Alba vs. Harriet vs. Jane vs. Beth vs. Milly

These are the 5 names on the shortlist for our third baby. Big siblings are [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] and [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_u]Francis[/name_u]. Which middle name do you like with the first names and which names would you choose. We want to cut the list down to two or three before the baby is born. Our boys list is [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], and [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] [name_u]Tony[/name_u] “[name_u]Kit[/name_u]”.

[name_f]Alba[/name_f] (middle names: [name_f]Clarice[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]): I discovered [name_f]Alba[/name_f] recently, and I love it right now. I love that it’s underused, easy to spell and pronounce, and has historical precedence, but I’m scared that my love for it will be short-lived. Should I go with another long time favorite instead? I also wish it had a nickname.

[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] (middle names: [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Antonia[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Nell[/name_f]): I’ve always liked [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], but now i’m loving it. I love the nickname [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] and I don’t think I’ll stop liking it, but something about it feels wrong. I can’t really picture someone actually named [name_f]Harriet[/name_f].

[name_f]Jane[/name_f] (middle name: [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]): [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is feels a little plain, but I think [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] jazzes it up a little. I’ve always liked it, but it feels like a back-up choice.

[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] “[name_f]Beth[/name_f]” (middle names: [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]): I really hate how [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] is so popular, but it’s a family name and I love the nickname [name_f]Beth[/name_f] (which she would go by exclusively). The S spelling makes it less popular, but I’m just not loving the popularity.

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] “[name_f]Milly[/name_f]” (middle names: [name_f]Lenore[/name_f], [name_f]Mavis[/name_f]): [name_f]Milly[/name_f] is a very sweet name that I love for a young girl, but I don’t love it for a teenager or adult. I figure she’ll grow into it, though.

I like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Mavis[/name_f].

Based on your comments on each one, [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] seems to be the frontrunner - some names cannot be ‘pictured’ on a child until they’re given, and this may just be one of those. It may be that it’s a heavier, old-fashioned type name that you’ve not yet seen in use modern day that is what seems ‘off’ to you? If it helps, I do know a five year old [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] (she goes by nickname [name_m]Harry[/name_m]) and it works brilliantly for her. Also, I do think that of the five options, [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] is the one that fits in best stylistically with [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] & [name_m]Peter[/name_m].

Perhaps you could consider [name_f]Beth[/name_f] as a full first name? I think it’s substantial enough, and if she’s only ever going to go by [name_f]Beth[/name_f] rather than [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] anyway, and you dislike [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]'s popularity, then it would make sense.

[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] gets my vote, and if just [name_f]Beth[/name_f] is an option, [name_f]Beth[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] would come in second.

I love [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f]. I think a familiar one-syllable middle name makes the combo seem more down to earth and accessible. Using [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f] as a pet name would be sweet. Something about [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] really works well with the sibling names.

I absolutely love [name_f]Milly[/name_f].

And I like the combo of [name_f]Milly[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f].

[name_f]Alba[/name_f] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] is delightful
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] would be my second choice

I think [name_f]Alba[/name_f] has an unpleasantly harsh sound. I love all the others–especially [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Milly[/name_f]–that is completely adorable.

If it were me I’d be going for [name_f]Alba[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] but for you I think [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] is the right choice ([name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f] or [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] are gorgeous). It goes well with her siblings’ names and is a lovely vintage name with some very cute nicknames (my favourite is [name_m]Harry[/name_m] but [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] is very cute too). For me [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]’s a very usable name but maybe that’s because I know multiple Harriets, both children and adults. I also love [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] but it sounds like you’re not sure about it…

[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] gets my vote! I love the nn [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] and I think it makes the more formal name so much more comfortable for a little girl. [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f] is very cute! I also like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]/[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]/[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] or [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]/[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f].

My vote goes to [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f] or [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]

I love all of [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] and love these 3 with the sibling names. These are wonderful choices!

[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f] ([name_f]Hattie[/name_f])
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]
[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] ([name_f]Beth[/name_f])
