Alternate spellings

My husband and I are TTC so we have naturally begun discussing names. In the blog, I recently came across the name [name]Boman[/name] and we both like it a lot! The more common spelling, I imagine, would be [name]Bowman[/name] as in the surname but I’m curious as no all of your preferences on the matter.

[name]Boman[/name] or [name]Bowman[/name]? And why?

Thanks!

[name]BOWMAN[/name]. In all caps, no less. I absolutely love this name; it’s a great alternative to [name]Archer[/name], and it’s on my long list. I pronounce [name]Boman[/name] like roamin’, whereas [name]Bowman[/name] is, well, [name]BOW[/name]-man.

Yeah. This really needs the ‘w’ to work. I’d read it as ‘bomm-an’ otherwise.

[name]Bowman[/name]. [name]Boman[/name] is just too similar to [name]Roman[/name]/[name]Ramon[/name]/etc., for me.

It just needs the “W” - without the “W”, its just confusing. Use [name]Bo[/name] as a nickname if you want but please keep the W.

I agree with the others that the W is necessary.

I read bomb-en when I first saw [name]Boman[/name]. … reminds me of [name]Obama[/name]

Oh, yes, definitely [name]Bowman[/name]. Since it means bowman, a synonym of archer, it seems silly to remove the W that reflects the name’s origin and meaning. [name]Boman[/name] looks like it’s missing something–the W.

Actually, [name]Boman[/name] with that spelling means “Great Mind” so adding the W changes the meaning of the name as well. [name]Boman[/name] isn’t simply an alternative spelling that I made up.

[name]Ah[/name], sorry. Live and learn. I knew you didn’t make [name]Boman[/name] up, since I’ve seen it before, but I did assume [name]Boman[/name] and [name]Bowman[/name] were the same name. It’s your choice which you prefer–I still prefer [name]Bowman[/name].

[name]Bowman[/name], [name]Boman[/name] looks like a made up name.

Sorry, I just realized my post came off a bit rude. Not my intention! Thanks so much for the input!

I would instinctively go to spell the name [name]Bowman[/name], assuming it was a surnamey-type name, but [name]Boman[/name] wouldn’t be too hard to get people to spell - “It’s like [name]Roman[/name] but with a B at the start” isn’t that difficult for people to grasp, or your son to tell people.

I agree [name]Boman[/name] is great and nn [name]Bo[/name] would just be the cherry on top.
I have to do the whole “[name]Roman[/name] with a B” thing with my last name.
Much easier to explain than some other name options where you literally have to spell it out.
