Alaric Matthew Rhys

I’m trying to find a [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] combination that I love more than [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m].

Could you give me your honest opinions on this one please?

Any suggestions are also welcome!

[name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is a very strong combo. I really like [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] also

If [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] is the first name, there’s always the possibility that he’ll get nicknamed [name_m]Al[/name_m], which might be a negative. [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] sounds great with anything, I think! [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] rings well.

I do like [name_m]Timothy[/name_m], but [name_m]Timmy[/name_m] ruins the name for me. I don’t like [name_m]Al[/name_m] that much. I prefer [name_u]Ali[/name_u](pronounced like [name_f]Ally[/name_f]). [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] are for my grandmothers. If they weren’t honor names I would even use them.

I definitely prefer [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] to [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], it has far better flow.

I do really like the name. I think the biggest negative to [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] is that people will likely mishear it as [name_m]Eric[/name_m]. But that’s certainly not a reason to give up a great name.

I love [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] (of course I think almost anything sounds great with [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] in the middle!). I love the [name_u]James[/name_u] part of [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] though. Is [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] too much with the similarity of [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]? Is [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] enough to separate them? [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] or [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] sound good too, but I don’t love [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] nearly as much as a first name.

[name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] wins the debate I just had with myself!

[name_m]Matthew[/name_m] is for my grandmother. I think it’s a nice name, but I wouldn’t use it as a first name. I don’t like it enough to do that.

Are there any other names that could honor your grandmother? I personally wouldn’t use a name that I didn’t really like just because it honors someone. But I like [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]/[name_u]Rhys[/name_u].

Och, I really, really love [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]! So handsome. I have to say, though–even though I like [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] more, I like [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] more as a combo. Are you giving up [name_u]James[/name_u], then? :frowning:

I do like it, but not enough that I would use it if it wasn’t to honor my grandmother. Her name was [name_u]Mattie[/name_u], but with a -ye instead of -ie. Her middle doesn’t transfer to a boys name. Last name is something I’ve thought about, but I don’t like it at all. [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] is the only [name_m]Matt[/name_m]- name I like.

Definitely [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] over [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] - it has a far better flow and [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] sounds like [name_m]Jame[/name_m] Salaric in my foreign mind, lol. However, I do think that [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] might be a good compromise (even though [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] makes a better ending in my mind).

You’re not the first one that has said that. It’s one of the reasons I’ve thought of switching it around, but I don’t love [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] as much as I love [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]. I pause before saying it so I think it makes a slight difference.
