Almost named my son after a child molesting terrorist!

So, the name I fell in love with, the one I was really thinking about naming my son (due in TWO WEEKS!) turns out is the name of the crazy asshat who sent [name]Obama[/name] and others RICIN poison! Plus turns out he’s also a child molester. Awesome. The name?

[name]JAMES[/name] [name]EVERETT[/name]
(go ahead, google ‘[name]James[/name] [name]Everett[/name] ricin’ Horrible.)

Now what do I do?? We are back to square one. Although my husband wasn’t totally sold on the name to begin with, now he’s really rubbing it in- ‘aren’t you glad we didn’t name him that!!’ etc etc…

What do we do now…?

Honestly, I would do it anyway. The first thing I thought when I saw this story on the news was “Wow, that’s a fantastic name. Wow.” Seriously. He’s so minor that no one will even remember who he is at the end of this year, let alone when your child is older. [name]James[/name] [name]Everett[/name] is an AMAZING name. And he’ll have a different last name, and he’ll mostly be known as [name]James[/name], so people won’t even realize it’s the same name … although that brings me back to the point that no one will remember who this guy is so people won’t connect it anyway. I bet at least 50% of the country right at this moment doesn’t even know who the guy is.

If you don’t like the name, that’s a different story. Were there other names you were considering?

Is [name]Everett[/name] going to be his middle name? If so, I don’t think it’s a big deal. Your son will be called [name]James[/name] LastName, so no one would make the connection.

I think [name]James[/name] [name]Everett[/name] is a lovely name and I doubt twenty years from now any one would even know who the guy is. But, if it’s something that would bother you (and it seems it would) and your husband (it seems it already does) then I would definitely suggest looking for a new name.

[name]Both[/name] names are really great even separately. [name]James[/name] is my favorite boy name (with [name]Henry[/name] a very close second) and I find it works lovely as a middle name! As does [name]Everett[/name].

Some suggestions:
[name]Patrick[/name]
[name]Liam[/name]
Finnick
[name]Graham[/name]
[name]Edward[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name]

Some combos:
[name]Patrick[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Everett[/name] [name]Graham[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Everett[/name] [name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Everett[/name]
[name]James[/name] [name]Gideon[/name]
Finnick [name]James[/name]
[name]Liam[/name] [name]Everett[/name]

any of these your style?

[name]James[/name] [name]Everett[/name] is a handsome name, and in a year nobody will remember anything about that dude. Maybe even six months from now. Hell, maybe even in a month. I didn’t even know the dude’s name and I kinda pay attention to the news.

Sadly, in this day and age almost any name you pick out probably also belongs to a child molester.

If it has a really negative connotation for you and your husband now, then I get that, and totally don’t use it. But if you’re only considering not using it because you think OTHER people are going to associate it with the ricin guy, I wouldn’t worry about that.

If your kid was going to be named [name]John[/name] [name]Wayne[/name] Gacey or [name]Ted[/name] Bundy or something that would be an issue. [name]James[/name] [name]Everett[/name]? Never heard of him. [name]Just[/name] use the name.

I think it’s fine. I didn’t know the guy’s name until I read this post. Go ahead and use it.

[name]James[/name] [name]Everett[/name] is an awesome name, and I highly doubt people will make the connection. I understand that it bothers you though, and it probably would bother me too. Maybe you could switch the names around. [name]Everett[/name] [name]James[/name] would be a handsome name.

[name]Don[/name]'t do it-as you have already both got it in your head so it has negative connotations. Anyway your hubby was not sold on it-so let us help you choose another really quick! xx
(But I totally agree with the others-never heard of him).
Why not: [name]Everett[/name] [name]James[/name]???

Thanks everyone. I think it would just be hard for me to do it now, especially since neither name is family, or significant in any other way…
We are brainstorming- may keep [name]James[/name], but ditch [name]Everett[/name].
Thanks for all the suggestions!

[name]James[/name] [name]Henry[/name] has a similar feel/sound to [name]James[/name] [name]Everett[/name]. [name]James[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]?

Hmm, my first thought was [name]James[/name] [name]Gordon[/name] -my husband is strongly wishing and hoping we can use this name one day so our potential son would share his name with Commissioner [name]Gordon[/name] from Batman and my husband could nn him the commissioner :). Anyway, just wanted to share a name with a positive association. I hope you find something you love soon! Fortunately, tons of names sound amazing with [name]James[/name].

Whoa, this is funny, but my son is [name]Henry[/name] [name]Theodore[/name], so I can’t help but like these picks

I can understand the need to change it. I personally am not a fan of [name]James[/name], but I love [name]Everett[/name].

[name]Hope[/name] this helps your brainstorming.

I’d still choose [name]James[/name] [name]Everett[/name]. I think it’s a great name! If your son’s name will be [name]James[/name] [name]Everett[/name] Surname, then I think that’s fine. Maybe if he’s [name]James[/name] Middle [name]Everett[/name], then think twice.

I agree with the “[name]Everett[/name] [name]James[/name]” swap. I am superstitious in a way, I don’t want my child to have a name with a negative association, even if it’s not widely known. I [name]LOVE[/name] love [name]LOVE[/name] the name “Rielle” and it’s a portmanteau of my two besties, [name]Rena[/name] & [name]Michelle[/name]. But I can’t use it bc of the Rielle [name]Hunter[/name] association. If one person notices, that’s too many in my opinion.

It is a very nice name and I think it’s a name that will lose it’s connection to the Ricen thing…what matters is will you always think of that & remember that? Unless this guys trial is ridiculously entertaining I doubt he will still be part of pop culture.

The fact is that a lot of lovely names & combos are shared by bad people. [name]Just[/name] keep away from the major ones or ones that have affected you personally.

If you are going to forget it:

[name]James[/name] [name]Evander[/name]
[name]James[/name] [name]Emmett[/name]
[name]James[/name] [name]Ivan[/name]
[name]James[/name] [name]Everest[/name]
[name]James[/name] [name]Evening[/name]
[name]James[/name] [name]Evan[/name]

[name]John[/name] [name]Everett[/name]
[name]Jack[/name] [name]Everett[/name]

I’d still use it. I mean I’m sure other people have names of um not so great people. Especially if it’s his middle name I don’t see a big deal. However, if YOU don’t feel comfortable then don’t do it.
