Alternative for Frances

I am thinking of changing my name and i dont like my grandma’s name, [name_f]Frances[/name_f], which isnmy middle name. However, I would like to honor my grandma either by keeping her name or another namr that would honor her. I hate the names [name_f]Francine[/name_f], [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] grandma was born in [name_u]December[/name_u] and she had a green thumb. I even remember helping her water all of the plants on her porch. She also had a garden where she grew vegetables such as tomatoes. Any name suggestions would be helpful.

Thank you.

[name_u]Florence[/name_u] came to mind, it has a lot of similar sounds! [name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe another name ending in an -ees sound, like [name_f]Iris[/name_f] (which also has a botanical connection), [name_f]Anais[/name_f], [name_f]Maris[/name_f]? If you have precious memories of your grandmother and gardening you could also just go for a botanical name, there are many lists of flower & plant names out there, but for some quick inspiration: [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_u]Rose[/name_u], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Petal[/name_f], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] come to mind. You could also go for a name that shares the same meaning as [name_f]Frances[/name_f], “free man”, like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] / [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] / [name_f]Karolina[/name_f] or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] / [name_u]Carol[/name_u] / [name_f]Carla[/name_f] / [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] / [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]!

Maybe [name_u]Fern[/name_u]? All of its letters are in [name_f]Frances[/name_f] plus a botanical connection.

Pick another [name_u]French[/name_u] city

[name_u]Fern[/name_u] is a great suggestion.

[name_u]French[/name_u]
[name_f]Francoise[/name_f]
[name_f]Fanya[/name_f]
[name_f]Franziska[/name_f] or [name_f]Ziska[/name_f]
[name_f]Nancy[/name_f]
[name_u]Holly[/name_u] (botanical, December/Christmas connection)

Based on same meaning as [name_f]Frances[/name_f]:

[name_f]Carlotta[/name_f]
[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_u]Liberty[/name_u]

Based on the passions of your grandmother:

[name_u]Florence[/name_u]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloë[/name_f]
[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]

Based on sound for [name_f]Frances[/name_f]:

[name_f]Finja[/name_f]
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f]
[name_f]Reina[/name_f]
[name_f]Cherith[/name_f]
[name_f]Essie[/name_f]

I love just Cesca as a short form of [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]. I think that has class and distinction but eliminates the [name_u]Fran[/name_u] part.

I like these december/botanical inspired names also:

[name_f]Holliday[/name_f]
[name_u]Holly[/name_u]
[name_u]Ivy[/name_u]
[name_u]Ember[/name_u]

All the best

[name_u]Holly[/name_u]? Considering your grandmother’s love of gardening and that she was born in [name_u]December[/name_u].

I like the idea of [name_f]Noelle[/name_f], it’s [name_u]French[/name_u] and in [name_u]December[/name_u].
Otherwise, [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is nice.

Really, any name that begins with an F would honor her. I feel you that you received a middle name that you don’t like that is a family honor name.
