I’ve been listening to an audiobook which has a character called Alethea in it (AL-ah-Thea) and I’ve become rather enchanted with the name.
At first I thought it was a misspelling of Althea but they are completely different names and whilst I think Althea is pretty I prefer the sound of Alethea.
I love it! I love the meaning, thr look and the sound. My only problem with it is that peopleay confuse it with a few other names ([name_f]Althea[/name_f], [name_f]Alessia[/name_f], etc). I don’t think it’s huge enough to be a deal breaker though. If you love it, go for it.
I had a student with this name who went by [name_f]Thea[/name_f], and I thought it was great. I really like the nn [name_f]Thea[/name_f] in particular.
[name_f]Alethea[/name_f]’s one I’m not too sure about. I instinctively say/said it [name_m]Al[/name_m]-uh-thee-uh, like you mentioned, but then I saw comments that it sounds too much like a lispy [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] ([name_m]Al[/name_m]-ee-see-uh) and I realised that [name_m]Al[/name_m]-ee-thee-uh was how a lot of people were saying it. I like [name_m]Al[/name_m]-uh-thee-uh, but I’m not sure how ‘correct’ that is, and I’m not a fan of the alternative. Anyway, I think it’s a very pretty name, nice meaning, and wonderful imagery.
It’s okay. To me, it sounds like something you’d find in a fantasy novel, and I’m not 100% sure I think it’s work in real life. Plus, people thinking (as I did) that it was pronounced the same as [name_f]Althea[/name_f] would annoy me. And I think I prefer [name_f]Althea[/name_f] anyway.
