I’ve fallen in love with the name [name_f]Hope[/name_f] and our last name sounds similar to Holloway. Is it too much? I have an alliteration name and have always hated it but I really would love to use the name [name_f]Hope[/name_f].
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] Holloway…hmm. It’s not the double H’s (I’m a double H myself) that bother me, it’s the double Ho-. I find it easier to do an alliteration name when the starting sounds are different, a la [name_f]Hailey[/name_f] Holloway or [name_f]Hope[/name_f] [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m].
For me I would need to know your actual last name to decide.
I think it works. If you adore the name and feel it is THE name, it wouldn’t even matter if it didn’t seem like the perfect flow.
I’ve never had a problem with alliteration names.
I think it’s fine. They don’t sound all that similar to me. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] has a strong long O sound, whereas Holloway’s first O has a short O sound.
Thanks for the input all! It’s hard to get a name out of your head if it is THE one! I feel that way about names I like that are “too” popular too.
@ziggy if I can figure out how to send you a personal message I’ll share it! Haha
I think alliterative names can be okay, especialy when the names in question aren’t too unusual. I had a couple of friends with alliterative names at schoola and they all loved their names.
I love it. I love all alliteration names. I think they are easy to remember and give such character, and I’ve always been drawn to them.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] Holloway is a fantastic name! You have to use it
I generally like alliteration, but I agree that it can come across as a bit [name_m]OTT[/name_m]/cartoonish in some cases. This is not one of those cases though! I think it helps that H is such a soft, gentle consonant sound and [name_f]Hope[/name_f] is a very soft, classic name so it doesn’t jump out at you like double V or Z or a more “out there” name choice would. I actually love how the alliteration here brings a bit of extra spice to a very simple, classic, understated pair of names.
I have mixed feelings about alliterated names. On the one hand they can sound quite striking, as [name_f]Hope[/name_f] Holloway does, but on the other hand they draw attention to themselves, and that may not feel comfortable with the bearer.
I personally would see if you can come up with any other names you love and use [name_f]Hope[/name_f] in the middle. The fact that you feel uncomfortable with your own alliterated name says to act with caution here.
