I’m reading a novel with an [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] as a main character, and it’s brought [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] back to the forefront of my attention–she was my first favorite girls’ name! I’ve really fallen for the combo [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f], but I’m torn, because I no longer like [name_u]Abby[/name_u], and [name_f]Gail[/name_f] is my aunt’s name, so it’s out, too. Any other nn ideas? I was perusing another “nn for [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]” thread, and mostly the suggestions were [name_f]Bea[/name_f]/[name_f]Bee[/name_f] and [name_f]Gigi[/name_f], which are both cute, but I’m not sure I’m massively fond of them. Are there any other nns for [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] out there? I’m okay if they’re a bit of a stretch, but I don’t really want something that’s totally out in left-field.
Question B–could Aylee/Ailidh/[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f]/Ailey (sp?) work? @opheliaflora suggested it in the “quick question” thread, and I really didn’t get it at first, but now I see it. I honestly love the name [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f], but have avoided it up front because I felt like it’d be a name nightmare in [name_u]America[/name_u], but if I did it as a nn for [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], I feel like [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] nn [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] would make no sense, for multiple reasons (no spelling connection, and they’re both legitimate names in their own right…).
And Question C, wdyt of [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f]? [name_f]Leona[/name_f]'s been a FN for a while on my short list, but I’m starting to think that a MN spot for her would be more ideal. If you had to opt for ____ [name_f]Leona[/name_f] (and you don’t like [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f]), what FN would you pick?
Thanks, Berries!
1.) how about [name_u]Bay[/name_u]/[name_f]Baye[/name_f]? I love this option! or maybe [name_m]Abe[/name_m] for a more unisex feel? maybe you can get a cute nn for [name_f]Leona[/name_f] and call her by that? (lovely combo btw!)
2.) I like Ailey/Aylee as a nn. i’m from america and i didn’t know how to pronounce the other options at first. i think those spellings will be extremely hard to deal with in [name_u]America[/name_u] (not sure where you’re from but if you live in the states i’d advise you use Ailey/Aylee. i like Aylee a lot!
I like [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f]! other fn to pair are
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f] (or anything that ends with the ee sound)
[name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Leona[/name_f]
good luck!
Thanks, @ziggywiggy! I think [name_u]Bay[/name_u]'s adorable, but right now I’ve been loving it for a boy, so I’m not sure. [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] nn [name_u]Bay[/name_u] has more potential than some of the other options, though! [name_m]Abe[/name_m] is fine, but way too masculine for me, and I don’t even like it for a boy.
And I agree on [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] (which is why I’ve avoided it for so long as a FN). It’s a variant of my little sister’s MN, so I’d ideally love to use it, but I just think it’d be a nightmare. But I feel like Ailey or Aylee are so much less aesthetically pleasing.
I really like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f]! There’s a member on here who has a little [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f], which makes me hesitate–I wouldn’t want to steal a fellow [name_u]Berry[/name_u]'s combo–but it is really gorgeous! I love the significance of my current [name_f]Violet[/name_f] combo (it honors four generations of family!), but if I ever grew tired of it, I think I’d seriously consider [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f], too.
Anyone else?
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] is a sweet name, I think I’ve always liked it but it’s been overexposed in my generation. My first thought for an out of the box nickname for [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] was [name_m]Iggy[/name_m]. It’s not a stretch, but it’s quirkier than the other more common options. [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f] nn [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] would be awesome in my opinion.
Phonetically it seems workable, but I don’t think [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] nn [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] is sense all enough for real life, but if anything Ailey works as the best spelling of the nickname.
I really like [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f]! Only problem I see is the blending of the L sounds. But if it doesn’t bother you then it’s irrelevant anyway.
I see this is an old thread, but [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] is a favorite of mine and I was recently considering the NN [name_u]Gili[/name_u] since it’s [name_f]Joy[/name_f] in Hebrew and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] comes from the root of [name_u]Gili[/name_u] meaning “my fathers’s Joy”. I was going to ask if people thought it was too out there on another thread but found this thread and thought I’d drop the suggestion.
