Alternative to Sebastian...?

Hey berries,

My hubby loves [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] (it’s been a long time name love of his) and when we first started talking babies and names, I loved it too… but I don’t feel that any more. I like the name, and nothing significant has happened to blemish it in my eyes. I’m simply not loving any more, and really can’t see myself happily using it…

So, my question is, what are some names of a similar style and feel that I might be able to replace [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] with?? Something a bit classic, but uncommon…

Our current combination is [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Alastair[/name_m] [name_u]Murray[/name_u]. Both are family names, but [name_u]Murray[/name_u] is my Dad’s name, so we would definitely want to keep it in the new combo. I love [name_m]Alastair[/name_m], but we could easily use another name.

Thanks, berries! (I’d love some ideas to offer my hubs when I break it that I’m “over” his fave name)

PS. Does anyone think I should just leave it and let him have the name, if the time comes?? Is wanting to change too pushy on my part??

I love [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]. Have you considered [name_m]Bastian[/name_m]/Bastein. I actually slightly prefer [name_m]Bastian[/name_m] or Bastein over [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m].

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there. I saw in your signature that you’re not planning to TTC for two years, so I just want to say try not to stress yourselves out too much about finding the perfect name to replace [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] between now and then. 2019 is still a ways away.

My partner told me when we first started dating that his #1 favorite name for a son was [name_m]Xavier[/name_m], and his second choice was [name_u]Shannon[/name_u]. Neither were my style at all. When I got pregnant, our list had about 40+ names on it, and by about the midway point, we’d narrowed it down to five names we both absolutely loved.

Can you tell us other names you would like instead of [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] or [name_m]Alistair[/name_m]? It’d be helpful to get a better sense of your style (and your husband’s, too, if he likes any names other than this one).

Who knows? Two years from now, you may be in love with [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] all over again, or find when you look at your son’s face for the first time that [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] suits him more than any other name you thought you liked better.

Again, try not to worry!

@seedsandstones

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! You’re response was so sweet

I’m not stressing over it, I just find names fun and interesting! They keep my brain occupied when I’m feeling clucky! Lol

I just thought it would be interesting to see what names other people thought might work, that’s all.

Other boys names (firsts) that we have on the definite list are [name_u]Bentley[/name_u], [name_m]Saxon[/name_m], and [name_m]Felix[/name_m].

This is true, I might like it again… but the last few names I’ve fallen out of love with have stayed that way. Guess we’ll see.

[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] is lovely but if it has lost that “spark” for you, I think of the following as similar in style (some more unusual than others):

[name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
[name_m]Benedict[/name_m]
[name_m]Maximilian[/name_m]
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
[name_m]Matthias[/name_m]
[name_m]Horatio[/name_m]
[name_m]Nikolai[/name_m]
[name_u]August/name_u
[name_u]Constantine[/name_u]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Montague[/name_m]
[name_m]Montgomery[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]/[name_m]Olivier[/name_m]
[name_m]Xavier[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m]
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m]
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]

And I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Felix[/name_m]! [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] or [name_m]Alasdair[/name_m] might also work really nicely as a first?

@katinka
Ooooo… I love some of those. Thanks!
Yes, I like [name_m]Alastair[/name_m] as a first… but need to convince hubby lol He’s not so appreciative of it as me, but it’s a family name so he’s letting me have it haha
I love [name_m]Felix[/name_m] too! So underrated.
