We’ve only got 2 weeks before number 3 comes into the world and as usual I’m second guessing myself…
The fact that we haven’t decided on a name for a girl yet kind of tells me we haven’t found “the one”. But I stumbled across a name yesterday that I can’t stop thinking about… [name_f]Elke[/name_f].
[name_m]Just[/name_m] want to know what you think? I feel like it’s got the sweetness of [name_u]Lou[/name_u] my other favourite but is a bit more unusual and quirky and sounds better with my own name (Someone pointed out to me the other day that [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_u]Lou[/name_u] are a bit matchy match!)… Anyway I’d love some opinions, [name_f]Elke[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] or [name_f]Elke[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] would probably be the combo’s I’d go with!
I really like [name_f]Elke[/name_f] but I would be worried about teachers and doctors mispronouncing it all the time. Personally I think I would spell it phonetically. I thinks [name_f]Elke[/name_f] Clemintine runs into its self a bit and is harsh to say, but practice saying out loud in every context you can think of and see what you think. I hope that helps!
I can’t tell you how much I [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] [name_f]Elke[/name_f]! I know a 13-year old [name_f]Elka[/name_f] (spelled this way) and she is the loveliest, sweetest, most creative and darling little thing there is. A true beauty inside and out. I had never heard the name beforehand but I have definitely grown to love it. I would totally consider naming my next baby [name_f]Elka[/name_f] if I were to have a girl, but the name is SO tied to her in our circle that it would be obvious that I copied (we see each other about once a week and have lots of family friends in common). I say GO for it!
I don’t love it. If you like [name_u]Lou[/name_u] a lot but a worried about matchy-ness, could you use a longer name with [name_u]Lou[/name_u] as a nickname? [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Louise[/name_f], don’t sound as matchy to me.
I have a close friend with an Elska and so loooooooove [name_f]Elke[/name_f]. I like your combo of [name_f]Elke[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]. What about [name_f]Elke[/name_f]/[name_f]Elka[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]?
[name_f]Elke[/name_f] is a really cute name, it’s got the popular el- sound but the k in it gives it some spunky flair. [name_f]Elke[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] would be fabulous.
[name_f]Elke[/name_f] is great! I like [name_f]Elke[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] and [name_f]Elke[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] both. I’m not a huge [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] fan, sorry! If you go with [name_f]Elke[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] you can call her [name_f]El[/name_f]-C ([name_f]Elsie[/name_f]) sometimes, too:)
[name_f]Elke[/name_f] is great! I do think [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_u]Lou[/name_u] would be too much for me but how often would your names be said together? I don’t think they sound similar enough to be confused.
[name_f]Elke[/name_f] [name_u]Lou[/name_u] would be adorable, imo. [name_u]Lou[/name_u] [name_f]Elke[/name_f] would be nice but makes it sound like one name - similar to [name_f]Luella[/name_f].
I really like [name_f]Elke[/name_f]! So cute and especially cool if you have some Scandinavian/Germanic heritage. [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] aren’t to my taste, but they do sound good with [name_f]Elke[/name_f]. Another possibility would be a [name_f]Lu[/name_f]- name for a middle. Like [name_f]Elke[/name_f] [name_f]Luciana[/name_f], etc. That way you could still use the “[name_u]Lou[/name_u]” nickname sometimes if you wanted.
I actually have a friend named [name_f]Elke[/name_f], and her name is pronounced Elk-ee rather than Elk-a. So, I guess it depends on how you want to say it, as to how to spell it. [name_m]Even[/name_m] before I met my friend, when I saw her name, I assumed the correct pronunciation. So, if I saw a name spelt [name_f]Elka[/name_f], there would be no confusion as to how it was pronounced.
I love [name_f]Elke[/name_f] and prefer it enormously to [name_u]Lou[/name_u]. Nice choice I think! And as others have said, if you go with [name_f]Elke[/name_f] [name_f]Lucienne[/name_f] or [name_f]Elke[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] or [name_f]Elke[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] you can still use [name_u]Lou[/name_u] or [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] as a nickname.
