DH likes [name]Jacob[/name] and the name is actually growing on me. At first I completely discounted it due to it being number one for years. But, the more I compare our lists and try using the names, [name]Jacob[/name] has a nice sound to it. I also think [name]Jacob[/name]/[name]Jake[/name] goes well with our DD [name]Gabrielle[/name]/[name]Gabby[/name].
I knew one [name]Jacob[/name] in high school and one friend of the family named [name]Jacob[/name]. I don’t know any kids with the name. It’s actually number 4 in my state - behind [name]William[/name], [name]Mason[/name], & [name]James[/name] ([name]James[/name] is on our list as well). I feel like I hear many more boys named [name]Aiden[/name], [name]Caden[/name], [name]Jayden[/name], [name]Brayden[/name], [name]Jackson[/name], [name]Braxton[/name], etc.
What do you think? Is [name]Jacob[/name] just TOO popular? [name]How[/name] many Jacobs do you know?
[name]Jacob[/name] isn’t actually as popular as it seems. When you combine spellings, [name]Jacob[/name] is #3 behind [name]Aiden[/name] and [name]Jayden[/name]. I only know a handful of Jacobs myself. It’s a handsome, solid name, hence the reason it is so popular.
I can definitely understand being reluctant to use a name that is so popular, but at the same time [name]Jacob[/name] is a classic/timeless kind of name that you really can’t go wrong with. It’s one of those names that’s not popular because of a modern trend or something, but is popular just because so many people like it and have always liked it. I often put [name]Jacob[/name] in the same mental category as a name like [name]Lucas[/name], both [name]Jacob[/name] and [name]Lucas[/name] are not necessarily names I’d choose myself, but I can definitely understand why people would choose them.
I know a lot of Jacobs. But I too love it, and it is my top boy’s name. Popularity is only important to a point; if it’s really THE name, then who cares how popular it is?
[name]One[/name] of the alternatives I came up with was [name]Jacoby[/name], with the nn [name]Coby[/name]. [name]Just[/name] for a bit of a twist on it if you’re worried about popularity.
do you think [name]Jacob[/name] or [name]James[/name] is a religious name? We are considering [name]James[/name] as well and I am a bit cautious of choosing a religious sounding name.
I’ve never considered either name religious. But, the fact that they are Biblical does appeal to my husband. They’ve both been used a lot through time and have many other associations so I don’t think that people go straight to religion when hearing them.
I know one [name]Jacob[/name] who is about 18, that’s it. I don’t think it’s popular were I live and I have always loved it. [name]Gabrielle[/name] and [name]Jacob[/name] would be a lovely sib-set.
I really don’t know very many Jacobs of any age. I think it may be a regional thing, or maybe the top boy’s names are more evenly divided. There aren’t really many alternate spellings ([name]Jakob[/name] is the only one I’ve actually seen used) so that may be part of it.
Our last name is very common, [name]Wilson[/name]. So, I don’t want his name to just get lost in the mix. Idk. [name]Jacob[/name] is definitely towards the top of the list. Maybe I can find a nice “out of the box” middle. Our current middle choice is [name]Everett[/name] but I don’t really want the initials “JEW”.
I actually love [name]Jake[/name]. Not as crazy about [name]Jacob[/name]. I also don’t find it terribly popular. I hear [name]Aiden[/name] , [name]Caden[/name], [name]Jayden[/name], and [name]Maddox[/name] way more than [name]Jacob[/name]. I also put this one in the classic category. That kind of popularity doesn’t bother me as much.
[name]Jacob[/name] is a name I have been reconsidering too. I guess I don’t mind popularity as much for boy’s names. I have always liked [name]Jake[/name].
I actually only know one boy named [name]Jakob[/name]. He goes by [name]Jakob[/name] and is never called [name]Jake[/name]. He is 9, I think.
I know 2 kids with the name - 1 is 9 years old and goes by [name]Jacob[/name] and has a ‘hard’ last name. The other is 5 and goes by [name]Jake[/name] and has one of the most common last names in the US. [name]Jacob[/name] or [name]Jake[/name] is a great name - I’d go for it!
Thanks ladies! I think I may have come to a decision. I’ve been using the name with DH and DD for the last couple of days and it feels right. I won’t announce until he’s born though because I’m REALLY bad about changing my mind! Friends and family will really be surprised though because of the name’s ranking. Now it’s middle name time!
