- A-LEE-thay-a
- A-luh-THAY-a
How would you pronounce this name?
TBH, I would have to ask.
What makes me wonder what is intuitive is that the âdefaultâ name is [name_f]Alethea[/name_f], which I think most people would pronounce A-LEE-thee-a, with the stress on the second syllable. Think of the alethiometer in His [name_m]Dark[/name_m] Materials. But [name_f]Aletheia[/name_f] potentially brings a different stress pattern in.
I would probably just ask as well, but my first instinct when reading it was actually âAl-uh-thÄ«-uhâ (basically like the word âeyeâ)
Ok, so your cadence is a third syllable stress.
Yeah. Itâs a super pretty name! I would just be cautious when it comes to pronunciation and make sure youâre clear.
ah-LEE-thee-ah is how itâs meant to be pronounced, so thatâs what iâd go for !! but if i was trying to go for an anglicized pronunciation, iâd assume it was ah-lee-THAY-ah
I know a girl named this. Itâs [name_m]Truth[/name_m] in Greek. Her parents studied Greek. They say her name uh-LAY-thee-uh.
But Google Translate says Ah-LEE-thya
None of the above.
A-LEE-thee-uh
[name_m]Ah[/name_m], different again
A-luh-thee-uh or a-LEE-thee-uh
but to be honest, I would ask
I say a-LAY-thee-uh. Thatâs how we always pronounced it in my greek classes in college haha.
I thought it was âah - LETH - ee - uh.â
I guess Iâm the only one
I would have defaulted to ah LEE thee ah via [name_f]Alethea[/name_f] like you mentioned. [name_m]Read[/name_m] a novel years ago with an [name_f]Alethea[/name_f] and she stuck with me. I would say [name_f]Aletheia[/name_f] the same way⊠anything else wouldâve just been guesswork on my part.
