What do you guys think of the name [name]Alma[/name]?
[name]How[/name] would you pronounce it?
What kind of middlename would you pair it with?
These are the middle names I like/family names I would like to use: [name]Jane[/name], [name]Paulina[/name], [name]Helen[/name]/[name]Ellen[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Martha[/name], [name]Ottilia[/name], [name]Annalise[/name], [name]Edith[/name], [name]Barbara[/name]. What combos would you like? Last name is French (with American pronunciation) 2 syllable, begins with an M, rhymes with Bourdain.
I love [name]Alma[/name]. Such a calm, soft sound. It was getting kind of hip here in [name]Brooklyn[/name] for a while there, but I think the trend might be simmering down. [name]Brooklyn[/name] is probably not an accurate bellwether of naming trends. From your family names, I like
[name]Alma[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Alma[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Alma[/name] [name]Edith[/name]
[name]Alma[/name] [name]Ottilia[/name]
[name]Alma[/name] [name]Barbara[/name] (though I normally dislike [name]Barbara[/name])
From your sig:
[name]Alma[/name] [name]Viola[/name]
[name]Alma[/name] [name]Lily[/name]
[name]Alma[/name] is so cute. There’s this lovely book called “The [name]History[/name] of [name]Love[/name]” by [name]Nicole[/name] Krauss, there’s two girls called [name]Alma[/name] in there.
I think [name]Alma[/name] [name]Ottilia[/name] would be cute (although I might be a bit biased), and [name]Alma[/name] [name]Pauline[/name] is really precious too. [name]Alma[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is beautiful.
I’m surprised [name]Alma[/name] hasn’t caught on like wildfire. It’s square in the middle of the vintage revival trend, it has a beautiful meaning, and it’s very similar to [name]Ava[/name], [name]Aria[/name], [name]Emma[/name], etc.
I really dig [name]Alma[/name]. I would pronounce it “all-ma,” like “almond.” BF thinks that makes it sounds like “all my” with a Southern accent, so he say it “[name]Al[/name]-ma” like “[name]Albert[/name].” I think you could do either; I prefer my way since it’s softer…
I’m going to disagree here and say that [name]Alma[/name] seems very, very old ladyish to me. I can’t picture a baby named [name]Alma[/name]. It’s just not a cute name, imo.
[name]Alma[/name] is lovely. I have never considered it but just realized how much I adore it. What about [name]Alma[/name] [name]Jane[/name], or [name]Alma[/name] [name]Elinor[/name]? I also like [name]Alma[/name] [name]Dove[/name] (so calm and dignified), [name]Alma[/name] [name]Camille[/name], and [name]Alma[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name].
It is very cute and refreshing. There is a new children’s show on Disney [name]Jr[/name]. called “[name]Doc[/name] McStuffins” and the main character (who fixes broken toys) has a friend/neighbor named [name]Alma[/name] who is featured on quite a few episodes. Could be a fun realization when she’s older. =]
I love [name]Alma[/name]! Like blade, I wonder why it hasn’t caught on more. I just read “You Can’t Go Home Again” and there was a character named [name]Alma[/name] which has put it on my radar again. Too bad my husband said “meh” to it.
I really like this one, but it is SO old lady in the Hispanic community (at least where I live). It’s like my 90-year-old grandmother old lady… (she actually has two friends named [name]Alma[/name].) Maybe it’s ready for a comeback…
I loved [name]Alma[/name] until I watched Deadwood. Once I get a character in my mind with a name, I tend to associate the name with that character, and if it’s a negative association it ruins the name for me. [name]Alma[/name] wasn’t really a horrible character, she just annoyed me a whole lot.
I think it’s definitely usable, though, and I love it in theory. [name]Alma[/name] [name]Jane[/name] and [name]Alma[/name] [name]Rose[/name] are both pretty.
My grandma’s middle name is [name]Alma[/name] (al (like the start of [name]Albert[/name]) ma (like the start of magazine)), she was named after her auntie. I quite like it
I am so happy to hear your feedback on [name]Alma[/name]. I would probably end up pronouncing it [name]Al[/name] (like [name]Albert[/name]) - muh, as that is how they pronounce it in the country I live in.
I really like [name]Alma[/name] [name]Rose[/name], I think. I would love to name a daughter after my mom, but [name]Alma[/name] [name]Jane[/name] “Bourdain” would be much to rhymey for me. So I can’t really use [name]Jane[/name] even though I love the name.
[name]Alma[/name] [name]Rose[/name]'s sister would be [name]Lily[/name] [name]Paulina[/name], I think.
