your list are [name_f]Cressida[/name_f], [name_f]Tova[/name_f], and Ysella.
Hmmmm, well from your descriptions, it seems like [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] is the only one you seem to really like?
I like [name_f]Verona[/name_f] a lot, as well as [name_f]Calandra[/name_f] ([name_f]Andi[/name_f] or [name_f]Andra[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Callie[/name_f]?) and [name_f]Soraya[/name_f] (I don’t think it sounds like Soiree at all… and I do like some of the others, but let me see if I can give some other options:
Since you like [name_f]Romilda[/name_f], what about [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] or [name_f]Gilda[/name_f]? I personally love [name_f]Hildie[/name_f] as a name, but I also like [name_f]Hilda[/name_f]…
There’s also [name_f]Ramira[/name_f].
Since you like [name_f]Aravis[/name_f] (which is a character in one of my comics, lol) maybe you’ll like: [name_f]Amaris[/name_f], [name_f]Viridis[/name_f], [name_f]Veradis[/name_f], [name_u]Floris[/name_u], [name_f]Meris[/name_f], [name_f]Corliss[/name_f], [name_m]Tallis[/name_m], [name_f]Loris[/name_f], [name_f]Glynnis[/name_f], Lyris, Mirias, or of course, [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] or [name_f]Maris[/name_f]?
Since you like [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f], there’s Zurina or my fave, [name_f]Zulima[/name_f]. I do like [name_f]Zuleika[/name_f] too, it’s beautiful, but I have a pen pal by this name who lives in the Middle [name_f]East[/name_f] and she said everyone, even there, calls her Zoo-lee-kuh instead of Zoo-lay-kuh…
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] as well as [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]? Because there’s a lot more names to get [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]: [name_f]Florette[/name_f], [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f], [name_f]Colette[/name_f], [name_f]Jolette[/name_f], [name_f]Paulette[/name_f], [name_f]Letitia[/name_f] and Letya as well as [name_f]Odelette[/name_f] (on our own list, though no one seems to like it on here). [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] with [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] as a nn could work.
I’ll see if I can brainstorm more for later, but this is what I’ve got for now…:). [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t stress too much about it, you’ll find another gem of a name for sure.
Hello, congrats on number 7! Sorry to hear you’re struggling so much with a name for her, but I’m sure you’ll get there, all your other children have lovely names. From your new considerations, I think [name_f]Kerensa[/name_f] stands out as a great option because it bridges the range of classic to unusual that I would use to describe your daughters’ names. That said, it sounds like you’re not over the moon about [name_f]Kerensa[/name_f]. [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is a great name, but you don’t seem dazzled. So my first thought is, what name could you give this girl that your husband could call her [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] as a nickname? This is what I came up with.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - It’s pretty popular compared to some of your other choices, but I think a decadent middle name of your choosing could make nn [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] more plausible and make the name as a whole more fanciful - a la [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] “[name_f]Zelda[/name_f]”
[name_f]Giselle[/name_f] - Really a straight shot to [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], but pretty similar to your last daughter’s name. Regardless, the same scenario could apply as with [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - [name_f]Giselle[/name_f] [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] or something or something along those lines could be [name_f]Zelda[/name_f].
Other than that, I would say steer clear of [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] if you’re not crazy about it. Some other suggestions (having only skimmed the other threads, so I’m sorry if you’ve already discussed them/said you don’t like them) would be [name_f]Lumina[/name_f]/[name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f], [name_f]Blythe[/name_f], [name_f]Clover[/name_f], [name_f]Cosima[/name_f], [name_f]Laelia[/name_f], [name_f]Valencia[/name_f], [name_f]Francisca[/name_f], and and [name_f]Delphine[/name_f].
I look forward to seeing how the naming process plays out for you! Also, I want to add that [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] is pretty awesome, so if you’re leaning in that direction, embrace it!
I like the musical/opera/artistic name inspiration: so…
[name_f]Tosca[/name_f]
Laramoor
[name_f]Aida[/name_f]
[name_f]Cosette[/name_f] (victor hugo, les mis etc…) (zetta is a cute
[name_f]Carmina[/name_f] (carmina burana - epic! masterful! gorgeous!)
