Someone, somewhere started this thought that alliteration = bad. I think alliteration usually sounds really good! Go for it

I generally enjoy alliteration to a point and I think it primary depends on which names are being used and their cadence when being said together. Four names does seem like a lot but if you truly love each of them then you should use them. And since this is your last child, would you regret not using them?

I echo what the above poster said. Four does seem like a lot but if you love his name, than you’ve found the one.

Of course I don’t know the names in question but I tried some samples to see what I thought practically. I would say it depends on the names and the flow.

For example,

[name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_u]Marsh[/name_u] Monahan seems like a mouthful to me but [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] Monahan [name_u]Marsh[/name_u] seems fine.

Like previous posters have said, it really depends on the names. Some alliteration sounds great and some doesn’t. Without knowing the names, it’s hard to fully answer your question.

However, if the names seem so right, then really there’s your answer.

Honoring and adoring the names trump flow and sound. Usually it is only close family and friends (and your bank  ) that know your full name. Close friends and family would most likely understand, and appreciate, the honoring.

As to alliteratives, I think many sound strong and powerful ([name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_m]Redford[/name_m], [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] Kline, [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] [name_m]Chaplin[/name_m], …). Ms work for [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] [name_u]Mason[/name_u], [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u], [name_u]Mickey[/name_u] Mantle, [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Moore[/name_m], [name_u]Mandy[/name_u] [name_m]Moore[/name_m], [name_f]Marlee[/name_f] Matlin, …

I’m in the minority, I am not a big fan of alliteration. But, FWIW, my sisters initials are MMM and she hates it.

I used to hate alliteration in names, now its growing on me. But I think I would be tempted to keep it to first+last or first+middle. All four might sound find but just looks like a list of names to me.

I think you answered your own question in that this is what is meaningful and feels right to you. That’s what matters most. That said, you could look for a variation of our grandfather’s name with a different initial to use instead.

I totally agree with everyone else…

  1. Pick a name that you love.

  2. Honoring family, friends, loved ones, tradition, etc trumps the perfect sound or flow.

  3. Most people will only know him by his first and last name, M.M. - it will be alliterative whether you use M middles or not.

  4. Alliteration is not a bad thing.

Thank you so much to everyone for your feedback! It is much appreciated

These! There is nothing I could add to this that these two ladies haven’t already said. haha.

If you’re the [name_u]Berry[/name_u] I am thinking of (is [name_u]Max[/name_u] [name_m]Martin[/name_m] what you’d been considering?), then I think it works really well (granted, I just picked two random surnames–[name_u]Max[/name_u] [name_m]Martin[/name_m] [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] [name_m]MacGregor[/name_m]). I agree that it might sound better or worse, depending on what the actual four “M” names are, but I agree that significance trumps minor flow issues, and I would encourage you to go for it!

Like others have said, it depends on the names. As a southern girl I love monogramming and getting all of my son’s things engraved with his initials and if it were all one letter I wouldn’t like it. That’s a totally personal thing though! My best friend’s daughter is HHH and she still monograms everything. Go with what you love.

Yes, it is me  … we have decided with on M@ksen and are considering M@ksen [name_u]Marty[/name_u]…
