We are expecting our first child, a boy. I would love to honor my grandfather [name_m]Richard[/name_m] by giving my son a middle name similar or connected to [name_m]Richard[/name_m]. [name_f]My[/name_f] dilemma is the first name we likely will go with also has a double r sound and is harsh in combination with [name_m]Richard[/name_m]. Are there any ways to honor my grandfather without giving my child a mouthful of r’s when he says his name?
Maybe [name_u]Ricky[/name_u], [name_m]Rick[/name_m] or [name_m]Deacon[/name_m]?
[name_m]Enrique[/name_m]
[name_m]Eric[/name_m] (My fav for you)
[name_m]Rico[/name_m]
[name_m]Derek[/name_m]
You could do Alaric, Cedric, Frederick, Patrick or Hendrix?
Maybe [name_m]Hardy[/name_m]? [name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_m]Shephard[/name_m]?
Would [name_m]Ritchie[/name_m] make it sound any better?
I second [name_m]Eric[/name_m], [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] & [name_m]Rico[/name_m]! Also maybe [name_u]Rocco[/name_u]? [name_u]Maverick[/name_u]?
Supposedly [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] is a name related to [name_m]Richard[/name_m] from medieval times, that might be too much of a stretch though…?
[name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe [name_u]Reed[/name_u] or [name_u]Ridley[/name_u]?
What about something with a similar/the same meaning? [name_m]Enzo[/name_m], [name_m]Roark[/name_m], [name_m]Quade[/name_m], [name_u]Henry[/name_u], [name_u]Walter[/name_u], [name_m]Eric[/name_m], Duke…
How about [name_u]Arden[/name_u]? From RichARD
[name_m]Hardy[/name_m] came to mind
Adalhard, [name_m]Alaric[/name_m], [name_u]Ari[/name_u], [name_m]Bernard[/name_m], [name_m]Cathal[/name_m], [name_u]Henry[/name_u], [name_m]Leonard[/name_m], [name_m]Oswald[/name_m] have similar meanings
Archie is a lovely Richard honor!
Is there other aspects of your grandfather that could be used instead? A middle name. His last name? [name_m]Favorite[/name_m] color? A tie in to a hobby?
maybe [name_u]Richie[/name_u]?
What about [name_m]Rupert[/name_m]?
Last name is McNally. I nod to our Irish roots would be nice!
I love all these suggestions! A few I might save for a second child, but I think most with our first name choice is a mouthful of “Rs!”
Maybe you could use [name_m]Riordan[/name_m]? It’s an Irish boy name.
Make [name_m]Richard[/name_m] his second middle. You can still use it, but have a buffer in between the 2 r names. And people don’t really use their middle names that often, especially if they have 2.