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] (Schumann, nutcracker)
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f] ([name_m]Wagner[/name_m]'s wife; I like how it references the cosmos…holst’s the planets is gorgeous)
Satie (after [name_m]Eric[/name_m]…a gp of mine)
Casilda - not musical, but I believe it means castle, and it sounds medieval, and seems straight-forward yet romantic.
Brynja - not a musical name, either, but a super Icelandic, cool name with lots of charm [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
[name_f]Amadea[/name_f] - a pretty choice, imo.
Elysium - referenced in [name_f]Ode[/name_f] to [name_f]Joy[/name_f].
[name_u]Nairne[/name_u] - a Scottish name, kind of like narnia. I like nairne - it’s fun and zippy and cute!
Elska - Norwegian word for love.
Corinthea - I like how this is so many things; a type of architecture; a smooshed name; a bible reference (Corinthians) etc…
[name_u]Willoughby[/name_u] - just fun. and literary. And romantic and willlowy.
[name_f]Susannah/Shoshana/Shenandoah[/name_f] - oh! (Hee hee). I actually think this is sweet
in your set, and the nn zuzu is perfect.
I think you are like me in that you weigh all angles of a name…but one thing I do think after naming kids and then having them grow up is that really any name can be stunning. And every name has something wrong with it. So maybe just focus on what names make you happy…or more happy than most!
Also, Fwiw of your new suggestions my fav is [name_f]Karenza[/name_f]…I love that name. And most young people have NO idea what a credenza is, certainly not kids. [name_u]Wren[/name_u] is a cute nn, too. I think it’s great! I am also firmly in the [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] is great camp, too. Good luck!
@saracita00, your list is spectacular and you and your husband sound funny as hell, my kind of people!
I haven’t much to add but that I think [name_f]Zuleika[/name_f] is wonderful and perfectly usable even for people outside of the heritage. It’s considered one of those rare, obscure and literary names and upon research (It’s on my list as well) I found quite a few [name_f]Zuleika[/name_f]/Zuleicas across the globe. It’s not a name with big religion ties (not at all that I can think of) so it’s perfectly fine for a family of non-Arabs to use it because even among Arabs themselves it’s pretty obscure. And it also lends to [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] which you already said you loved. I think [name_f]Soraya[/name_f] would be more off-limits than [name_f]Zuleika[/name_f].
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f] - not once did I think of the car company upon reading this or anything other than the island from the Arthurian legends that I’ve always wanted to visit with my friend [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] [name_m]Le[/name_m] [name_f]Fay[/name_f] I absolutely adore this name, think it has a beautiful imagery and sound while still being seldom used as a name.
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] - No, I don’t think this would be confused with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. It would probably work in your favor though as more people will be able to recognize it. I really appreciate the association of the fantastic actress [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] who in recent years has given the name more recognition and has made it feel more usable while it continues to be strong, feminine, remarkable, historical and just about awesome. I wouldn’t concentrate too much on the numeral thing because that’ll go unnoticed by most mere mortals. Odds are they’ll think A: parents’ lucky number, B: Like the first emperor of [name_m]Rome[/name_m]? or C: Musical Octaves for those who are musicians, and maybe D: Sounds a bit like [name_f]October[/name_f] - cool, Halloween!
I’m not a fan of: [name_f]Kerensa[/name_f] Credenza, [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] (seems very uptight British with a stuffy nose and painted eyebrows), [name_f]Romilda[/name_f] (a bit dull actually) and not a fan of the [name_u]Cal[/name_u]- names especially if you’re not at all into [name_f]Callie[/name_f].
Some ideas based on [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f]: [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] or [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] (a bit mainstream for your tastes but the nickname gifts it pizzazz), Lazuli and [name_f]Zephyrine[/name_f].
