We’re just days away from having our baby and we’ve recently found ourselves undecided on a boys name. We’re tossing between the following two options and would love some help!
[name]Alexander[/name] ([name]Alex[/name]) [name]Michael[/name] Z([name]German[/name] sounding last name)
[name]Grier[/name] [name]Michael[/name] Z([name]German[/name] sounding last name)
We’re set on [name]Michael[/name] as a middle name but can’t decide what sounds best for a first name if we have a boy! We have no other children but if we had a girl (now or down the road) we’re thinking [name]Eleni[/name] is a nice sibling name. [name]Both[/name] my husband and I have very vanilla first names. Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks!
[name]Alexander[/name]!!! (I love how strong this name is)
When I hear [name]Grier[/name], I think -> [name]Greer[/name] -> [name]Greer[/name] [name]Gabel[/name] -> super glamorous old hollywood gal. -> probably not what you were going for.
[name]Both[/name] names go well with middle name [name]Michael[/name], but I pick [name]Alexander[/name] because of its meaning and history. It’s also one of my favorite boy names.
[name]Greer[/name] is one of my top boy names. I prefer [name]Greer[/name] but I do think [name]Grier[/name] looks more masculine
I love [name]Alexander[/name]; it’s a classic. But [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Michael[/name] very “vanilla”. Since [name]Michael[/name] is set then you need a more unique first, so definitely [name]Grier[/name]
I like [name]Grier[/name] a lot! I’d always heard that spelling was the feminine version, and [name]Greer[/name] was the unisex one, but I do think it’s lovely. I’d never really thought about [name]Grier[/name]/[name]Greer[/name] on a boy, it always seemed rather feminine to me, but I do think [name]Eleni[/name] and [name]Grier[/name] are adorable together and it would be refreshing to meet a little boy with the name! Personally, all that aside, I still like [name]Alexander[/name] more, but [name]Eleni[/name] and [name]Grier[/name] are too cute together to pass up, so that gets my vote.
I never really liked [name]Greer[/name]/[name]Grier[/name]. It sounds a little agressive to me and reminds me of the words ‘sneer’ and ‘queer’. Sorry
If the surname is [name]German[/name]-sounding and beginning with ‘Z’, I’m guessing it’s quite obscure, so I don’t think [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Michael[/name] would be plain next to that. Plus [name]Alexander[/name] has plenty of other cool nicknames besides the lovely [name]Alex[/name] (if you do feel it’s plain) and it fits well with [name]Eleni[/name]
You’ve summed up my feelings entirely. Also, I’m guessing your surname may pose spelling difficulties if it is a bit obscure, so having a first name that people can say and spell easily might be better for your son. [name]Grier[/name], to me, looks like it should be said gry-er.
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Michael[/name] puts me to sleep. I know entirely too many guys named [name]Alex[/name], and the combination itself gives me the impression that the parents weren’t interested in the naming process. Have you considered calling him [name]Xan[/name] instead? Something like [name]Xan[/name] Zimmerman (first “Z” [name]German[/name] surname that came to mind) is unforgettable and packed with personality.
If you’re committed to [name]Alex[/name], I’m going to vote for [name]Grier[/name] [name]Michael[/name]. [name]Grier[/name]/[name]Greer[/name] doesn’t sound feminine to me at all. The sound is harsh and masculine, and I’ve never understood why people think it’s an attractive choice for a girl. I like it much better for a boy, although I can’t call it a favorite.
I like both names. I don’t consider [name]Grier[/name] to be only a girl’s name. It is used on girls, but according to Behind the Names it is a surname that is derived from [name]Gregor[/name], which is quite masculine. It has a masculine and bold sound and I think it works just as well on a boy/man. It is so uncommon, that most people won’t have prior associations with it imo. That being said, [name]Alexander[/name] is a favorite of mine. I don’t find it boring at all. I think it is handsome and you can’t go wrong with it. I think the Z sound in [name]Alexander[/name] would sound great with a surname that starts with a Z.
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Alexander[/name], but I’m not too keen on [name]Alex[/name]. [name]Grier[/name]/[name]Greer[/name] has always seemed like a girls name to me.
If you ln is hard to pronouce/spell, I would go with [name]Alexander[/name] (although I like [name]Xan[/name], [name]Xander[/name], or even [name]Alec[/name] better than [name]Alex[/name]). [name]Grier[/name] is going to be more challenging and I think it’s going to be hard to have it spelled correctly, with this in mind, what about [name]Gregor[/name] or [name]Gregory[/name] instead (I think these are the same “name family”)?
[name]Alexander[/name] for sure. It’s a classic. [name]Grier[/name] to me is more of a girl’s name. I can imagine it on a boy too but it just sounds a little feminine whereas [name]Alexander[/name] is popular but a classic.
I am not crazy about [name]Alex[/name] though. I prefer [name]Xan[/name], [name]Xander[/name] or even Skandar to [name]Alex[/name].
