What do you think of state names?
I mean using states’ names as child’s name, of course.
I’m not into [name]Alabama[/name], but [name]Arizona[/name] is fun and exotic. [name]Indiana[/name] is pretty too, though it looks so feminine yet [name]Indiana[/name] [name]Jones[/name] makes it masculine so I would be unsure how to use it. I’ve always thought [name]Missouri[/name] would be sweet on a girl, though I’ll never use it myself and have no connection to the state.
I really like [name]Indiana[/name] for a girl, and I think Alaska is pretty cute too. I don’t care for the others, but the ones that have a history as a given name are fine.
I can’t think of any state names that I’d use for people’s names. Hmmm. I’m not entirely against it, though.
I think [name]Alabama[/name] is adorable, actually. [name]Indiana[/name] is sweet too, and [name]Arizona[/name] seems less weird now that [name]Grey[/name]'s Anatomy has Dr. [name]Arizona[/name] [name]Robbins[/name]. Also [name]Virginia[/name] would work, but there are some that definitely wouldn’t. I could see Mississippi working for some daring parent.
And for boys, there’s [name]Tennessee[/name], like [name]Reese[/name] Witherspoon’s little boy!
I like Alaska best. I agree that [name]Arizona[/name] is more accepted because of the [name]Grey[/name]'s Anatomy character, though as far as I recall she is named after a ship rather than the state. I guess some work because they have names in them or already names like [name]Carolina[/name], [name]Virginia[/name] and [name]Georgia[/name]. I think [name]Tennessee[/name], [name]Indiana[/name], [name]Dakota[/name], [name]Alabama[/name] work and are cute. I think Pennsylvania could work, with the nn [name]Penn[/name], and I’ve heard of boys being named [name]Texas[/name] but there are definitely some that just wouldn’t work at all as names.
I like a lot of state names. My favorites are [name]Arizona[/name] (love!), [name]Alabama[/name], [name]Georgia[/name], and [name]Carolina[/name] (okay, the last two were kind of cheating) for girls, and [name]Tennessee[/name] for a boy. I think other state names are usable and some are lovely, but the ones I mentioned are the ones I’d be most likely to use.
I don’t mind them. Granted, some of them don’t make the best names - Connecticut or Wisconsin, for example - but many of them are surprisingly usable.
My sweet four year old wanted to use [name]Indiana[/name] for this baby. We kind of dug it for a little while, but eventually it just started to lose the appeal. [name]Even[/name] my son moved on to loving [name]Annabel[/name] instead. I know people named [name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Virginia[/name] and I don’t mind those names…
I like state names. I would love to name a boy [name]Arizona[/name] as that state holds a special spot in both mine and my husband’s hearts. We both loved living there (we lived in different places, didn’t know each other then). I would love to name a girl [name]Virginia[/name] in honor of my grandmother and call her [name]Ginny[/name] in honor of my sister ([name]Jenny[/name]). Husband doesn’t like state names though.
I love state names! My favorites are [name]Arizona[/name], [name]Atlanta[/name], and [name]Dakota[/name] (all for girls)
I think [name]Nevada[/name] is pretty, and Idaho is beyond adorable. I could also see Iowa being used.
[name]Arizona[/name] is a nice name. For a horse. The horse I had when I was younger was actually named [name]Arizona[/name] but I usually called her [name]Ari[/name] (air-ee).
Beyond [name]Virginia[/name], [name]Georgia[/name], and [name]Carolina[/name], there aren’t any state names that I like.
The only two I like are [name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Carolina[/name]. Maybe [name]Indiana[/name] but that’s more to do with the nn indie than liking the states name.
I personally don’t like place name as names.
My name is [name]Virginia[/name], and the only issue I ever had was when we moved to [name]Virginia[/name] (the jokes got old fast). I do like that i’ve only met a few people with my name and people always know how to spell it.
My favorite state name is Kansas. Being born in Wichita, and having spent ten very interesting months going to a very small-town school (graduating class of 13 people) has given me a fondness for the state and name. I also love the name [name]Prairie[/name], which reminds me of Kansas.
I also favor [name]Arizona[/name], which is the most beautiful state in the country, as far as I’m concerned. I grew up in [name]Prescott[/name] (another great name) near [name]Jerome[/name] and [name]Sedona[/name] in the mountainous north.
I dont live in the USA so they don’t sound so bad to me. I like [name]Alabama[/name] for a girl and I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Phoenix[/name] for a boy.
I think state names are pretty cool.
But i’m not sure [name]Virginia[/name], [name]Carolina[/name], [name]Georgia[/name] or [name]Florida[/name] count, as they were women’s names before they were state names.
Being originally from [name]Tennessee[/name], i could see myself using it as a middle.
Also, SSA #s indicate [name]Missouri[/name] was a somewhat popular name in the late 1800s.