Other names I immediately thought of suggesting to you:
[name_f]Liselotte[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]

[name_f]Mathilde[/name_f]
[name_f]Winola[/name_f]
Hopefully you’ll like some of these
[name_f]Anatolia[/name_f] - don’t love the sound, maybe too close to “anatomical”? I’ll suggest [name_f]Antonina[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nina[/name_f] (I think you are into music, Dvorak connection? and I love [name_f]Nina[/name_f]), [name_f]Antonia[/name_f], [name_f]Antonella[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Nell[/name_f] would be cute too), [name_f]Tullia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aravis[/name_f] - [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like the sound personally.
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f] - I like it. I didn’t think of the car but that is a negative. Maybe [name_f]Alondra[/name_f], [name_f]Ilana[/name_f], or [name_f]Apollonia[/name_f]?
[name_f]Calandra[/name_f] - Could use [name_f]Lana[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Callie[/name_f]. Not my favorite but it’s OK. A little close to colander I guess.
[name_f]Callaia[/name_f] - pretty but wouldn’t know how to pronounce it
[name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] - I like this if you decide to go for it.
[name_f]Juno[/name_f] - I like this too. Similar ideas are [name_f]Junia[/name_f], [name_f]Judith[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Kerensa[/name_f]/[name_f]Kerenza[/name_f] - Not my favorite, maybe [name_f]Keziah[/name_f], [name_f]Cassia[/name_f], [name_f]Carina[/name_f]?
[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] this. Maybe it could work for [name_f]Claudia[/name_f]/[name_f]Clodagh[/name_f]? Or [name_f]Clotilda[/name_f], but that’s a bit much for me.
[name_f]Romilda[/name_f] - love pp’s suggestion of [name_f]Tilda[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Hildie[/name_f].
[name_f]Soraya[/name_f] - I always think of psoriasis. Maybe [name_f]Sarai[/name_f], [name_f]Raisa[/name_f], or [name_f]Tamar[/name_f]?
[name_f]Tova[/name_f] - I like this and think TT is OK.
[name_f]Una[/name_f] - Really like this but prefer [name_f]Oona[/name_f] spelling because of the Spanish word. Also came across [name_f]Nuala[/name_f] (noola) which I like too.
Ysella - maybe [name_f]Gisela[/name_f]? Could use nn [name_f]Zella[/name_f]
[name_f]Zipporah[/name_f] - I like this, not too close to [name_f]Sephora[/name_f].
[name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] - [name_f]Do[/name_f] you not like [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] as a long form?
[name_f]Anatolia[/name_f] - it reminds me of an oil brand I use, I don’t remember the name but it’s pretty close to [name_f]Anatolia[/name_f].
[name_f]Aravis[/name_f] - never heard of [name_f]Avis[/name_f], don’t think it would be a problem tbh.
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f] - the closest I can think of is [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] or Avantika.
[name_f]Calandra[/name_f] - does remind me of colander, I prefer [name_f]Calandria[/name_f], sounds prettier to me. Nn [name_u]Andy[/name_u], [name_f]Lana[/name_f], [name_f]Ria[/name_f]…
[name_f]Callaia[/name_f] - Never heard of this but it’s really pretty, nn [name_f]Caia[/name_f], [name_f]Laia[/name_f] or [name_f]Ally[/name_f]. I’d use the ay sound for [name_f]Laia[/name_f], the eye sound makes it sound like Liar.
[name_f]Cressida[/name_f] - a bit stiff upper lip, don’t love it with the sibset. Reminds me of watercress.
[name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] - you keep coming back to this, it’s very pretty. I don’t think its too out there. Nicknames…maybe [name_u]Ollie[/name_u]?
[name_f]Juno[/name_f] - maybe [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] nn [name_f]Juno[/name_f], or spelt [name_u]Juneau[/name_u], [name_f]Junia[/name_f]. The suggestion of [name_f]Judith[/name_f] was nice.
[name_f]Kerensa[/name_f]/[name_f]Kerenza[/name_f] - even without having the credenza association, the name doesn’t appeal to me. Can’t think of anything similar…Firenza, Kahlen, [name_u]Kalani[/name_u], Florenzia.
