My favourite girls name has been [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] for a few years. I have been thinking about starting a family more lately and was talking names with my mother and best friend.
They both HATE [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].
Any suggestions for similar feel names?
I will not automatically discount [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], but a few alternatives would be nice.
I tried to suggest other names that are vintage, feminine, and slightly offbeat, which are the qualities I see most in [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. I also put [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], along with [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] from your signature, into Nymbler and some of these are from there.
[name_f]Antonia[/name_f]
[name_f]Araminta[/name_f]
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] - Another “B-” name.
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f] - Same beginning syllable.
[name_f]Brigitte[/name_f] - Also a “B-” name, less common than [name_f]Bridget[/name_f].
[name_f]Cecile[/name_f] / [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] / [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Esme[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaux[/name_f] - The “-x” isn’t pronounced, obviously, but it makes it visually similar.
[name_f]Portia[/name_f]
[name_f]Simona[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]
Sorry for any repeats. I love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and I hope you won’t let anyone deter you from using this name. They will most likely come around.
It doesn’t matter if they hate the name you choose. It will be your child and you should use [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] if you love it. I prefer [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] to [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], but it’s a decent name.
And that is why I didn’t tell my parents that I was naming my daughter [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] until after she was born. They hated it. And now they’re fine with it, and it totally suits her. I’m glad that I chose it.
That said, I understand that sometimes others’ reactions can ruin a name for you. If you want to choose something else, I don’t blame you. [name_m]Just[/name_m] don’t share your new choice with them, since you know that they won’t hold back in making their opinions known.
