Alternatives to Theodore? looking for name husband will like, as well!

My husband and I found out our second baby is a little boy and are super excited about giving our daughter [name]Imogen[/name] a little brother! Trouble is, we had a ton of girl names picked out but have never been able to agree on boy names. We’ve ruled out [name]Samuel[/name] (husband’s choice) and [name]Beckett[/name] (my choice) for sure and right now [name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Theo[/name] is looking like the front-runner–it’s the one boy name I have always LOVED but my husband is not a fan at all. I think he is coming around to the name and would agree to it if we can’t come up with anything else, but I really want to explore some other options to see if 1) there is a name out there we can agree on and 2) something that I will fall in love with as much as I have [name]Theodore[/name]. My next choice after [name]Theodore[/name] would be [name]August[/name] nn [name]Gus[/name] but my husband HATES it and would never agree to it. Problem is, apart from [name]Samuel[/name], I can’t really get a feel for what boy names he likes! He was very into both [name]Elias[/name] and [name]Virgil[/name] at one point but has lost the love for them both (and I didn’t like either).

As far as middle names go, my husband wants to use [name]Valentine[/name] (a family name on his side) and I want to use [name]Arthur[/name] (a family name on both sides of the family). Any opinions there would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much in advance for any ideas you can give!

Ooh, a brother for [name]Imogen[/name]! Are you guys [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Beckett[/name] fans by any chance, or were those two choices purely coincidental? If you are fans I think [name]Molloy[/name] or [name]Malone[/name] would be cute with [name]Imogen[/name].

[name]Theodore[/name] is lovely, and [name]August[/name] is handsome, but if husband isn’t fully on board I agree that you should try and find something new.
I definitely prefer [name]Arthur[/name] in the middle spot (or as a first name). [name]Valentine[/name] is awfully frilly.

[name]Alfred[/name]
[name]Aurelian[/name]
[name]Christopher[/name]
[name]Clement[/name]
[name]Darius[/name]
[name]Edmund[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Julian[/name]
[name]Lawrence[/name]
[name]Leander[/name]
[name]Leopold[/name]
[name]Rafferty[/name]
[name]Samson[/name]

You could try going for [name]Theon[/name]. It’s still a classic name with the nickname [name]Theo[/name] and he might like it more.

Otherwise, maybe:

[name]William[/name]
[name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Geoffrey[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Lewis[/name]

I would also suggest that you could use [name]Arthur[/name] as a first name and [name]Valentine[/name] as the middle. [name]Arthur[/name] is a cool and classic name with kingly ties and family significance to both of you. It has a similar feel to [name]Theodore[/name]. [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Arthur[/name] sound great together and [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Valentine[/name] is just a very nice mix of classic and spunky.

If that won’t work, why don’t you use both and do 2 middles?

Well now that [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Beckett[/name] is off the table…

Firstly: [name]Arthur[/name] is beautiful and strong, but I would just DIE if my husband wanted to use [name]Valentine[/name] for a boy. I might not go through with it in the end, but I’d fall over with pleasure. Any interest in [name]Valentin[/name]? (“teen”)
Secondly: [name]Imogen[/name] rocks.
[name]Elias[/name], [name]Virgil[/name], [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Valentin[/name], [name]August/name, [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Samuel[/name], [name]Imogen[/name] - all saints. [name]How[/name] about:

[name]Feodor[/name]
[name]Barnabas[/name]
[name]Basil[/name]
[name]Lucian[/name]
[name]Quentin[/name]
Emeric
[name]Ephraem[/name]
[name]Otto[/name]
[name]Caspar[/name]
[name]Ambrose[/name]
Spyridon (thought I’d throw a wild one in there)

[name]Arthur[/name] [name]Valentine[/name] is a great combo, why not use that? Then you both get to use the family name that you want to use. Otherwise [name]Maxwell[/name] seems like it may be a name you both may like.

I’ll suggest

[name]Vincent[/name] [name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Stuart[/name] [name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Charles[/name] [name]Valentine[/name]
[name]Nicholas[/name]
[name]Steven[/name]
[name]Linus[/name]
[name]Gregory[/name]
[name]Victor[/name]
[name]Anton[/name]

Looks like we have a similar taste in names…[name]Beckett[/name] was our boy name last time and we’ve considered [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Arthur[/name] and [name]August[/name]. [name]August[/name] is a front runner right now if we have a boy. Maybe you’d like some of the other names we’ve considered:
[name]Augustus[/name]/in
[name]Magnus[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Atticus[/name]
[name]Leopold[/name]
[name]Mathias[/name]
[name]Linus[/name]
[name]Brigham[/name]
[name]Thaddeus[/name]
[name]Silas[/name]
[name]Hawthorne[/name]
[name]Jude[/name]
[name]Rexford[/name]
[name]North[/name]
[name]Angus[/name]

Have you considered [name]Burton[/name]? (Kind of country and also a cool brand for winter sports.)

We have an [name]Imogen[/name] too and her little brother will have the middle name [name]Theodore[/name] when he arrives in [name]May[/name]. DH wasn’t sold on [name]Theodore[/name] or even just [name]Theo[/name] as a first name at all, so we have compromised for the middle spot and it’s looking like [name]Finlay[/name] will be his first name (although it took a [name]LONG[/name] time to get there and a lot of support from the berries!)
Lots of other names we considered have already been suggested, but here is what our list looked like a month or so ago:
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Rafferty[/name]
[name]Ambrose[/name]
[name]Archer[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Tobin[/name]
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]

All the best! I had real trouble finding a boy name I loved as much as [name]Imogen[/name] - she was so easy to name in comparison!
