Hubby suggested the name [name_f]Anna[/name_f] the other day for our baby girl due in [name_u]August[/name_u], and while I think it’s a fine name, I’m finding it kind of plain. I think with the right middle name, it could be really sweet, though. He suggested [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u], but that runs together for me as one long first name. Any suggestions?
And while you’re thinking… I stumbled upon [name_f]Alice[/name_f] today and found (surprisingly!) that I really like it. I think it fits well with our other kids’ names ([name_m]Ian[/name_m], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]) and is not too popular, which is a huge plus- I don’t know anyone named [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. What do you think of [name_f]Alice[/name_f]? And any middle name suggestions?
For what it’s worth, last name is 3 syllables- Frankenfield- so a mouthful with some fairly harsh sounds in there. I’d like something soft and delicate to balance it out.
I adore [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. It is simple but carries a lot of strength and elegance with it - much more than [name_f]Anne[/name_f] in my opinion. I don’t love [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u], but I really dislike [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] as a MN in general.
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is not my style. I 100% think of the maid from The [name_u]Brady[/name_u] Bunch and find it really 1940’s/1950’s. I know an 11-year-old named [name_f]Alice[/name_f] who has gone by [name_u]Allie[/name_u] practically since birth. I remember her mother telling me once that the Pharmacist asked her to please use the baby’s name and not HERS when picking up prescriptions. I prefer [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] or even [name_u]Allison[/name_u] to [name_f]Alice[/name_f], but I know most on NB love [name_f]Alice[/name_f].
Thanks @yuma! I love [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]- it’s beautiful! I’m not huge on [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f], but I like the M, so maybe [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]? Definitely something to think about.
I know what you mean @our4mccreerys- [name_f]Alice[/name_f] has always felt old to me, too. It’s not until recently that it’s started to appeal to me. It could just be because we’ve been talking about baby names for a while now and nothing is really sticking, so this was something new! [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f], and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] has been my favorite choice as a mn forver. That could be a deal-maker for me!
I love [name_f]Alice[/name_f]! [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is a nice name, but I’ve known so many that it feels a little worn out. I actually prefer [name_f]Anne[/name_f] or [name_f]Annie[/name_f] just because they feel more classic to me.
With a longer last name, I really like the sound of a one syllable middle for [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is very pretty.
I like both names very much, but prefer [name_f]Anna[/name_f] with your surname. If you’re going to use a nickname, I also like [name_f]Annie[/name_f] much more than [name_u]Allie[/name_u]. But that’s just personal taste.
Looking at the names on your signature list, some would make lovely middles:
I prefer [name_f]Anna[/name_f] generally but [name_f]Alice[/name_f] sounds better with your kids–I think [name_m]Ian[/name_m] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] are a bit close. I like PP’s suggestion of [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]!
I like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] better with [name_m]Ian[/name_m] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is a nice name, but it’s very similar to [name_m]Ian[/name_m] so I’d go for [name_f]Alice[/name_f] more here. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is a nice combo too and I like the suggestion of [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f].
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is a lovely name! I think it wears well on any age. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] would work as a middle for it if you decided to go that way.
I personally perfer [name_f]Anna[/name_f], but with your last name, and the names of your other children, I think [name_f]Alice[/name_f] sounds better. So my vote is for [name_f]Alice[/name_f]!
I love, love, love the spunk of [name_f]Alice[/name_f]! It has grown on me a lot over the past year or two. [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] & [name_f]Alice[/name_f] match wonderfully
But [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is super sweet! Both are amazing, really. My favorite combos for you ~
Thanks for the fantastic suggetions! I prefer 1 syllable middle names, too, just because I think it helps balance our longer last name. [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the suggestion of [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. [name_f]Mae[/name_f] has been on my shortlist of middle names, so I don’t know why I didn’t think to pair it with [name_f]Alice[/name_f] (or [name_f]Anna[/name_f] for that matter!).
I definitely prefer [name_f]Alice[/name_f]! I really like it and it just feels whimsical to me and gives me that storybook vibe that I love (probably because of [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in Wonderland). [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is nice but I’m not really a fan. I think that they both fit well with [name_f]Hazel[/name_f].
I think [name_m]Ian[/name_m], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] sound so lovely together. I agree with the previous comments that [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and [name_m]Ian[/name_m] are too similar.
I love the suggestion of [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]!
