Albert or Bertie?

I have always been so certain that if I was having a boy, he would be called [name_m]Albert[/name_m]. To go with siblings [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], but would be called [name_u]Bertie[/name_u].

[name_u]Bertie[/name_u] is my granphers name, and gr granpher was [name_m]Albert[/name_m]. Not sure which name to go for, thought [name_m]Albert[/name_m] on BC would be better and more options as an adult. I know my granpher went by [name_u]Bert[/name_u] as an adult, but now he’s older people call him [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] again!

OH just wants [name_u]Bertie[/name_u], but I don’t know!!

I think [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] goes best with the siblings, as they’re both already derivatives of longer names.

[name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] and [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] sound like they were meant to be.

I love both [name_m]Albert[/name_m] and [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] as well, I can see why you’re torn! But I agree with @maggiemary here, [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] & [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] sound meant to be!

Definitely [name_m]Albert[/name_m]! One of my favs!

I think [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] goes well with their names, but does the name age well? That’s why I considered [name_m]Albert[/name_m] on BC so there are more options.

[name_u]Bertie[/name_u] could age really well, do [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] have full names? If they don’t then I can’t see why [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] wouldn’t age as well as [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Tilly[/name_f]

They’re both ugly.

If [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] have full names (eg [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]) then I would use [name_m]Albert[/name_m]. However, I get the impression that they are their full names, correct? Therefore I think [name_m]Albert[/name_m] would be the odd one out and [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] is so adorable and really does feel like the perfect match to [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Tilly[/name_f]. I feel that [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] honours your grandfathers well. So my vote is definitely for [name_u]Bertie[/name_u]!

It’s okay to have an opinion but saying they’re ugly is kind of rude and not really called for. Names such as [name_m]Albert[/name_m] as very on trend in the UK so a lot of people certainly don’t see them as ugly names even if you do. I don’t know where the original poster is from but names like [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] are pretty popular and nothing out of the ordinary.

Personally, I much prefer [name_m]Albert[/name_m] as I like a name to have other options to it so professionally he could be [name_m]Albert[/name_m] but with friends and family he could be [name_u]Bertie[/name_u]. However, if [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] are your children’s full names then I think [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] will fit in just fine. My first thought with [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] is the link to [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] [name_m]Bassett[/name_m] and [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] Botts every flavour beans ha!

[name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] and [name_u]Bertie[/name_u], although not my style they fit together really well!

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]ALBERT[/name_m]!! Of course, [name_m]Albert[/name_m] could be nicknamed [name_u]Bertie[/name_u], but your other children’s names are nicknames from traditional names [name_m]Charles[/name_m] & [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], however you simply named them the nickname, and so [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] ‘goes’ better. But its your choice, i suppose if you’re calling him [name_u]Bertie[/name_u], people other than close family and friends aren’t going to know he’s [name_m]Albert[/name_m] anyway.

[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] are their full names. I agree that [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] does fit with their names better that [name_m]Albert[/name_m] because of the ‘ee’ ending but not sure if it ages well, could you imagine a 17/18 year old [name_u]Bertie[/name_u]? (I suppose he would get called [name_u]Bert[/name_u], which isn’t bad).

I am from the UK and [name_u]Bertie[/name_u]/ [name_m]Albert[/name_m] is not very common.
I also agree that I think of [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] [name_m]Bassett[/name_m], and our surname ends in a B, so it sounds to me like ‘dirty bas##rd!’ I think I prefer [name_m]Albie[/name_m] to [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] as a nn

Also thank you @sheflieswithherownwings for sticking up for my ‘ugly names’! Not everyone has the same taste and that is perfectly fine. I appreciate honest comments but there is no need to be rude. Suggesting another name would be better

It’s ok! Luckily, everyone’s taste in names is different otherwise the world would be a boring place…

[name_m]Just[/name_m] from what you are saying I think you definitely go with [name_m]Albert[/name_m] so you can have a little [name_m]Albie[/name_m] and your husband can have [name_u]Bertie[/name_u]. I think [name_m]Albie[/name_m] is adorable, and I think that could age better than [name_u]Bertie[/name_u]. I know a little boy named Elbie and he wears that fine.

Good luck!
