The majority of the names in my signature receive primarily sweet and positive comments but when it comes to [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] - well, the feedbacks are mixed. I never really considered [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] as a name until a cozy winter evening when I was playing [name_m]Sims[/name_m] [do not judge but isn’t it a fun way to play with names? :)] and I needed a cute name for a baby girl and my mother instantly suggested [name_m]Lemon[/name_m]. At first, I laughed but then I fell in love with it. Also, I know there was a TV show in which one of the characters was [name_m]Lemon[/name_m].
What do you think about [name_m]Lemon[/name_m]? Is it wearable? Personally, I love it - I think it’s such a unique, quirky, bright and fresh name for a sweet and playful little girl!
I would appreciate your honest opinions! Thank you so much!
I’m not a fan of [name_m]Lemon[/name_m], it’s on the same level as [name_f]Apple[/name_f] or [name_f]Peach[/name_f] for me, cute as nicknames or as names for pets but I think the majority of people would not appreciate being named [name_m]Lemon[/name_m].
There are fruit names, such as [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], that have a long history of usage and are not actually derived from the fruit name but rather are a variation of a proper name (in this case [name_m]Clement[/name_m], the [name_m]French[/name_m] form of [name_m]Clemens[/name_m]) and I think that these, while bordering on “odd” for many people, can work really well; however, just as much as a child names Pear, Melon or [name_f]Strawberry[/name_f] would be strange to me, [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] would, too.
[name_m]Lemon[/name_m] has a lot of negative connotations, both the two listed above and also the “sour lemon” association. I don’t really consider it a name at all, and personally, I wouldn’t want to be named [name_m]Lemon[/name_m]. I would never use it, but if you really love it maybe consider it in the middle.
I see the appeal, but I think it would probably be better as a middle name! I think the opportunities for kids to tease them with their name would be pleantiful, and I think they would grow up to dislike their name if teased mercilessly.
I prefer [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] as a nickname for something like [name_f]Clemence[/name_f] or [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]. That being said, I do think that [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is adorable in a GP sort of way.
I can see the appeal (a peel…heehee) of [name_m]Lemon[/name_m], but I agree, there are negative connotations.
What stood out to me about what you said was that it would be a cute name for a little girl. What about when she’s a teenager, applying for her first job, or an adult, introducing herself at a party? I think [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] would be difficult for most women to pull off. Some names are definitely cute, but don’t age well. I think [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] fits that category.
If you [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Lemon[/name_m], I’d recommend [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], nickname [name_m]Lemon[/name_m]. The “lemon” sound is right in the middle, and what a citrus-y, summery name!
I think it’s darling. It’s not all that different from [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] and - being a fan of Middle English - I connect it with “lemman,” meaning love or sweetheart. I do think it would be better suited to the middle spot if only for the bad associations, however.
Agreed with pps that bc [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] is slang for a ‘bad/broken thing’ it wouldn’t make a good name.
I’m all for unique fresh names, but as soon as she as old enough to realize what her name could mean… PPs idea that ‘[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]’ could be used and maybe as a nn with close family she could be willingly called [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] is a great idea. That way if she decided there were too many negative connotations she could go by her full name.
I understand your situation, as a name that I thought sounded cool at first was Tsunami. But in reality it’s a terrible storm that destroys homes and would be a bad connection to have. A better alt for me is [name_f]Naomi[/name_f].
I see the appeal, but I think it’s more fitted for the middle spot. As a first name it’s a little too out there, and I think as a teenager/young adult you would need a certain amount of confidence to be cool with that name. I know I wouldn’t have liked it as a shy 14 year old. Is the tv character you think of [name_f]Liz[/name_f] [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] from 30 [name_m]Rock[/name_m]? I love the character, but it’s her last name, not first name It’d be super cute in the middle spot though, [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] would be nice, and you could still use [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] as a pet name!
I can see the appeal but I would personally steer clear of a name with so many negative associations (lemon party, defective item, erotic fanfiction).
The nickname [name_m]Lem[/name_m] is cute and I even think [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] would be an okay middle name. Ultimately your choice but it’s good to know what associations your kid might have when people see/hear their name.
All I could think about it is that it is a “code name” for smutt/erotic fanfiction. Older generations may not know this, but younger generations know what it means and I can not even imagine the teasing. I would not use it even as a middle.
I wouldn’t use [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] as a name, sorry. The associations of an unpleasant person or something defective aren’t something a person would want their name to have. I like a lot of fruit names, even more unusual ones- I’d be excited to meet a [name_f]Plum[/name_f] or an [name_f]Apple[/name_f]- but lemons are a fruit a lot of people don’t like and considered unpleasantly sour, not something completely positive.
Lemons are my one of my favorite things. [name_u]Ever[/name_u]. I love them. [name_m]Even[/name_m] as a lemon fantatic I would urge you to reconsider. If you wanted to use it as a nickname, it would seem more appropriate. Unless you’re a celebrity or fabulously wealthy, I’d try to consider how [name_m]Lemon[/name_m] would be viewed on a resume or college application.
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is one way to get to the nickname, yes. [name_f]Willemina[/name_f] is another.
