I love the name [name_f]Alice[/name_f], but it’s way too popular here in England for me to want to consider {it ranked at #32 in 2012} and it’s increasing in popularity {#37 in 2011}. I like that [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is a vintage name and obviously feminine, but also has a level of whimsical/quirkiness to it. I like that it’s soft in sound, and has great namesakes. What are some other names that are similar in style to [name_f]Alice[/name_f]?
I don’t want names that sound like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] {[name_f]Alina[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] etc}, I want names that are similar in style {vintage yet quirky}. Names with an interesting history {like names from a certain myth or story} are a bonus, but not a requirement. Lúthien is the ideal middle, so it would be nice if it sounded nice with that, but again it’s not a requirement.
My top boys names are Arthur, Bram, Ezra, and Caspian, so I’d like it to sound good with those - again, the more whimsical, the better.
It looks like it is still above #100, are you talking about where you live? I love [name_f]Alice[/name_f] too. I live in a very trendy city and have yet to meet one (around tons of kids)!
Other names that come to mind: [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Aria[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f]…
I’m in [name_f]England[/name_f], where unfortunately the majority of the “vintage classics” are super popular
Thank you for the suggestions! I like [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Aria[/name_f] {although I’m more partial to the [name_u]Arya[/name_u] spelling due to Eragon, one of my favourite books/movies as a child}, [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], and [name_f]Iris[/name_f]!
[name_f]Eileen[/name_f] comes to mind. I know you don’t want same-soundy, but it also feels sweetly vintage & fresh to me and wide-eyed like [name_f]Alice[/name_f].
I don’t know if you like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Mollie[/name_f], or [name_f]Jane[/name_f], but they have always felt like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] to me.
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f] came to mind first. I know it sounds like [name_f]Alice[/name_f], but I also think it has that quirky flair. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t know how popular it is in [name_f]England[/name_f], though.
Oh, and [name_f]Philippa[/name_f]! I just thought of that and I think it sounds more modern and spunky than [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]; more along the lines of [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. So long as you don’t mind the [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] Middleton connection, of course.
taz; [name_f]Eileen[/name_f] just isn’t my style, but thank you.
elizabeth rae; Thank you! I like [name_f]Jane[/name_f], but I’m not sure if I like it enough to use it, if you know what I mean?
jame1881; I do like [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], but I feel it might be a little clunky, whereas I want something that’s softer in sound, I think. I’ve never liked the name [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], but thank you.
boyandgirl; I like [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f]! Again, not sure if I like them enough to use them- they just don’t strike me in the same way that [name_f]Alice[/name_f] does - but they’re pretty.
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] seem in the same category of style.
My sister’s name is [name_f]Alice[/name_f], and while my name is often considered “overused” (It’s [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]), my parents also considered these names to go with big sister [name_f]Alice[/name_f]: [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] and [name_u]June[/name_u].
Here are some others that come to mind:
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Ellen[/name_f]
[name_f]Muriel[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]
Sometimes it takes a while to really love a name! Maybe try taking a few names you love and writing them on sticky notes and sticking them around your room. Saying and seeing them often will often reveal whether you might love them, or really hate them!
