Alliteration in names - HH ?

[name]Hi[/name] Berries,

We love the name [name]Harriet[/name] ([name]Hattie[/name]), but his surname begins with a H. What does everyone think? I would have shied away from alliterative names before, but I really love [name]Harriet[/name].

All opinions appreciated:)

I [name]LOVE[/name] alliteration. Actually, my married name is alliterative. I get lots of compliments on it. Alliterative names sound lyrical or poetic.

I love alliterive names! especially H names, the H is soft enough it’s not overwelming. At one point I had [name]Hadassah[/name] [name]Hope[/name] on my list because I liked the alliteration so much!

I like alliteration. It’s a naming thing in my family (honestly, my mom and I are the only two in my big family that don’t have it!), so I’ve grown quite fond of it. I don’t really see any reason not to, unless it’s something as matchy as [name]Harriet[/name] Hatfield. [name]Harriet[/name] [name]Henry[/name] or [name]Harriet[/name] [name]Hudson[/name], for example, though, are just fine, imo.

I agree. Alliteration can be excellent. Hs are so mild - it’s not like [name]Peter[/name] [name]Piper[/name] or [name]Zo[/name]ë Zimmerman.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Harriet[/name] by the way!

[name]Love[/name] me some alliteration! There was a character named [name]Harriet[/name] [name]Hayes[/name] on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. That name is excellent!

Alliteration is lovely, repetition is not. I agree with what ashthedreamer said, [name]Harriet[/name] Hatfield wouldn’t work, and nor would [name]Harriet[/name] [name]Harrison[/name]. [name]Harriet[/name] [name]Hudson[/name]/[name]Hayes[/name]/[name]Henry[/name] however is perfectly fine.

As it happens, if I used my current top boy’s name, he would be [name]Charlie[/name] C. I actually think that makes the name that little bit more appealing than if he would be [name]Charlie[/name] M or [name]Charlie[/name] R, for example.

I think it is great! Alliteration can be very great sounding.

I love it. I met the cutest girl named [name]Aimee[/name] A… She was so funny. But, I do not like giving all the kiddos alliterative.
[name]Jeremy[/name] [name]Johnson[/name], [name]Julia[/name] [name]Johnson[/name], [name]Jay[/name] [name]Johnson[/name], and [name]Jessica[/name]. This is getting to a weird level.

I love the name [name]Cassandra[/name] - Unfortunately our last name also begging with a ‘[name]Cas[/name]’ sound! So it would alliterate terribly!

I love alliteration too. As long as the two names aren’t too similar in sound, alliteration makes a name more memorable and interesting.

I love [name]Cassandra[/name] too!
Anyway, before I got distracted, I love alliteration, in that I don’t strive to produce it, but don’t mind if it’s there. And [name]Harriet[/name] is just gorgeous - always loved [name]Harriet[/name]! Good luck.

With “H” it’s pretty important to consider the next letter. I think [name]Harriett[/name] is very likely to work with H names that don’t begin with “Ha”.

I know rules don’t apply to names, but I’ve never heard [name]Harriet[/name] for a boy. [name]Harry[/name] and [name]Harold[/name] yes, but not [name]Harriet[/name]. Did miss just miss that one? Lol

When the OP says “his” surname, she means her SO’s surname which their baby girl will be taking.

I like alliteration, my FN + MN are alliterative names.

[name]Love[/name] it!

Thank you Berries for all your great feedback:) I agree with everyone that a [name]Harriet[/name] with a ‘Ha’ sounding surname wouldn’t work. [name]Harriet[/name] is firmly in my top 5 at the moment, thanks again!

I love Alliteration! My favourite alliteration names:

[name]Sarah[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]
[name]Emily[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Ava[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Darcy[/name] [name]Diana[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name] [name]Louise[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]
[name]Reagan[/name] [name]Rose[/name]

the list goes on, as long as the starts aren’t too similar, it’s fine imo

My son is [name]Henry[/name] H. so I am clearly a fan. [name]Love[/name] alliteration!
