[name]Emilia[/name].
[name]Emmeline[/name] is too goody-goody to me. Like, you have the [name]Emme[/name]- (as in [name]Emma[/name], [name]Emmanuelle[/name], [name]Emily[/name] etc.) which already is kinda sugar sweet, and when you then add -line (which is the princess-pinkest ending a name can get), and don’t get me wrong, I like sweet names like [name]Josephine[/name] etc., but [name]Emmeline[/name] is just too much for me.
[name]Emilia[/name] is a good, strong name. It’s sweet but without being too sweet.

I like the sound of either, but I like the spelling [name]Amelia[/name] better.

I agree that I prefer [name]Amelia[/name]…

As an [name]Emilia[/name] I would also suggest [name]Amelia[/name] as it is easier to spell.

I really like [name]Emmeline[/name]… It’s whimsical to me because it reminds me of [name]Brooke[/name] Sheilds character in the [name]Blue[/name] Lagoon! I think that’s the main reason I like it but its not a bad reason! I feel a little indifferent about [name]Emelia[/name]… I much prefer [name]Amelia[/name] spelling but even then it’s popularity (number 1 in [name]Britain[/name]!) is a negative in my eyes so I would still vote [name]Emmeline[/name]…

I second that.

I personally love both names, but I have a slight preference for [name]Emmeline[/name]. However that’s only with the -leen pronunciation. I’m not fond of the -line or -lyn pronunciations at all. [name]Both[/name] names are beautiful!

[name]Both[/name] names are beautiful, but I voted [name]Emmeline[/name] as I don’t really fond of the spelling of [name]Emilia[/name]. I much preferred [name]Amelia[/name].

Before [name]Tea[/name]
by A.A. Milne

[name]Emmeline[/name]
Has not been seen
For more than week. She slipped between
The two tall treees at the end of the green…
We all went after her. “[name]Emmeline[/name]!”

“[name]Emmeline[/name],
I didn’t mean -
I only said that your hands weren’t clean.”
We went to the trees at the end of the green…
But [name]Emmeline[/name]
Was not to be seen.

[name]Emmeline[/name]
Came slipping between
The two tall trees at the end of the green.
We all ran up to her. “[name]Emmeline[/name]!
Where have you been?
Where have you been?
Why, it’s not more than week!” And [name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Said[/name], “Sillies, I went and saw the [name]Queen[/name].
She says my hands are purfickly clean!”

Another vote for [name]Amelia[/name]. I just can’t get on the [name]Emmeline[/name] band wagon.

They are both great names, but I much prefer [name]Emilia[/name]. I agree with Shvibziks about [name]Emmeline[/name] being overly sweet and [name]Emilia[/name] being the stronger name of the two. The pronunciation issues for [name]Emmeline[/name] drive me bonkers too.

[name]Emilia[/name] reminds me of the beautiful [name]Emilia[/name] [name]Clarke[/name] ([name]Daenerys[/name] Targaryen) from Game of Thrones.

I think you’re going to come across issues with both. [name]Emilia[/name] will have both spelling (being mistaken for [name]Amelia[/name]) and pronunciation issues (em-uh-lee-uh or em-mill-ee-uh are two of the many I’ve seen). [name]Emmeline[/name] will be virtually the same ([name]Emmaline[/name], [name]Emeline[/name], [name]Emmalyn[/name]) and then the different pronunciations of course.

Personal preference would depend on how you’re pronouncing [name]Emmeline[/name]. [name]Emmeline[/name] reminds me of [name]Emmeline[/name] Pankhurst. [name]Emilia[/name] makes me think [name]Shakespeare[/name] and [name]Emilia[/name] [name]Clarke[/name].

Pbi- I put a lot more weight on a historical figure who led the British suffragette movement over a rather minor Shakespearian character and actress.

I don’t like either, but if I had to pick…[name]Emmeline[/name] because it looks less made up.

I agree I like [name]Amelia[/name] much better too… [name]Emmeline[/name] is not my style at all… I don’t like it at all

I love [name]Emilia[/name] with an E. I pronounce it differently from [name]Amelia[/name]. Eh- instead of [name]Ah[/name]-. I love how soft it sounds.
I voted for [name]Emilia[/name] over [name]Emmeline[/name].

Neither name is made up. [name]Both[/name] are classic names that have been around for centuries.

This. I pronounce them differently as well. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Emilia[/name] and would use it if it wasn’t in use in the family already.

I agree with this as well!! I MUCH prefer the spelling with an E. It’s been on my name list for a long time.

[name]Emilia[/name] may look made-up (haven’t all names been made-up at one point), but it certainly isn’t (not in the popular sense of ‘made-up’, that is). It’s the name of a character in [name]Shakespeare[/name]'s [name]Othello[/name].