[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] - [name_f]Lieselotte[/name_f], [name_f]Lotus[/name_f], [name_f]Carlotta[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], Margoletta, [name_f]Clothilda[/name_f]/[name_f]Clotilda[/name_f], Elotia…those are the only I could think of that might give you [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]. [name_f]Clotilda[/name_f] would give you the ilda ending too.
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] - I’d feel weird giving [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] to a 7th but I think she covers a lot of bases, similarly elaborate like [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f], [name_f]Calandra[/name_f], [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] etc but [name_u]Tavi[/name_u] as a nn is similar to [name_f]Tova[/name_f].
[name_f]Romilda[/name_f] - cute, if not [name_f]Romilda[/name_f], [name_f]Romilly[/name_f], [name_f]Clotilda[/name_f], [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f] (ma-teel-da) or plain [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Swanhilda[/name_f], Bathilda.
[name_f]Soraya[/name_f] - I can’t think of ones similar to [name_f]Soraya[/name_f] but if not [name_f]Soleil[/name_f], maybe [name_f]Solange[/name_f] or [name_f]Solene[/name_f].
[name_f]Una[/name_f] - I just played a round of Uno so I can’t get on board with this one atm. Maybe as a nn for something like [name_f]Eugenia[/name_f].
[name_f]Verona[/name_f] - is this a type of beer? That’s the image that’s coming to mind. It’s okay I just prefer other V names, [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Verity[/name_f] etc
Ysella - not sure what to say, Isella?
[name_f]Zipporah[/name_f] - I met a positively ancient lady with this name and she cackled like a witch, has potential but I think revival needs another 10 years. Maybe Zaafirah?
[name_f]Zoraida[/name_f] - cute, didn’t catch on the [name_m]Don[/name_m] [name_m]Quixote[/name_m] connection with [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f]. [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] could be a cute nickname.
[name_f]Zuleika[/name_f] - no I think it works, the [name_f]Zuleika[/name_f]'s I’ve met are pretty diverse plus [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f].
[name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] - cute, can’t think of any other nicknames save for [name_f]Zuleika[/name_f] and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Oriel[/name_f]- [name_u]Ariel[/name_u]/[name_f]Arielle[/name_f], Eriel, even [name_f]Ariella[/name_f]?
[name_f]India[/name_f]: [name_f]Indira[/name_f] maybe
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f]- [name_f]Zelia[/name_f] is the only one that comes to mind.
Names that occurred to me whilst reading this are [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f], [name_f]Saskia[/name_f], [name_f]Milena[/name_f] and [name_f]Caterine[/name_f].
I’m pretty sure [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] means strong not steadfast but they could easily be each other, who knows, so many name meanings have been changed or lost.
Names meaning strong… [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f] and all variants, [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] (ilda ending plus an honour name), Allonia (similar to [name_f]Anatolia[/name_f]), [name_f]Valerie[/name_f]/[name_f]Valeria[/name_f], [name_f]Megan[/name_f], [name_f]Nina[/name_f].
Very quick thought: If you like [name_f]Verona[/name_f]–as I really do–might you like [name_f]Venetia[/name_f]? In vein of [name_f]Soleil[/name_f], I love [name_f]Soledad[/name_f] although I know the meaning is completely different.
I would hesitate about [name_f]Anatolia[/name_f] because there is so much sadness and strife in that part of the world right now. Good luck!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] many of your options! [name_f]Juno[/name_f] (obviously, though it’s true that lots of people ask if it’s for the film), [name_f]Kerensa[/name_f], [name_f]Tova[/name_f], Ysella and [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] are especial favourites of mine.
Focusing on your “like this but nots”:
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f] - Avonlea, from [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables? It’s not [name_m]Don[/name_m] [name_m]Quixote[/name_m], but it’s a pretty special and beloved book to many people.
