Alternatives to "Greta"

My husband and I are both really stuck on the name [name]Greta[/name]. Unfortunately it does not go with his last name. When I say “does not go” I mean that when you put [name]Greta[/name] with his last name it will easily sound like a phrase that people will make fun of.

I love [name]Greta[/name] because it fits most of our criteria for a name: it’s gender specific (we want to stay away from ambiguous names that can be for either a boy or girl), it’s easily pronounced and spelled, and it’s a name that most people recognize but is not super trendy or overly popular where we live

Other names we like but aren’t sold on are as follows:

  • [name]Sophie[/name] (I’m afraid this is too common, not as much as [name]Sophia[/name] but definitely on the rise quickly in our area)
  • [name]Rosalie[/name] (I prefer [name]Rosie[/name] but feel like its too cutesy as a stand alone name. For whatever reason I’m not a fan of [name]Rosa[/name] so [name]Rosalind[/name] is out)
  • [name]Margot[/name] (I love this name but my husband is not a fan)
  • [name]Lauren[/name] (family member was just given this name)
  • [name]Colette[/name] (I like it but am not sold on it)

Any name suggestions you have that are alternatives to [name]Greta[/name] or the others above are greatly appreciated!!!

To me it’s the G that really makes it - may be why you like [name]Margot[/name]? Some of these also share the Germanic vibe…some are further away…a few don’t have G…and might have the same phrase problems?
