Been finding myself drawn to [name_f]Lily[/name_f] more and more lately as a sweet, spunky name. Current pairing rolling through my mind is [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f], but mn seems to change frequently.
My only hesitation is [name_f]Lily[/name_f] seems perhaps a bit too overdone? We like names that are classic without being too popular or dated, and definitely prefer a more feminine feel. Maybe there’s something reminiscent of [name_f]Lily[/name_f] that’s not quite as popular? Any ideas?
[name_f]Lilian[/name_f] / [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] seem like the obvious options, but I don’t know whether you’re open to variations or not.
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] come to mind…maybe [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]. What about [name_f]Calla[/name_f]? There’s also [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] and [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]. Or there’s [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] which has some similar sounds to [name_f]Lily[/name_f], just a lot longer of a name. [name_f]Libby[/name_f] is also cute as a nn for [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Lisbeth[/name_f], or maybe [name_f]Sybil[/name_f].
Thank you! I do like the idea of [name_f]Calla[/name_f] but not totally sold on that name. My husband actually suggested [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] but it is a little harsh sounding to me. I want something a little softer. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Leah[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Giselle[/name_f], and [name_f]Lila[/name_f]!
I’m not necessarily opposed to variations, but I know if we go with [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], we’ll end up calling her [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nn, so may as well just stay with [name_f]Lily[/name_f].
I do love [name_f]Minna[/name_f] and [name_f]Linnet[/name_f], though! Thank you!
I adore [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], but our last name is 3-syllables and quite long, so it’s just a little too much name for us to use, unfortunately. And my name is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], so all variations are out. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is a cute thought, though!
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is sweet, but it seems a little insubstantial (I’m not sure that’s the right word) next to her sister [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]?
To me the names most comparable to [name_f]Lily[/name_f] are not just any L- name but more the feel of classic-but-spunky, femme but tailored? And the most classic and not-hippie of the floral/botanicals.
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] kind of reminds me of [name_f]Katy[/name_f]/[name_f]Katie[/name_f] for classic-spunk so I’ll throw in [name_f]Katharine[/name_f].
[name_f]Lara[/name_f] & [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] are the only L names that capture the same feel for me without the same nick as [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. I do love [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] but it doesn’t do what you’re looking for I don’t think.
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is pretty but feels a little too dainty. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_u]Rae[/name_u] instead, giving it a bit of a kick?
I was just thinking about how sweet but popular [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is the other day. I think [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] is a nice alternative; obviously similar in sound, and far prettier as far as flowers go in my opinion! It’s so much more unexpected and a bit more exotic than [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. Other flower and nature names I love are [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], [name_f]Freesia[/name_f], and [name_f]Meadow[/name_f].
The name [name_f]Lileas[/name_f] immediately came to mind (lye-LEES). Also an Li- name, two syllables, that same [name_u]LEE[/name_u] sound, far less common, equally beautiful.
I like previous suggestion of [name_f]Calla[/name_f] an [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. And I thought of [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] immediately, which is also suggested.
Most of my thoughts have been mentioned already, but I’d add [name_f]Sanne[/name_f]/[name_f]Sanna[/name_f], the Dutch/Scandinavian diminutives of [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]. Not as familiar as [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] (depending on where you live), but sweet, easy to spell (if you choose [name_f]Sanna[/name_f] rather than [name_f]Sanne[/name_f]), and it means lily.
Other suggestions:
Delphine
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] (depending on where you live, this could be more popular than Lily)
[name_f]Iona[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]
