Alexandra too dated?

I’m looking for a strong sounding name for my daughter and really like [name]Alexandra[/name] though concerned by feedback that it seems quite dated. What do you think? Any alternative suggestions? I’m not into girly / frilly names. Thanks!

[name]Alexandra[/name] is nms but I do like [name]Alexa[/name]/[name]Alexis[/name] etc. that will probably be too girly for you. I’m not sure what you mean by strong names (is it meaning or sound?) but I’ve done some suggestions anyway:

[name]Hermione[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name] (I like [name]Maeva[/name] better though)
[name]Harriet[/name]
[name]Ariadne[/name]
[name]Nadia[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] (Although I like [name]Beatrix[/name] better)

I really like the above suggestion of [name]Alexis[/name], I don’t find that name too frilly at all. I like [name]Alexandra[/name] and especially the nn [name]Alex[/name].

I really like [name]Alexandra[/name],I don’t think it’s dated at all,to me it’s a beautiful and timeless name.
And there are multiple nicknames to choose from

I don’t think [name]Alexandra[/name] is dated if you give it a funky nn like [name]Alexa[/name]!

I don’t think [name]Alexandra[/name] could ever be dated. I put it in the same vein as [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], and [name]Victoria[/name]. They transcend. They’re never trendy but never out-of-style. They’re old but have never lost their freshness. They fit perfectly on an old lady or a new baby. You can’t pinpoint then to a specific era (like [name]Heather[/name] or [name]Mackenzie[/name]). They’re uber feminine but not girly or cutesy. They’re very strong but not at all masculine

Okay, I’m going to be a little biased because my name is [name]Alexis[/name] and but, I tend to go by [name]Alex[/name] now. I think everyone above me is right. Although I’ve seen a few [name]Alexandra[/name]'s I wouldn’t use it because it’s outdated.

No its not dated at all…I love it

It’s definitely not dated. It’s not tied to any one era or generation, like [name]Madison[/name] and [name]Aiden[/name] are/ will be. [name]Alexandra[/name] is and has been in the too 100 for a very long time.

It’s NMS but I think it is classic. A modern nickname I fancy for an [name]Alexandra[/name] is [name]Xandi[/name].
I also like [name]Alexandria[/name].

I think [name]Alexandra[/name] is classic and beautiful. I also think it’s a nice alternative to the ([name]IMO[/name]) over-used [name]Alexis[/name], [name]Alexa[/name], etc.

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name], and agree with everyone above, it will never be dated. I don’t like [name]Alexis[/name], but [name]Alex[/name] is good as a nn. [name]Alexandra[/name] is a wonderful, classic name that will never go out of style. If you like it, then you should definitely use it.

[name]How[/name] can a classic and timeless name like [name]Alexandra[/name] be outdated? I’m quite surprised and shocked by some of these posts. [name]Alexandra[/name] is a beautiful, strong and feminine name that will never go out of style and can never be pigeonholed to a certain period of time (which is the definition of “dated”). A place name like [name]Alexandria[/name] and more modern versions like [name]Alexa[/name]/[name]Alexia[/name]/[name]Alexis[/name] are more “dated” to me than [name]Alexandra[/name] ever go be.

I agree with the above, [name]Alexandra[/name] is a timeless classic and you should definitely use it if you love it ([name]Alexa[/name], [name]Alexis[/name], etc. are just nms). You could use the Italian form-- [name]Alessandra[/name] if you want to mix it up a bit. Alisande is close but different too.

Alexandra is classic. Use it if you love it.

It’s a classic, like [name]Elizabeth[/name]. I don’t think you have anything to worry about on the “dated” front. And I’m not just saying that because my sisters are [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Alexandra[/name] and [name]Anastasia[/name], either…

Definitely NOT “dated”. I’d love to use it but my nephew has the mn [name]Alexander[/name] which makes [name]Alexandra[/name] unusable to me.

To me, it is. I knew so many growing up but now hardly anyone around where I live uses it. I also wouldn’t put it in the same category as [name]Elizabeth[/name].
As long as you like the name, then use it. There’s nothing wrong with it, and I seem to be the minority on this one.

[name]Love[/name] the name [name]Alexandra[/name] and it’s definitely a classic. If anything, I think that the alternatives like [name]Alexis[/name] and [name]Alexa[/name] are somewhat overused and dated sounding. [name]Alexandra[/name] is beautiful though! Another pretty one is [name]Alessandra[/name].

I like [name]Alexandra[/name] and [name]Alexandria[/name].

I think they are timeless.
