Almost settled on Shea and Scout's sibling

Thank you to all for great opinions and advice. For a boy we feel very secure for [name]Sullivan[/name] [name]James[/name].
However, if it’s a little lady we decided that our fondness for brief names has triumphed and really like [name]Drew[/name]. [name]One[/name] problem is that I want there to be no question that [name]Drew[/name] is a girl so we will likely hyphenate a first name (which I know isn’t everyone’s cup of tea). So…these are what we have come up with and are open to suggestions

[name]Drew[/name]-[name]Madeleine[/name]
[name]Drew[/name]-[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Drew[/name]-[name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Drew[/name]-[name]Marie[/name]

Thoughts? Opinions? We like something obviously feminine but established too.

Out of all of your choices, my favorite would be [name]Drew[/name]-[name]Marie[/name], only because it is not as much of a mouthful. [name]How[/name] about using [name]Drew[/name] as a middle name, with an obviously feminine first name, [name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Drew[/name] is gorgeous, and call her [name]Drew[/name]?

I like [name]Drew[/name]-[name]Madeleine[/name] the most of your options.

Have you considered other short/brief names for girls that might be more feminine? [name]Eve[/name], [name]May[/name], [name]Mae[/name], [name]Bee[/name], [name]Abby[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Anne[/name], [name]Beth[/name], [name]Claire[/name], [name]Faith[/name], [name]Grace[/name], [name]Jade[/name], [name]Kate[/name], [name]Maggie[/name], [name]Lola[/name], [name]Paige[/name], [name]Rain[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Zoe[/name]?

I think [name]Drew[/name]-[name]Marie[/name] is the only one that isn’t a mouthful. Short and sweet is the way to go, I think, and if you tweak the longer names, how about:

[name]Drew[/name]-[name]Beth[/name]
[name]Drew[/name]-[name]Anna[/name]
[name]Drew[/name]-[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Drew[/name]-[name]Megan[/name]
[name]Drew[/name]-[name]Maggie[/name]
[name]Drew[/name]-[name]Maddie[/name]
[name]Drew[/name]-[name]Elena[/name]/[name]Alana[/name]

I think [name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Drew[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Drew[/name] and [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Drew[/name] all have better flow than the order you have them in.

Are [name]Shea[/name] and [name]Scout[/name] girls or boys? I think those both could be either which is why I am wondering why you want to hyphenate [name]Drew[/name]?

Also are you planning on calling her the full name or just [name]Drew[/name]? I think most people hyphenate so it clear you should call them both names but it sounds like you want to hyphenate just so people know it’s a girl then call her [name]Drew[/name].

I too agree with pp to name her [name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Drew[/name] and call her [name]Drew[/name]. Good [name]Luck[/name]!

I am looking to just call her [name]Drew[/name] if it is a girl, I just hate to see government and school mishaps occur about gender and I think this could be avoided by hyphenating and not using the second name except in formal settings and on forms.
Where we live it doesn’t really fly to call their child by the middle name. I appreciate that [name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Drew[/name] sounds better, but to call the baby [name]Drew[/name] we would prefer to just drop the second half of the hyphenated name.
[name]Shea[/name] is a boy and [name]Scout[/name] is a girl (we prefer short and snappy names that are usually unisex) We are just worried that [name]Drew[/name] may be too unisex and want to girl it up a little somehow

I think hyphenated names really only work with the first name being hyphenated is an absolutely timeless classic, like [name]Mary[/name] or [name]Anne[/name]. The reason it began is because SO many women carried those names they needed some way of distinguishing themselves.

School forms, government IDs, etc will all carry three legal names. There will be no question that [name]Drew[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name] is a girl-- she won’t have to register for Selective Service, she won’t be assigned to boys’ gym class, etc. As you favor short and snappy, I would trust your judgement and leave hyphenating for all the [name]Mary[/name]-Kates and [name]Anne[/name]-[name]Maries[/name] of the world.

Again, I would pair [name]Drew[/name] with a longer and very feminine middle name, and you will both avoid all gender confusion difficulty, as well as select a truly beautiful name. (After all, there may well be a point in time when little [name]Drew[/name] is, say, 9 that she wants a glamorous ballerina name, and she’ll have her middle name to fall back on). I know you were thinking about [name]Waverly[/name] earlier-- I would avoid it, as it’s just a little too unisex.

[name]Drew[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name]
[name]Drew[/name] [name]Alessandra[/name]
[name]Drew[/name] [name]Anastasia[/name]
[name]Drew[/name] [name]Arielle[/name]
[name]Drew[/name] [name]Sariah[/name]
[name]Drew[/name] [name]Selena[/name]
[name]Drew[/name] [name]Dominique[/name]
[name]Drew[/name] [name]Liliana[/name]
[name]Drew[/name] [name]Corinna[/name]
[name]Drew[/name] [name]Juliette[/name]
[name]Drew[/name] [name]Viviana[/name]
[name]Drew[/name] [name]Catalina[/name]
[name]Drew[/name] [name]Daniela[/name]
[name]Drew[/name] [name]Delphine[/name] (a French name meaning ‘dolphin’)

My thoughts, too. With so many other unisex names out there, I don’t think that people jump to conclusions quite as frequently. I come from an area where people hyphenate names and I don’t usually mind them, but like blade said, they’re always with some tried and true standard like [name]Anne[/name], [name]Mary[/name], or [name]Mae[/name]. [name]Drew[/name]-[name]Madeleine[/name] doesn’t look more feminine to me, just more awkward and less like what you described wanting (a short, simple, name)… I would trust people to catch up (you can always mention, “Like [name]Drew[/name] Barrymore,” if need be) and go without the hyphen.

If you really want the hyphen, I would use [name]Drew[/name]-[name]Marie[/name] since [name]Marie[/name] is the closest to one of those stand-bys that is frequently used in hyphenated names (like [name]Ann[/name]-[name]Marie[/name]).

I like [name]Drew[/name]… boys or girls. And there is [name]Drew[/name] Barrymore. So you do have that one super strong female on your side. Have you thought of a different spelling?

[name]Drucilla[/name] was on my list a long time ago, with the full intention of calling her [name]Dru[/name]. In my opinion… [name]Dru[/name] could appear more feminine in appearance than [name]Drew[/name].

[name]Drew[/name]-[name]Madeleine[/name] is my favourite out of all of those combos.

Hmm… I’m not a fan on hyphenating at all. I like [name]Drew[/name] on its own.
But if I had to pick I’d go with [name]Drew[/name]- [name]Madeleine[/name].

[name]Sullivan[/name] [name]James[/name] is perfection!
