[name_m]Alaric[/name_m] is a fun name with lots of vowels and some medieval charm! I met one other other day for the first time, but he pronounces it Uh-LAIR-ic. I always pronounced it [name_m]AL[/name_m]-are-ic in my head and my second choice would have been [name_m]Al[/name_m]-ARE-ic, so I was surprised. Are all of them viable options and how would you say it?
I was told it’s pronounced Uh-lar-ick so that’s how I pronounce it. Before I was told that I was pronouncing it [name_m]Al[/name_m]-uh-rick. I’m pretty sure Uh-lar-ick is the correct pronunciation as I’ve heard a couple different people say it that way, it’s just not the first one to come to mind when you read [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]
I was saying it sort of like al-ah-ric. Of those up there, I prefer uh-LAIR-ic but I think they’re all sort of right.
I’ve only ever heard it ah-LAIR-ic. I’m so jealous you met one! I adore [name_m]Alaric[/name_m].
AFAIK, it should be [name_m]AL[/name_m]-uh-rick (as in, my professor of [name_m]Roman[/name_m] history referred to the Visigothic king who sacked [name_m]Rome[/name_m] this way), but i like the way Uh-LAIR-ick sounds better.
At first glance I would pronounce it “uh-LAR-ick.”
I say it al-uh-rik. It’s a very cool name.
I pronounce it uh-lar-ick.
This. Including what I prefer, but also what it really is.
My sister has it on her list, [name_m]AL[/name_m]-uh-rick. I was grumpy she was right.
[name_m]Al[/name_m]-uh-rick at least according to the [name_m]History[/name_m] [name_f]Channel[/name_f]. Its one of my gp names.
I say [name_m]AL[/name_m]-uh-rick
I prefer uh-lair-ic
Thanks everyone for the counsel.
Haha, I know. I have always loved the name in theory, but when he actually told me his name, I had to ask him to repeat himself. I didn’t recognize the name until I saw it written. (He was wearing a nametag). [name_m]Just[/name_m] goes to show that names ARE different online and in the flesh. I still like it, but I don’t prefer his pronunciation.
Isn’t there an [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] or “[name_m]Ric[/name_m]” on Vampire Diaries? I think they pronounce is al-ARE-ick.
I pronounce [name_m]Al[/name_m]-Are-ick, like in [name_m]French[/name_m].
Without looking at any pp: Allah-[name_m]Rick[/name_m]
Yerp, me too. ‘al-a-rick’ (a like cat).
[name_m]AL[/name_m]-ah-rick (first syll. the same as [name_m]Albert[/name_m] or [name_m]Alfred[/name_m])
[name_m]AL[/name_m]-are-ic <3
I love this name and would/do pronounce it
[name_m]Ah[/name_m]-lah-ric. (it sort of sounds like “a lark” with/out the k and with an -ic ending).
