Alice or Adele

I like both these names and recently discovered that they derived from [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is the Germanic or English diminutive, while [name_f]Adele[/name_f] is the [name_u]French[/name_u] one.

Which one do you prefer and why? What kind of vibe do you get from each name (what kind of little girl do you imagine).

Thanks in advance for your answers!

I prefer [name_f]Adele[/name_f]. Both are really nice, but I prefer how [name_f]Adele[/name_f] sounds.
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] would be a mature, kind girl.
[name_f]Adele[/name_f] would be artistic, quiet.

I prefer [name_f]Adele[/name_f]! It sounds so elegant and fairy-like, and it’s unique without being super out there. I also like how it has nicknames, unlike [name_f]Alice[/name_f].

I like Alice better! I love the Alice in Wonderland association! Adele is too tied to the singer for me.

Hi there.

They’re both lovely. Here are my thoughts:

Alice:

Pros-It’s sweet, cheerful, adventurous ala [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in Wonderland. But it’s also quiet & book & smart. And it’s classic & simple.

Cons- The only nns are really [name_u]Allie[/name_u] or [name_f]Lissy[/name_f], which are both meh in my opinion. But maybe you like them. Neither are terrible.

Another con: It’s getting a tad popular.

Adele:

Pros-It’s fairly simple & not common. It’s smart, bold & elegant. It has the cute nn of [name_f]Addie[/name_f].

Cons-Basically half the little girls I meet are called [name_f]Addie[/name_f]. It’s a cute name, but way over done. They’re usually [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f] or [name_u]Addison[/name_u].

Another con: I just don’t think that [name_f]Adele[/name_f] flows off the tongue as nicely as sweet [name_f]Alice[/name_f].

To answer your actually question, I do prefer [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. It’s hard to say w/out a smile. [name_f]Adele[/name_f] is a good solid name, but I just don’t personally like it as much. It sounds a little too serious, maybe?

Hope my rambling helps.

I love both, but [name_f]Adele[/name_f] Is my favourite soundwise! It feels regal, elegant and strong. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] has more fantasy vibe to me (due to [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in Wonderland association).

I absolutely love [name_f]Adele[/name_f]. It’s so distinct and has an artistic sort of flair to me

I personally prefer [name_f]Alice[/name_f]! It feels sharper, more fun, and more versatile.

pros

  • less common
  • french
  • more romantic

cons

  • associated with the singer
  • just gives me… a weird vibe
  • less bold and spunky

pros

  • sharper
  • more whimsical
  • more versatile

cons

  • really popular
  • less romantic

I imagine [name_f]Adele[/name_f] would be an old soul, quite but sweet, with brunette curls and pressed flowers on the walls. She would play the piano and desperately want a bunny.

I’ve know so many Alices, that I could see it on absolutely anyone.

Thank you for your detailed answer  the pros and cons help. I would use the full name, not a nn.

Love the images you have for both

[name_f]Adele[/name_f] feels more romantic to me too, but it is tied to the signer, which bothers me a little.

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is strong, but more popular. However, our family name is really uncommon, therefore a common first name is not that bad.

I agree with this entirely, [name_f]Adele[/name_f] definitely reminds me of the singer and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] reminds me of the curious, adventurous fairy tale character. However, [name_f]Adele[/name_f] feels a little more versatile with the strong ‘d’ sound yet it still has the feminine ending. It is a tough decision, but, overall [name_f]Alice[/name_f] takes the doughnut! :hugs::laughing:

Hope this helps X

I prefer [name_f]Adele[/name_f] in order to have the cool nickname [name_f]Addie[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is more an [name_f]English[/name_f] diminutive from [name_f]Adelheid[/name_f] than a [name_m]German[/name_m] one.

I love both [name_f]Adele[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f], I think I’d probably have to pick [name_f]Alice[/name_f] overall

I prefer [name_f]Alice[/name_f] because it is one of my favorite names so I am definitely biased, and because [name_f]Adele[/name_f] reminds me of a [name_u]Dell[/name_u] computer. The singer [name_f]Adele[/name_f] has made me like the name much more, though!

They bring similar imagery to mind, I think of someone quiet and creative for both.
