Allen for a girl

Expecting a baby girl in [name]September[/name]. She will be joining big brother [name]Otto[/name]. What do you think of the name [name]Allen[/name] for a girl? This is a family name (for the males of course). Middle name will be [name]Louise[/name] ” also a family name. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!!

may I suggest [name]Helena[/name] or [name]Elena[/name] instead?

[name]Elena[/name] [name]Louise[/name] would be gorgeous!

I think [name]Allen[/name] for a girl is so cute and new-age!
I love unisex names and people thinking out of the box!

You could also consider [name]Allyn[/name]… maybe a tad more feminine?

Cute choice though!

Have you considered adding your own female flare to this traditional family name? Perhaps:

Alley
[name]Alana[/name]
[name]Allene[/name]
[name]Alexa[/name]

I can’t say I like [name]Allen[/name] for a girl at all. For that matter, I don’t like it for a boy either, but I just really can’t wrap my brain around it in as feminine name.
(I love your son’s name though by the way! Wonderful!)

Would you consider names that have similar sounds to [name]Allen[/name]?:
(Sorry for repeats)
[name]Ellen[/name]
[name]Elin[/name]
[name]Helen[/name]
[name]Helene[/name] (heh-LEEN or heh-[name]LAINE[/name])
[name]Elena[/name]
[name]Elaina[/name]
[name]Eleni[/name]
[name]Laney[/name]
[name]Laine[/name]
[name]Elea[/name]
[name]Ella[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]

Good luck to you!

I rather like it spelled [name]Allyn[/name], which has a somewhat obscure history of being used for women. Either way, it’d be a bold choice. If you want to go more conventionally feminine, any of the forms of [name]Elena[/name] would work ok, but the spelling [name]Allena[/name] seems like it would work best as the most direct tribute.

If you do decide to go with full-on masculine [name]Allen[/name], there’s always the nickname [name]Allie[/name]…

Also, [name]Leni[/name] and [name]Lena[/name]…

I actually really like the previous poster’s idea of [name]Allena[/name]. Distinctly feminine but definitely unique. You could even call her [name]Allen[/name] as a nickname while giving her the fuller form to fall back on…

I met a woman named [name]Allan[/name] once, do not know if that is what her parents named her or something she took up, perhaps it was her middle name or something, a family name or whatever. I like it with the A, not the E. It is not too “all boy” for me either way, it is close to [name]Ellen[/name], and not used for boys, go for it. She will probably be confused for being an [name]Ellen[/name] a lot though, because [name]Allen[/name] is unexpected and people will just fill in what they thought they heard. Correcting them is an issue for some, so weigh that factor in ahead of time. I also like Allanna (var. spellings) as the feminized relation to [name]Allen[/name] or [name]Alan[/name] or [name]Allan[/name]. I’m also a big fan of [name]Elena[/name] or [name]Helena[/name] or whatever related names to that, but if you are calling her after an [name]Allen[/name], those sound near to honor, but not related to the name itself.

I really like the posts that suggest [name]Elena[/name] or [name]Allena[/name]. Also [name]Allene[/name] or [name]Allen[/name]” would be cute.

[name]Allen[/name] is a very bold choice, but if you love it. Go for it!

I’m afraid I really dislike it. It could me nice as a middle name though.

don’t do it!!!

This name has been on my girls list forever!!
[name]Love[/name] it!!

Alynn is the way I spell it.
The combo I liked best was:

Alynn [name]Olivia[/name]

Other combos on my list but not sure of because of the 3 n’s next to each other:

Alynn [name]Nicole[/name]
Alynn [name]Noelle[/name]

If you love it go for it!!

Masculine names work really well as middle names for girls.

[name]How[/name] about [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Allen[/name]?

Some more ideas:

  1. The female form of [name]Allen[/name] (well, [name]Alan[/name]) is [name]Alana[/name].

  2. Other names that contain “lana”, like [name]Alana[/name] include [name]Linnea[/name] (well, Lanaya, but I don’t really care for that spelling), [name]Milana[/name], and [name]Svetlana[/name].

  3. Names that contain just “lan” include [name]Calandra[/name] and [name]Calanthe[/name].

  4. What about [name]Alice[/name]? I think it fits quite well with [name]Otto[/name]… Others with the same [name]Al[/name]- beginning include [name]Alessandra[/name], [name]Alessia[/name], [name]Alexa[/name], and [name]Alexandra[/name], and [name]Alouette[/name]…

  5. Maybe you could use a double name, like [name]Alice[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Alice[/name] [name]Elena[/name], [name]Alice[/name] [name]Eleni[/name], [name]Alice[/name] [name]Ellen[/name], [name]Alice[/name] [name]Helen[/name], [name]Alice[/name] [name]Helena[/name], [name]Alice[/name] [name]Lena[/name], or [name]Alice[/name] [name]Leni[/name] and nickname her [name]Allen[/name]?

  6. [name]How[/name] about [name]Eloise[/name] or [name]Aloisa[/name] as a first name? They honor [name]Louise[/name] and share similiar sounds with [name]Allen[/name]…

[name]Allen[/name] is my middle name, and I’m a girl. [name]Love[/name] it!
