Aleah?

I really love the name that is pronounced ‘a-[name_f]Leah[/name_f]’ but I don’t know what the correct spelling is?

Is it [name_f]Aleah[/name_f], [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f]…etc?

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

I don’t know what is most “correct” either, but my personal favourite spelling is [name_f]Alia[/name_f]. It looks the most streamlined and classic.

The correct spelling is [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f].
I don’t mind [name_f]Aleah[/name_f] but I just hate the Aleaha or Aleeiah spellings

I would stick to the correct spelling [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f]. I’ve seen this name spelt so many different ways it’s unbelievable.

This name derives from either عليّة (Arabic) or עֲלִיָּה (Hebrew). Since it is originally from languages that use other scripts, it can be transcribed in multiple ways. Popular transcriptions depending on country of origin include: [name_f]Alia[/name_f], [name_f]Aliya[/name_f], [name_f]Aliyah[/name_f], Aliyya, Aliyyah, [name_f]Alya[/name_f], or [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f] (which is has received the most attention in the US due to the late singer). With transcription cases, it is very difficult to call one version more correct over the other.

I like the name a lot and prefer the [name_f]Aliyah[/name_f] spelling myself.

I find [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f] too tied to the tragic story of the singer to get away from, so I would opt for [name_f]Aleah[/name_f] or [name_f]Aliyah[/name_f]. I know a lovely little girl named [name_f]Aleah[/name_f], and a girl I went to school with (although I hate what she chose), named her daughter Aliyalynn.

Wow, I never would have guessed that [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f] was the original spelling, it looks really made-up to me! I have an acquaintance on Facebook who has a daughter called [name_f]Aleah[/name_f], I’ve always wondered how it was pronounced but thought it was probably uh-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-uh. Maybe I’m wrong!

[name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f] is the most accepted spelling in Arabic speaking places and the most common one in almost every country, so its the correct one in my opinion. That being said, I don’t particularly dislike the [name_f]Aleah[/name_f] spelling. It would probably work just fine on a little girl.

I have a cousin who’s half Persian named [name_f]Aleah[/name_f], so that’s my default spelling. Personally, I find [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f] to be way too tied to the singer but I’m not sure how many little kids would even be aware of her, so I doubt it would be a problem.

I know a gal named [name_f]Aliyah[/name_f], who says it like a-leah.

I love the name. I know a woman who spells it Aleya that is my personal favourite spelling.

I prefer [name_f]Alia[/name_f].

I second the suggestion of [name_f]Alia[/name_f]. I agree that is it the most streamlined and classics. I have met two girls named [name_f]Alia[/name_f] with that spelling and I thought it fit them perfectly.

I also prefer the spelling [name_f]Alia[/name_f], although I think the spellings [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f] and [name_f]Aleah[/name_f] are also lovely.

I like the [name_f]Aliyah[/name_f] and [name_f]Aliya[/name_f] spellings the best.
