Ainsley?

I was wondering if the name [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] sounds pretty for a girl. I love the south and southern names, but is this one a little too outdated?

I think of the male chef, [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] [name_f]Harriott[/name_f]. I can’t see it on a girl. I don’t even like it on a boy. It’s too surnamey for me.

All the Ainsleys I’ve met have been girls so it definitely sounds girly to me. I don’t think it sounds dated either. It seems to fit in well with popular names while still being different. I like it!

This sounds more like a girls name to me, but I don’t have any prior associations with the name. I think it’s beautiful!!

To me [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] is a boys name. However, sound wise it wouldn’t feel odd on a girl.

I’m from the south and I know a lot of little Ainsleys. I don’t think it’s outdated because I only know little girls with the name. I would never use it because it’s comes across a little too cutesy for my personal taste… I also think of [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] on [name_u]West[/name_u] [name_m]Wing[/name_m] who was a smart, southern lawyer for the White House so she makes the name a little more grown up.

It’s a great name. I know one [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u], and it’s a girl. I don’t think it’s dated at all.

I’ve never met anyone named [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]–my first thought is “anally”

Good to know I’m not alone.

Unisex names are much more acceptable in the South. I went to school with an equal number of male and female Danas, Ashleys, Courtneys, Shelbys, Devons, etc.

I’ve never met an [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] but I’ve seen a few on T.V, like on Toddler and Tiaras. I guess its a girls name in the U.S but I really dislike it and I just don’t think its supposed to be a first name. For some reason [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] reminds me of pain like “It pains me”. I much prefer [name_f]Ansley[/name_f] (Anns-lee) because it reminds me less of pain.

It definately sounds more feminine than masculine

Not to be crude, but when I hear [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u], I always immediately think anus. It also has a very trendy/unisex feel that I dislike.

I know an [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] in her 20’s. She’s absolutely brilliant so I guess I have a positive association with the name. I think it’s a very pretty name. It feels very Southern to me. I would not have thought of anus/anally unless someone brought it up.

i also know an [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] in her early 20s & she is very pretty and smart so thats how i see the name. but i think its a name that could be problematic for sure… just asking for teasing!

[name_m]How[/name_m] about Ainslinn pronounced [name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f]?

I have a good friend from high school named [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u], she’s one of the most amazing girls I’ve ever met. I also know another who is also wonderful, and an amazing athlete (she’s actually gotten awards for every sport at my school I think…), and she spells it [name_f]Ainslee[/name_f]. I like it on other people’s children, but I wouldn’t use it for my own. It’s very nice though, and seems like it would suit someone girlier or someone more tomboyish. It’s also only used on boys in Australia (I think) and the UK, but in [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u], it’s all girl- so you shouldn’t have a problem (it’s not in the top 1000 for a boy in the UK though, so even there, it shouldn’t be that bad).

Ainslinn wouldn’t be pronounced as [name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f]. You’re thinking of [name_f]Aisling[/name_f]/[name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] - a classic Irish name. Adding an ‘n’ in the middle of [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] would make in Ains-lyn.

I love [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]! My boss named her oldest daughter [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]. She is now 9 years old – a smart, blond, athletic tomboy who excels at soccer and gymnastics.

The name fits her perfectly. I have never met a male [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u], only females. If you like it, GO FOR IT!

[name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] was one of my favorite characters!

[name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] is a very trendy name for girls, it doesn’t feel dated at all, [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

I don’t like [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]. It’s too much like [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_f]Aisling[/name_f], [name_f]Amy[/name_f], etc. But if you love it, use it.
