[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is one of our girl name contenders but we’re stuck when it comes to a shortening we both like.
Hubby isn’t a fan of [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] as he’s not keen on boyish names on girls, and I’m not a fan of [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] as she feels too frilly and frumpy for me. [name_f]Char[/name_f] just feels incomplete, we want something that she can go by as a short version if she wants (like our son) not just as a pet name. I know there’s nothing to stop a preference for one of the others later in life but would be nice to guide something we both like while she’s little anyway.
Am I missing something obvious as an alternative?

You’ve got some great suggestions here!
[name_f]Lettie[/name_f] came to mind

[name_f]Lolly[/name_f], [name_f]Letty[/name_f], and [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] are all cute. You could also invert [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] and get [name_m]Tolly[/name_m].

Maybe seems like a stretch, but it’s got a bit of history. In their very early, childhood writing, the [name_f]Bronte[/name_f] sisters and their brother [name_m]Branwell[/name_m] wrote about themselves as being Genii, and each Genii was named after one of the children (Brani, [name_f]Emi[/name_f], [name_f]Anni[/name_f] and Charlotte’s - Tali!) It’s like [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] but with a T
Sorry, this was a lengthy explanation

Otto, Ottie, Tolly, Arlo, Lolly would be my favourite alternatives!
I’m really glad you’re being sensible about this part though - there really is nothing to stop a kid choosing the nickname you hate most which is why as a disliker of Ellie I’m banning myself from any El- names

Thanks everyone, a lot I haven’t thought of - will need to go through properly and see if OH is on board with any that I also like - [name_f]Carrie[/name_f], [name_f]Carly[/name_f] and [name_f]Callie[/name_f] are all lovely, and some of the slightly more unexpected options are cute too - [name_m]Tolly[/name_m], [name_m]Chip[/name_m] and [name_f]Cece[/name_f] jump out at me.
sunny and lili are my favorite stretchy ones!
I love [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] myself - but [name_u]Arlie[/name_u] or [name_f]Lotte[/name_f] (as in ‘Lot’) are a good midpoint between boyish and frilly frump.
I don’t think [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] needs a nickname at all. It’s pretty and easy to say on its own, and is only two syllables. If you do want her to have a nickname, what about [name_f]Lotta[/name_f] or [name_f]Lotte[/name_f] pronounced as [name_f]Lotta[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]? It sounds more mature and serious, while still sounding very much like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], and also is uncommon and unique. Another option is calling her a completely unrelated nickname if you aren’t planning on using the nickname all the time.
I adore [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
I do like [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] a lot, but I see your point.
How about [name_f]Lotta[/name_f]?
Also:
[name_f]Carrie[/name_f]
[name_f]Callie[/name_f]
[name_m]Charlo[/name_m]
[name_m]Carlo[/name_m]
[name_m]Chuckie[/name_m]
Carlie/Carly
Maybe [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] with a diferent spelling that feels more femenine? [name_f]Charlee[/name_f], [name_u]Charley[/name_u] or [name_f]Charleigh[/name_f]
[name_f]Char[/name_f]
[name_f]Lettie[/name_f]
You dont have to call her by a nn
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites would be [name_f]Lotta[/name_f], [name_f]Lotte[/name_f], Lotra, [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]
If not [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], my favorite nns for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] are [name_u]Ari[/name_u] and [name_f]Lola[/name_f]! I’ve heard of [name_f]Carly[/name_f] too - and I would think [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] could work? I don’t really say [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] with a strong O sound. Maybe Etta/Ettie or [name_f]Cici[/name_f] as a stretch, especially if you have a C middle (like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] Camille).
Good luck!
You can spell [name_f]Elora[/name_f] from [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] which is a little stretchy but works
