These are my favorite names and the ones I think evoke Mexico more. I am having trouble with middle names though, but because I love so many of my options that I can’t decide. I have made the decision of not using [name_f]Xochitl[/name_f], though I love it, but because as a white person without Mexican heritage I feel like it would be appropriating an Aztec language and culture that were already horribly affected in colonialism. I don’t want to be a modern-day colonialist!
Out of the names on my signature, what would you pair with [name_f]Alma[/name_f] and why?
Out of the names on my signature, what would you pair with [name_f]Frida[/name_f] and why?
I like [name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Isabela[/name_f] or [name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Julieta[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Alma[/name_f] is a really sweet name and great choice.
With [name_f]Frida[/name_f] I like [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_f]Luz[/name_f].
I actually love [name_f]Frida[/name_f]… it’s a vintage name from far back in my family tree. [name_f]Frida[/name_f], I like a lot. [name_f]Alma[/name_f] has a beautiful sound of its own, too, but I guess I have more of an attachment to [name_f]Frida[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Frida[/name_f]. I don’t like a middle that ends in the same letter as the first though, so I would go with [name_f]Belen[/name_f] or Corazon. I’m not a fan of [name_f]Heaven[/name_f] as first or middle name.
With [name_f]Frida[/name_f] I would pair [name_f]Isabela[/name_f] or [name_f]Paloma[/name_f], because I think both of those names soften [name_f]Frida[/name_f], which I find slightly harsh (although I don’t know why). Of the two I slightly prefer [name_f]Frida[/name_f] [name_f]Isabela[/name_f].
With [name_f]Alma[/name_f] I am not quite sure. Of the names in your signature I think I like [name_f]Julieta[/name_f] best, but I am not thrilled because [name_f]Alma[/name_f] is so A-heavy I think it would be better to pair it with a name that does not end in -a. [name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Luz[/name_f] fills that requirement, but it feels very word-heavy (soul light, obviously). Perhaps [name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Pillar[/name_f], [name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], [name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Marisol[/name_f], or [name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] (mari-[name_f]EL[/name_f])?
I would also like to express my appreciation for your acknowledgement that using an indigenous name would be uncomfortably close to cultural appropriation - this was very conscientious of you. I think a little more consideration of the cultural and social implications of name choice would not go amiss, and am always glad when I see it.
I love both the suggestions of [name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Julieta[/name_f] and [name_f]Frida[/name_f] [name_f]Isabela[/name_f]- I can’t decide which I prefer! They would make really pretty sister names!
I love [name_f]Frida[/name_f] and [name_f]Alma[/name_f] for you. As I’ve said on your other threads, I vote [name_f]Frida[/name_f].
Here are my combo ideas:
[name_f]Frida[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f] – Yes, I know there’s the repeated “-a” sound, but this is quite common in Mexican culture so no one would bat an eye. I like that [name_f]Leona[/name_f] means “lioness” and it pairs well with the brave, strong, incredible historical figure that [name_f]Frida[/name_f] [name_f]Kahlo[/name_f] is.
[name_f]Frida[/name_f] [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] – Similar to above, but has a bit more of a melodic sound. This is a strong combo and is one of the best in your signature.
[name_f]Frida[/name_f] [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] – The strong, independent image of [name_f]Frida[/name_f] pairs well with [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] (“dove”), which evokes an image of a free-flying, independent woman unafraid to take on the world.
[name_f]Frida[/name_f] [name_f]Julieta[/name_f] – A romantic sound with two historical figures (one real, one fictional) referenced.
[name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] and [name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f] – [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] combos with a pretty sound, both are melodic with great meanings. [name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f] literally means “soul of a lioness” which is pretty awesome.
I think all of these would be unique, intriguing, and beautiful choices. Regardless, [name_f]Frida[/name_f] and [name_f]Alma[/name_f] are gorgeous, so you can’t go wrong!
I like [name_f]Frida[/name_f] [name_f]Luz[/name_f], [name_f]Frida[/name_f] [name_f]Bel[/name_f]én and [name_f]Frida[/name_f] [name_f]Paloma[/name_f]. For [name_f]Alma[/name_f], I like [name_f]Alma[/name_f] Corazón.
