do you think Bambi will ever overcome the “negative” connotations?
will Bambi ever become okay to use?
Bambi is such a sweet name with wonderful meanings (Italian:child, African:the flower of life) and has female role models carrying the name (Bambi Northwood-Blyth, Bambi Linn, Bambi Francisco)
As a fan of names like [name_f]Honey[/name_f] and [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f], I want to say [name_f]Bambi[/name_f]'s a perfectly ok choice, however, I feel like the connection to the cartoon will always be there. I wouldn’t exactly say that it’s a negative connection though.
@leafsgirl44: i have previously done my research and always check up to see peoples opinions but the negative connotations are with it feeling like an adult entertainers name… i don’t mind the association with the cartoon, thanks for your feedback
I like [name_f]Bambi[/name_f] a lot! Its super cute and i have seen at least two little girls on ig with that name, so i find it very wearable. My first association is the cartoon. I would not associate it with an adult entertainer at all.
Ehhhhhh it does have an “adult entertainer” vibe to me (and I hate using the term “stripper” to describe a name since it’s such a loaded word). It also sounds a bit like a trashy mom from the 1970s or 80s.
The movie is my first thought though and it’s one of the only Disney movies that I don’t like so I associate it negatively there.
I think it would be hard for a kid to pull off the name [name_f]Bambi[/name_f]. Sorry.
Very, VERY few names would I put in the category of “adult entertainer”. [name_f]Bambi[/name_f] is definitely one. Sorry. In the movie, [name_f]Bambi[/name_f] was a boy deer. The movie would not be a negative association. I personally wouldn’t use it as a middle name or pet name either. It just really screams stripper name to me. Again, sorry.
@sparkleninja19 & @lovemysweeties: no need to be sorry! i was hoping that that vibe was starting to fade from the name but there is hope as first thoughts are more the movie!
There’s a girl in my nutrtition class named [name_f]Bambi[/name_f]- she doesn’t look like an adult entertainer at all lol. I quite like the name, it’s really cute but I wouldn’t name my kid this just for the sole reason that they’re not going to be a child forever, so middle name would do. Besides I can name so many names that sound like adult entertainers that are really popular ([name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Mariah[/name_f], [name_u]Riley[/name_u]…)
I do agree that it’s a little too much/little for a grown woman but I do love it as a nickname, I do use it for a close friend called [name_f]Amber[/name_f] but If not [name_f]Amber[/name_f] maybe:
Amberley
Ambrina
Any Ba name, [name_f]Bathsheba[/name_f], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] etc
Any Am names, my favourite is [name_f]Amabel[/name_f], but maybe [name_f]Amalia[/name_f]/[name_f]Amalina[/name_f], [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], Amrita
Maybe a name combo with the initials BAM or AMB etc
My concern is less the deer connection, and more that it will attract the “stripper name” connotation that tends to get attached the these kind of name… [name_f]Candi[/name_f], [name_f]Brandi[/name_f], etc. I personally think [name_f]Bambi[/name_f] is sweet, but I would only use it as a nickname.
This is my “cutesy” nickname among my family, as my name is [name_f]Amber[/name_f]. I personally like the name a lot, but since it’s a family-only nickname, I’ve never introduced myself to a person as [name_f]Bambi[/name_f]. So I don’t necessarily have a full scope of what it would be like to be named [name_f]Bambi[/name_f]. I think it would work as a nickname for [name_f]Ambrosia[/name_f], Ambrosine or [name_f]Fawn[/name_f].
Side note, regarding the “flower of life” thing you said - I would be careful about sites that describe a name as “African”. It’s a massive continent with a massive amount of languages. If a site can’t specifically name what African language the name is used in (for example Igbo, Somali, Xhosa, etc) then its accuracy is pretty doubtful.
@scholastica thanks for the suggestions i do like [name_f]Amabel[/name_f]!!
@oh.archiekins: completely respect that and i had come acroos on some other forums when researching (whether they are real or not though…) a few people with the name or had met someone with the name and they seemed to have a positive response but i do try to consider all options even saying the name outloud in different sentences!! hah
@amberdaydream: i love love [name_f]Ambrosia[/name_f] but never thought of it for [name_f]Bambi[/name_f]!! thanks!! and thank you for that tip, i will keep that in mind for future!
I like [name_f]Bambi[/name_f] but I do think it’s a high risk/ high reward name (as a name, versus a nickname). To have it as a standalone name, you almost have to be beautiful and artistic and probably wealthy. Otherwise it’s a bit of a cutesy, dumpy name.
@eloiset: that is a very good point! i came across a thread not to long ago today asking what hypothetical situations do you imagine for picking kids names and i have done the whole say it like they were across the room or in trouble etc… and [name_f]Bambi[/name_f] is fine for that but then you look at it in a job they had stated as a judge and it doesn’t quite feel right.
so i think i’ll stick to it as a nn therefore the child can chose what they want to be named
