I’m hopelessly crushing on [name_m]Albion[/name_m] right now. It’s a tiny bit out of my comfort zone when it comes to boy names, but I love the idea of [name_m]Albie[/name_m] and the fact that this is the oldest known name for the British Isles. My husband and his family are all English and so this could be a great nod to that. Current boy favorites are [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], but I can see [name_m]Albion[/name_m] working too. What are your opinions on it?
I think it’s usable. I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the nickname [name_m]Albie[/name_m] and I very much prefer [name_m]Albion[/name_m] as a long form over [name_m]Albert[/name_m]. I have a daughter in kindergarten and I don’t think any of the students, parents or teachers would blink at seeing an [name_m]Albion[/name_m] in the mix.
I really like it!! It’s a nice balance between magical and powerful but also grounded!! It feels unique but also familiar.
[name_m]Albie[/name_m] is adorable
It’s very handsome! [name_u]Unique[/name_u] while sounding familar + it has the sweetest nickname. Go for it!
I like the idea of it (and I adore [name_m]Albie[/name_m]), but I can’t shake the place name feel. I do live in [name_f]England[/name_f] though where it crops up in sports teams for example, and our house hamster is [name_m]Albion[/name_m] nn [name_m]Albie[/name_m], so I think I’d personally have to meet a pretty awesome human to shake the connections haha. I don’t think it’s unusable though, especially outside [name_f]England[/name_f].
This name feels very familiar to me, I can’t place it but i like the feel of it.
I think of [name_m]Albion[/name_m] as a cuty, but could work. Also, could use [name_m]Absalom[/name_m], or [name_m]Albrecht[/name_m]. [name_m]Albie[/name_m] is cute! Maybe [name_m]Allen[/name_m] [name_m]Bennet[/name_m]…thus [name_m]Albie[/name_m]?
I recently added [name_m]Albion[/name_m] [name_u]Oak[/name_u] to my shortlist, and I am head over heels in love! I think it goes beautifully with [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]. It has the complex multi-syllabic sound and strong -ion / -ian ending of [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] plus [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]'s deep connection with English history and lore. Beautiful choice!
I adore [name_m]Albion[/name_m] - especially its subtle link to [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] through the fact that [name_m]Albion[/name_m] is used to refer to [name_m]Britain[/name_m] in many of the legends. [name_m]Albie[/name_m] on its own is very popular in the UK, although someone called [name_m]Albion[/name_m] would probably give me pause, as - as myosotis said - it is still commonly used here as a poetic way of referring to the British Isles. But I think it fits stylistically with [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] and connotations-wise with [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], and it would go nicely with your other children’s names!
[name_m]Albion[/name_m] has this strong ‘old-world magic’ type feel to it that I really like. It makes for a great name, [name_m]Alby[/name_m] is a great nickname option, and I definitely consider it usable.
I think that’s what it is, I think of it as a location name yes but [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]/ [name_m]Merlin[/name_m] so much also… If people can use [name_u]London[/name_u] you can use this for sure. I don’t think I’m thinking of something else… Though maybe there’s a movie title of something random? I think maybe there’s a movie about like a magical place with horses? All around though same vibe.
I think [name_m]Albion[/name_m] is gorgeous and goes with your children’s names well (plus the nn [name_m]Albie[/name_m] is adorable!). I actually didn’t know that it was a name for the British Isles!
Hey everyone, I know it’s been forever but I read and pondered over each of your responses carefully and they made me love the idea of [name_m]Albion[/name_m] “[name_m]Albie[/name_m]” even more. It’s definitely on our shortlist of boy names!
For those wondering if [name_m]Albion[/name_m] is a place name. It is a suburb in Brisbane Queensland. It is/was a well known horse racing track as well. Pronounciation [name_m]Al[/name_m] bee on.
I think it is definitely very doable as a name. Most definitely better than some I have seen.
I love [name_m]Albion[/name_m], but can’t use it.
