My husband and I are so in love with the name [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] for the little one we are expecting in 3 months. Unfortunately, we made the mistake of telling everyone and even my mother is freaking out about naming our DD after a [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] character…
I love the old English feel, the link to [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] and ancient myth. Any other names fit the bill?
I love [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] and [name_u]Shiloh[/name_u] but DH does not.
He likes [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] but I don’t and it’s too popular
We like [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] also but it’s getting popular too!
I love the name [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]! I really think you shouldn’t let anyone stop you from using the name you love, not even it’s your mother! Once the child is there and you have given her the name, no one will dare to say anything against it!
But nonetheless, maybe you would like to consider these names as alternatives:
[name_f]Amanda[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Catriona[/name_f]
[name_f]Cressida[/name_f]
[name_f]Ellinor[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]/[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Kendra[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucina[/name_f]
[name_f]Margery[/name_f]
[name_u]Meredith[/name_u]
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f]
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f] (another [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] name, but I doubt that many will recognize it as such)
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] is one of my favourite names too. I occasionally consider the fact that so many definitely will link it to HP, but then I remember that it’s been a name for a long, long time before that! I would stick with the name if you love it dearly - the name will become your daughter’s, rather than being as it might seem now, a reference to a character.
That said, here are a few more Shakespearean names, and a few more suggestions, to go with the great list of the previous poster!
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] is a gorgeous name, and [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] (and the character of [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_m]Granger[/name_m]) is a fantastic ‘namesake’ to have, so I say stick with it. Sure, there will be people that assume you’re a HP fan (and maybe you are or aren’t) and love to comment on that, but so what? The [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] universe is far from a negative association…try to see that light rather than focus on the negative side and embrace it. Your little [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] will fast grow into her name and it will become all hers, so I say stick with it. That said, if that connection bothers you even just a little, I think using a different middle might pay off as [name_f]Grace[/name_f] & [name_m]Granger[/name_m] do have their similarities, and that might be a little much? As it is in the middle though, it’s not a big deal.
I would stick with [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] if you really love it. The character from [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] is a good “role model” as well. It would be different if you wanted to name your kid [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f].
I agree with the above-- stick with [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] if you love it. [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is a lovely combination, but you could change the mn to make it less similar to [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_m]Granger[/name_m]. [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f], Heremione [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], etc. are all good combinations too.
If you decide to go with something else though, here are some more possibilities:
I agree with everyone else, keep [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] if it is the name you really love. the HP connection may be obvious, but [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_m]Granger[/name_m] is a fantastic role model so I see it as a possitive association.