[name_f]Juno[/name_f] - [name_u]Hero[/name_u] ([name_u]LOVE[/name_u] this - not a goddess, and Shakespearean), [name_f]Junia[/name_f], [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_f]Djuna[/name_f], [name_u]Caro[/name_u], [name_f]Io[/name_f], [name_u]Echo[/name_u], [name_f]Cleo[/name_f]/[name_f]Clio[/name_f], [name_m]Vero[/name_m]…
[name_f]Soraya[/name_f] - [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f], [name_f]Salome[/name_f], [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], Solveia, [name_f]Shoshana[/name_f]…
[name_f]Tova[/name_f] - [name_f]Leda[/name_f], [name_f]Hera[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Priya[/name_f], [name_u]Ezri[/name_u], [name_f]Lumi[/name_f], Zari, Elska, Runa, [name_f]Yara[/name_f], [name_f]Tempe[/name_f], Tesni, [name_f]Flora[/name_f], Mabli, [name_f]Kira[/name_f], [name_f]Vita[/name_f], [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f], [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f]…
Ysella - [name_f]Zella[/name_f], [name_f]Ismay[/name_f]/Isemay, [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f], [name_f]Azenor[/name_f]…
[name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] is a lovely name and if you love it I would say go for it. Also as well as the game there is [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m] as a name sake for your little one, which gives her a literary connection like her siblings. I also really like [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] nn [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] although I understand if it’s not your style.
Either way you have some lovely choices and you will find the name!
We have been considering [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] for this pregnancy as well. [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]/[name_f]Susana[/name_f]/[name_f]Suzanna[/name_f]/[name_f]Suzanne[/name_f]/[name_f]Suzette[/name_f] all feel too dated for us to personally pull the trigger on them so they keep floating on and off our list, but someone should use them. Perhaps you would be interested in [name_f]Zuzana[/name_f] or [name_f]Azure[/name_f] as a way to get to [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f].
I think there are some good suggestions from pps about getting [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] as a nn vs a given name if you are looking for a different story, although I do love the games.

Some wonderful choices, I really love [name_f]Anatolia[/name_f] and [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] but [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] seems to be the one that checks most boxes for you.

[name_m]Skip[/name_m] Callandra and the like, because she will be called [name_f]Callie[/name_f].
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] or [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] instead of [name_f]India[/name_f]?
I like [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], I think you are the only ones that would think of the 8 association, I don’t think it’s a problem.
If you like [name_f]Verona[/name_f] & [name_f]Viola[/name_f], what about [name_f]Venice[/name_f]?
[name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] could be a nn for pretty much any z name I think… Zaylynn, [name_f]Zahra[/name_f], [name_f]Zariah[/name_f], [name_f]Zarina[/name_f], etc…
I just met a woman named [name_m]Jax[/name_m], I thought it was a great name! Not sure if it’s her full name.
[name_f]Carys[/name_f] is a beautiful name, it means love.
If you want to use a different letter, what about x?
[name_f]Xia[/name_f]? [name_f]Xiomara[/name_f], Xyleena, Xylona?
If the last thread of suggestions didn’t bring anything up that really struck you, I’d forget the “do I like this name enough to use it” stuff and take a different tack. E.g. actively looking for references and/or meanings you like - for example, if you’re into Shakespeare, look up Shakespearean names [like the suggestion of Hero, btw!], or if you’re into TV shows, look up the full names of some characters you really admire. You could maybe pencil in Iolanthe as the middle name and look for a name that you love in the combo, or, better still, just toss all your rules, start with a clean slate, and gradually reintroduce some of them when you feel you’re getting somewhere. It definitely sounds like they’re making it difficult!

PS. I recall thinking that Phaedra [FAY-drah] seemed like a good fit for you - did you not like it / drop it? I can’t remember.
Also, I skipped your list - oops! I really like Avalon, Aravis, Kerensa, and Iolanthe. Iolanthe could work as a FN, but I suspect you’d need a nickname, and with Io off the table and Annie uncertain you’d have limited options. Iola, Lola, and Thea spring to mind.
It seems like the only name you really like is [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f], which is an awesome name, either as a first or a middle name. Some suggestions:

Congratulations! I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling to find a name, though, but I’m sure you’ll get there. You’ll find a name you love! My favourite name from your list is [name_f]Cressida[/name_f]! It’s so beautiful! I also like [name_f]Una[/name_f] and [name_f]Juno[/name_f]. They’re both so sweet! Good luck!
Zosima came to mind - just an idea.
Good luck!
