Alaina or Elena?

[name]Hi[/name] Berries

My best friend is currently pregnant with girl #2 and is looking for a name that will travel well and be easy to pronounce in most languages. She teaches English abroad and needs a name that will work in different countries in Europe as well as back in the States. ( Her first daughter is named [name]Isabella[/name] ).
As of now it looks like [name]Alaina[/name] / [name]Elena[/name] is on top of her short list.
Which of the spellings/ variations do you prefer and why??

I think the spelling [name]Elena[/name] would be the better international traveller. Some languages would pronounce all of the letters in [name]Alaina[/name].

[name]Elena[/name] for sure

Definitely [name]Elena[/name]!

I agree that [name]Elena[/name] works best internationally! Besides, I think it just looks classier and sweeter.

Definitely [name]Elena[/name]. Far classier and sophisticated than [name]Alaina[/name]. [name]Elena[/name] looks much more pleasing to the eye.

I like [name]Alaina[/name] best

I definitely prefer [name]Elena[/name]. It just looks tidier and more sophisticated than [name]Alaina[/name].

The “lain” of [name]Alaina[/name] sticks out negatively to me. It also feels dated in my mind, but the only explanation I can think of is that I knew one as a child, because otherwise it shouldn’t give that impression. I would pronounce it uh-[name]LAY[/name]-nuh.

[name]Elena[/name] would be eh-[name]LAY[/name]-nuh from me.

Definitely [name]Elena[/name]!

I much prefer the [name]Elena[/name] spelling too, it looks neater.

I have a friend who named her daughter this and actually spelled it Alaiyna. It still bothers me.

[name]Elena[/name] for sure!

[name]Elena[/name], classic, prettier, and more international.

[name]Elena[/name] for sure. That is the traditional spelling.
