We haven’t found out what we’re having, and we’re pretty set with girls names. But for a boy … we [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Jack[/name] as a nickname, but I’m liking [name]Jackson[/name] less and less. We’ve nixed [name]John[/name] and [name]Jacob[/name], and my DH doesn’t like [name]Jagger[/name]. I’ve even been thinking [name]Xavier[/name], because we love that name too, but [name]Jack[/name] might be too far of a reach there. Does anybody have any other options for a full name with nn [name]Jack[/name]?
[name]Jacoby[/name] was on my list for awhile. Or Jakobi
What about a foreign version, such as [name]Jacques[/name]?
[name]Joaquin[/name], [name]Gianni[/name], [name]Johan[/name] - will try to think of more.
My friend named simply her son [name]Jack[/name]. [name]Jack[/name] [name]Henry[/name]. No confusion, that’s just his name!
This is a great solution, rainyday!
Those are some GREAT suggestions, but DH and I have been arguing about them all. My dad is [name]John[/name], so we nixed that (although the [name]Jack[/name] nn is honoring him). [name]Jacoby[/name] and [name]Jagger[/name] are too … cool for us. DH is against any foreign alternatives. And I definitely want [name]Jack[/name] as a nickname and not standing alone. On top of all this, we’re worried about the popularity of “[name]Jackson[/name]” now that [name]Michael[/name] [name]Jackson[/name] has died.
Is there any connection at all from [name]Xavier[/name] to [name]Jack[/name] that I could work with? Those are the two names we really love, but is it too far-fetched?
Well, it is quite a distance to go from [name]Xavier[/name] to [name]Jack[/name], but [name]Jack[/name] is one of those nicknames that works for a lot of longer forms, and if you’re set on [name]Jack[/name] as a short form yet not a stand-alone, yet you’ve ruled out all the usual longer forms that lead more directly to [name]Jack[/name], you’re pretty much left standing hand in hand with [name]Xavier[/name], aren’t you.
You COULD use [name]Jonathan[/name], I suppose, or even [name]Jonah[/name], though those aren’t all that much closer to [name]Jack[/name] than [name]Xavier[/name].
What if you use initials to make the connection? [name]JAX[/name] can be used for [name]Jack[/name]. My sister in law loved [name]Maggie[/name], but not [name]Margaret[/name], so we came up with [name]Meredith[/name] [name]Abigayle[/name] [name]Grace[/name] ([name]MAGS[/name]). She goes by [name]Meredith[/name] and [name]Maggie[/name].
You already have [name]Xavier[/name] for the X, so see what J and A’s you find that work.
What about [name]Xavier[/name] [name]Jackson[/name]? A lot of people I know go by their middle names. If you want to really stretch it, some names that have the same meaning of [name]Jack[/name] (“God is [name]Gracious[/name]”) are…
[name]Ian[/name]
[name]Sean[/name]
[name]Shane[/name]
[name]Zane[/name]
I love [name]Xavier[/name] [name]Jack[/name]!
You could name him something entirely different and then have his middle name be [name]Jack[/name] or [name]John[/name], calling him by his middle name. It makes things a little complicated, but always an option.
I have a friend whose first name was [name]Justin[/name]. His dad wanted to name him [name]Jay[/name] after [name]Gatsby[/name] but his mother thought it wasn’t formal enough, too much of a nickname.
NO one calls him [name]Justin[/name], he’s totally a [name]Jay[/name] and he’s a bit of a dashing fellow, I must admit
He changed my association with that name and I really like it now.
Jacory- Jackory- Jackary- Jacklee
or maybe hyphenated names such as:
[name_m]Jack[/name_m]-[name_m]Xavier[/name_m]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m]-[name_m]David[/name_m] (I think this one is charming)
Good luck!
[name_u]James[/name_u] - this is actually closer to [name_m]Jack[/name_m] then the traditional [name_m]John[/name_m].
I agree that [name_u]James[/name_u] seems like a very intuitive option. You could also do [name_m]Jannick[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Jarvis[/name_m], [name_m]Joaquin[/name_m] (this would actually work really well with [name_m]Jack[/name_m] as a nn). Other J names that might be more of a stretch but could still work are [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m] and [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m].
Maybe in the minority hear, but i just don’t get naming his [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] and calling him [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. If you like the name [name_m]Xavier[/name_m], call him [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]. I understand the [name_m]Jackson[/name_m], or even [name_m]John[/name_m] into [name_m]Jack[/name_m], but some of these names a such a stretch, it is a completely different name. The best suggestion I read if you really don’t want to just name him [name_m]Jack[/name_m] (which is my suggestion), is use [name_m]Jack[/name_m] in the middle spot and name him something else.
