It’s probably just me being silly but I get a disappointed seeing the name [name]Elizabeth[/name] constantly used in the middle name position. Having a daughter named [name]Elizabeth[/name] does make me bias but I’m wondering if anyone else feels disappointed they see it used as a middle name all the time?
I know that I do. I think that so many people are trying to give their kids names with kr8tiff spellings or obscure (sometimes made up) names trying to shun what many of us might identify as “normal” (each to his/her own I suppose). [name]Elizabeth[/name] is a beautiful, regal name that has stood the test of time. It was on my short list of names for my first daughter, but my last name is ridiculously long and neither my wife nor I wanted to give our kids long names with an even longer last name. I also despise using nicknames on kids especially on a name as good as [name]Elizabeth[/name]. But I, too, am biased.
I have [name]Elizabeth[/name] on my list. It is actually uncommon where I live and to me it feels elegant and stands out in a very positive way. I don’t think we would put it in the middle spot because I prefer quirky and unusual names for the first middle name and family names for the second middle name. Honestly, I don’t mind that people use [name]Elizabeth[/name] as a middle name because I would prefer if it remained uncommon where I live as a first name.
Hmm, maybe it varies a lot by location, but I see [name]Elizabeth[/name] constantly in the first name spot lately! When I was teaching last year I had 4 little Elizabeths in my classes ranging in age from 4–8, certainly not as many as Isabellas, but still, many! 2 went by [name]Ellie[/name] and 2 were always [name]Elizabeth[/name].
It does land in the middle spot a lot too, but I always sort of attribute classics in the middle spot to the fact that theyve been popular for so long that theyre probably family names for a lot of people. It doesnt strike me as “filler” because its a name with so much history/weight behind it.
As the very happy and proud momma to a 15 month old [name]Elizabeth[/name] I must say that it doesn’t disappoint me because the very beautiful name is already so popular and I do not want my little [name]Elizabeth[/name] to be one of 5 in her class. The fact is that the name is so beautiful and so versatile that it works just as well in the middle name slot. It is often used to anchor a less than sturdy first name and it seems to go with just about any name out there.
It is an absolutely stunning name… strong, elegant, versatile nn’s, feminine, beautiful, glamourous, historical, classic ect… It is name perfection. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] and I am so happy that we chose her for our beautiful little lady.
I have it on my list as a first name! I think it’s a beautiful name with history, amazing namesakes and a wide variety of nn if you are into that. I actually like the [name]Elisabeth[/name] spelling. It’s a name I feel people overlook as a first name option.
I do see [name]Elizabeth[/name] in the mn spot too often. However, I am not disappointed, I am just not surprised by it anymore.
[name]Don[/name]'t get me wrong I don’t want the name to be used all the time, I just feel like it’s ‘wasted’ in the middle name spot a lot. Maybe because it’s not a popular name here (there were only 2 [name]Elizabeth[/name]'s born in our state the year she was born) I feel disappointed that it’s being regularly used as a MN but if I was popular I would probably be disappointed that my daughter would be ‘another’ [name]Elizabeth[/name].
Once an elderly lady was talking with me in the shops and said “What’s her name dear? I bet it’s something I’ve never heard before.” I laughed and said “Actually it’s [name]Elizabeth[/name].” She seemed shocked and then told me that her name is [name]Elizabeth[/name]! We ended up talking for about 10 minutes. She told me she hadn’t met an [name]Elizabeth[/name] under that age to 25 for a very long time and she was glad to see it in use again.
[name]Elisabeth[/name] is on my list as a middle name. It’s too common for my tastes as a first name, but it’s my [name]MIL[/name]'s name and it works well in the middle for a short first name and 3 syllable last name like ours.
My middle is [name]Elizabeth[/name], and I often wish my parents had put it up front. What’s worse is that they didn’t even use it when I was in trouble as a kid - I never got to hear the full thing! It was always [name]Tara[/name] [name]Beth[/name]. Sigh.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] is my mom and grandma’s middle name, and they go by [name]Lizzie[/name] and [name]Betsy[/name]. So yes, in the middle spot, but making use of it all the same.
I am guilty of having [name]Elisabeth[/name] as a middle, but I’ve recently been very attracted to it as a first, but I know two Elizabeths, and am close with both, so that kind of puts me off. I would call her [name]Libby[/name] occasionally. So We will keep it in the middle. If this baby is a girl, she will be [name]Claire[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] after my husband’s Grandma [name]Betty[/name] [name]Lou[/name] who passed away from cancer and he was extremely close to her. I never got to meet her unfortunately. I think it’s great for a first name though for sure!
i think the reason it’s used as a middle name a lot is because it was so popular, it is quite often a family name. However I do think it’s a great name, in either the first or middle spot.
